Usually very happy with Samsung products

My home is well stocked with Samsung products and I am usually predisposed toward buying this brand. This washer purchase was necessitated because the exact same model I purchased 3 years ago irreparably stopped working. I had to buy this model because I have it stacked on a Samsung Dryer and they tell me that you cannot stack competitive brands.Hopefully, this one will last at least 5 years. Something tells me that I should have bought the extended warranty. Why do we pay 3 times as much as we used to for appliances that last half as long?
