Great, but not ready yet

The best possible smart home choice out there is the Smartthings device, period. Yes, there are many others. Problem is that it isn't as easy as it should be (can be) and many features of the interface are not matching. A choice in one place may not be in another, etc.

I back up my 'best' comment though because of the number of devices, the ease of setup, and the fact that just about everything can work with it. Things are made to work with Smartthings for a reason. It is simply the strongest existing platform. Nest has arbitrary limitations, and only a few devices, and parts of Nest are even compatible. The only platform not compatible is Apple, and they are never compatible with anyone else anyway.

Works great and quickly

Plug it in and it works. One big drive to store stuff on. I am using it as a USB 2.0 drive and it took quite a while for me to copy my 2.1tb to it as a backup but once there, and using software that only copies changed files, it is a gem.
