Fast Pace ... Fun to Watch

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I ordered this movie, but I'm both a Sci-fi fan AND a Spielberg fan, so I figured I'd probably like it. Turns out, I loved it! Visuals are fantastic and the action is well paced, not to mention a great storyline. I watched it in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Technically, it's a well-executed film and is sure to please any sci-fi fan.

Love these towers

I bought these to replace my 18-year-old Boston Acoustics towers. They served me well, but it was time for something new. Plus, I wanted to add Dolby Atmos to my system. A friend of mine had just purchased a pair of Definitive Technology BP-9060 towers and I had a chance to hear them. Wow. The highs are crisp and the bass is deep ... I wanted a pair of them for myself. However, when the time came to make a decision, I chose to go with the larger front speaker set, the BP-9080 (and the companion SR-9080 center channel), due to the size of my entertainment room. Although I mostly use them when watching movies, they're very capable music speakers as well. In fact, I'm now listening to music more often because they sound so good. To put it simply, the sound is amazing from these speakers.
A few thoughts: First, these towers are big ... very big. Consider that they really need to be placed away from the wall to achieve the best sound. (That's a primary reason my friend chose the slightly smaller BP-9060s.) My understanding is that the recommended minimum is 4-inches from the wall, although I have mine about 12-inches away.
Another thing that I was surprised to learn is that, unlike many other speakers, these don't come as LEFT/RIGHT pairs, there's only one layout available. That means that the subwoofer on the right tower will face inward toward your TV, and the subwoofer on the left tower will face outward. Of course, they're subs, so the direction that they're facing doesn't matter quite as much. Still, it seemed a bit odd to me, especially coming from a matched pair of Boston Acoustics where there was clearly a Left speaker and a Right speaker.
As for Dolby Atmos, the BP-9080 has the up-firing Atmos speakers built-in to the top of the tower. This differs from the other tower models in the 9000 series, which require an add-on module to make them Atmos capable. Unfortunately, I can't yet review the effectiveness of Atmos since I have yet to upgrade my receiver to one that supports it. However, even then, my understanding is that these up-firing Atmos solutions don't quite work as well with cathedral ceilings (which I have), so I'm not sure what to expect.
As for the bass, the 12" powered subwoofer in the 9080 certainly delivers a crisp, deep sound. There's no doubt in my mind that in most rooms, that will more be more than sufficient. However, in part due to the size of my particular entertainment room, and also due to the fact that it's somewhat of an open-concept layout (resulting in about 6000 cubic feet of space to fill), I felt I needed to supplement the 9080s to achieve the pounding, cannon-like bass I was seeking. To that end, I purchased a separate pair of stand-alone subwoofers, which perfectly compliment the 9080's.
Overall, I can't say enough good things about the BP-9080 tower speakers. If you've got the space, they're definitely worth it.

Fun Movie for "Despicable" Fans
on May 6, 2018

Verified Purchase:Yes
I've loved the previous Despicable Me (and Minion) movies, and although I think the franchise might be starting to wear a little thin, I did enjoy this movie.
OK, now the "disclosure": Admittedly, other than me being a Despicable fan, there were two other driving forces that led me to purchase this Blu-ray. First, it was on sale at the time (always a good thing). More importantly though, I had just purchased a new Dolby-Vision capable 4K Blu-ray player, and wanted to try a movie that was DV encoded (which this is). My TV already supported DV, but I had never been able to use that feature before this. That's not to say that I wouldn't have picked this movie up eventually anyway, it's a great movie. Perhaps I just got it sooner than I might have otherwise. So, for those with Dolby Vision systems, I think you'll appreciate the image quality ... it's phenomenal. For everyone though, this is still a movie worth watching, especially if you're a Despicable fan.

Great Player - Especially for Dolby Vision
on May 6, 2018

Verified Purchase:Yes
When I acquired my first Dolby-Vision capable 4K TV, there weren't a lot of options in terms of Dolby Vision Blu-Ray players. Those few that were available were either very expensive, had known "issues", and/or they weren't actually going to support DV until a future firmware update would be released. I wound up purchasing the Sony UPB-X800, which is an excellent 4K Blu-ray player, but doesn't support DV. (I knew that at the time, so it wasn't a surprise.) The X800 has served me well (and will continue to do so in another room), but when the UBK-90 became available, I decided to take a chance on it .. and I'm glad I did. Admittedly, I've had it for only a short while, but so far, it has flawlessly played every disc I've tried in it. (I have a combination of regular Blu-ray discs, 4K discs, and 3D discs as well.) It's quiet, quick-loading, has a solid build feel to it, and yes, it supports Dolby Vision right out of the box. My AV receiver supports DV pass-through, so I'm using only one of the UBK 90's two HDMI outs. However, the other HDMI out can be used in case you need to send the video directly to your TV, and the audio directly to the receiver.
My first test of course was with a movie that's encoded for Dolby Vision. I chose "Despicable Me 3". The moment I started playing it, the words "Dolby Vision" appeared on my TV, indicating the mode I was now in. The picture quality was fantastic, and I had no problems with playback or navigation. The unit itself is very (almost totally) quiet, and disc loading is relatively quick.
I've given this player 5-stars because it's everything I want in a player, but there are a couple of things that some folks may not like.
First, there is no front-panel display ... only a few buttons, a USB port, and a power indicator light (plus the disc tray, of course). I personally don't care one way or another about the lack of a display, so I'm fine with that. My TV is my display.
The only other thing that some may not like is the lack of apps. Currently, only Netflix and YouTube are supported ... nothing else. That's not to say more won't ever be coming, but that's all there is at the moment. Here again, I don't mind because my TV already supports all of the streaming services I care about, and there are plenty of third-party media streamers on the market, so it's not a big deal for me.
With the UBK-90, It seems that LG has addressed the issues that were (reportedly) plaguing one of their earlier models. Overall, I think they've made a fine 4K Blu-ray player

OK, but still not 'Marvel'

Admittedly, I'm not as much of a DC fan as I am a Marvel fan, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Individually, I like the superheroes, but for me, I just don't get the same level of excitement with the Justice League as I do with the Avengers. In some ways, I think DC is trying to be too much like Marvel, and in some ways, it just doesn't work. I've given this movie four stars because it *is* entertaining, it's just not at the same level as Marvel.

Makes the difference

This was part of an upgrade to my audio system. Although my front speaker towers have built-in subwoofers, the room is rather large with a high ceiling and it's partially open to another room on one side. Adding the SB13 Ultra made a huge difference, providing the "punch" that the tower subs weren't always giving, and also delivering lows that I hadn't heard before. The SB13 is the "sealed" version (SVS also offers a ported version). The piano-black unit is beautiful, although it *is* big ... make sure you have the room for it. Setup is easy, and the display panel on the back provides many options for customizing the sound. (I'm still using the default settings, and it sounds great.)
One note though. The SB13 Ultra has a lot of power, but if your listening space is extra large (or open) like mine, you may want a bit more in order to fill the entire area. I considered returning the SB13 and purchasing the larger SB16, but after consulting with the Magnolia rep and doing a bit of online research, I decided instead to purchase a second SB13, to go in an opposite corner. (Many audio "experts" advise that two smaller subwoofers are often a better solution than one larger one.) Regardless, I love the SB13 Ultra.

As good as the original - perhaps better

I'm always skeptical about any reboot of a film, but this one certainly doesn't disappoint. Although it takes a slightly different approach, it's just as entertaining as the original, and for me, perhaps a bit more so. Great cast, fun movie.

A few improvements over the original K95 RGB
on June 25, 2017
Posted by: TTNH
Verified Purchase:Yes
As the review summary suggests, I purchased this keyboard to replace a (still working) K95 RGB keyboard which I've since passed along to my nephew. My primary reason for the change was that I've decided that I prefer the Cherry MX Brown switches, as opposed to the Red switches on my old K95 keyboard. For me, the "browns" seem better for general-purpose use, but are still good for gaming. (My nephew is a hard-core gamer and prefers the red switches.)
Other than the switches, the K95 Platinum offers a few (arguably minor) improvements, Perhaps the biggest change is that you can now store up to three profiles on-board, using the keyboards own internal 8Mb memory. These are referred to as "Hardware Profiles" and although they can't store as many effects as the software profiles, they're able to run even without having the Corsair CUE software running. This could be a benefit on slower PCs which may be more sensitive to CUE's CPU overhead.
Other Platinum changes include a USB (2.0) pass-through port, a "LightEdge" (a multi-zone LED strip across the top of the keyboard), and slightly larger key fonts. Although (as of this writing), the product description (on BestBuy.com) claims that this keyboard has 18 programmable G-Keys, it does not. The K95 Platinum features only 6 programmable G-Keys (which is probably still fine for most folks). As a result, the Platinum model is a bit smaller than its predecessor.
The CUE software, despite being recently updated, still has a bit of a learning curve, but it gives you the freedom to create unique lighting profiles. One thing worth noting ... in order to operate, this keyboard must be plugged into either one USB 3.0 port OR into two USB 2.0 ports. (The keyboard's cable splits into two USB connectors.) Furthermore, if you intend to use the USB pass-through port, you'll need to have both of the keyboard's connectors plugged in, so ultimately you won't be gaining an extra USB port.
Overall though this keyboard is very well built and is a pleasure to type on. I'm guessing that most folks that already own the original K95 RGB won't have a compelling reason for purchasing the Platinum version. For first-time buyers however, and those that are interested in the few improvements, this keyboard is certainly worth your consideration.

Incredible Picture with Dolby Vision and 3D
on June 3, 2017
Posted by: TTNH
Verified Purchase:Yes
I wasn't intending to replace either of my two TVs this year, but I'm a big 3D fan and have a large Blu-ray 3D collection. Pretty much all TV manufacturers have stopped making 3D sets, so I figured I'd better get one of the remaining 2016 models before there are none to be had. Since my main-room TV is still going strong, I decided to replace my smaller bedroom set, which was on its last legs. I couldn't be happier with the decision to purchase the 55" E6P.
As others have commented, the picture is stunning ... deep blacks and rich colors. I'm aware that OLED sets are not always as bright as LED sets, but I'm totally impressed with the brightness of the E6P. I haven't yet calibrated the set, but I'm in no rush as the out-of-the-box settings are fine for me.
At the time I purchased this, the E7P was also available, which I hear improves upon the picture quality and HDR reproduction. However, as I said, my goal was to get a 3D set, and the E7P doesn't support 3D, so it wasn't an option. The passive 3D on the E6P is incredible ... I actually prefer it to the Active 3D on my larger, main room TV. Dolby Vision is another feature that I'm impressed with. Currently, my only DV content is through the TV's VUDU application, but it's none-the-less impressive.
The only (minor) disappointment with this set is that it doesn't support Dolby Atmos via ARC. Even though my sound system supports Dolby Atmos, the E6 will only send a standard Dolby Digital back to the receiver. Therefore, I can't enjoy Dolby Atmos when streaming a movie from one of the on-board applications, even if the movie supports it. (I understand that the E7 corrects this.)
So, if 3D is important to you, then the E6 is an excellent choice. If you can live without 3D (which many folks can), then you should probably look at the E7. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Great Movie. A Bit Underrated
on May 30, 2017

Perhaps it's because I had read a few negative reviews that I had low expectations for this movie, but in the end I really enjoyed it . Yes, the effects are great, but I also think it has a compelling story. It's certainly worth the watch. As a bonus, this particular Blu-Ray comes with both the 3D version and the 4K version. I have a 3D capable / 4K HDR set. I've already watched the 3D version (great for 3D lovers). I'll be watching it again in 4K, just to see the difference.
