Excellent color and images on the right paper.

This printer has a small footprint for a full-color Laser Printer, and offers EXCELLENT image quality for presentation papers, etc. The colors reproduced are a bit deep, but with calibration could be really professional grade. Print speeds were fast unless images were large and full, and text quality is typical Brother-level excellent.
The toner is decent yield, but they also offer high-yield toner carts (that are pretty expensive) but work to drive even longer periods between changes.
The device is white so it might look dingy over time, as I prefer my office electronics to be dark grey or black, but otherwise this is a really nice unit with really improved quiet operation and image quality from its predecessors.

High Quality headset and wireless headphones.

The E65 headset is a conversation piece wherever I travel with it or use it out and about. I find its a very good conferencing headset, works great with all of my conferencing services - I use them all - And doubles as a great pair of wireless headphones when I'm between meetings, whether through the Link360 adapter included, or directly paired to my mobile device or iPad.
The comfort is great for all-day, and I'm large-headed, but have no trouble with its over-head band.. The boom mic is perfect and does a good job of blocking exterior noises, so much so that I use this headset for recording training programs and webinars often.
The included carrying case is also great for traveling with the headset. This is an overall winning set from Jabra - And I've used a lot of great gear from this company.

Hard setup, Mediocre Coverage, Limited Security
on October 4, 2018
Posted by: GadgetGuy1981

Let me start out by saying that this is a good modem/router combo. The best I've used. It just MIGHT still reinforce why I don't recommend to many of my friends to combine the two.
The Surfboard is very simple from an industrial design PoV - Matte, textured black plastic, in the vein of cable modems past... As a cool security router, perhaps Arris could have dressed this up a bit? Still OK though - Utilitarian as it may be.
Physical setup is a breeze. Putting the two devices together frees up space on the desk, and eliminates a few plugs for subsequent switches and routers that I'd otherwise need. But TECHNICAL SETUP... Where do I begin...?
Spectrum is my ISP - They didn't seem to have any trouble adding this modem to my account and "provisioning" it, but the call itself was over an hour and a half, since the model simply wouldn't take commands from them, and they don't offer much support for "owned modems". I suspect what happened was that upon connecting to their network the modem pulled down a firmware update that slowed things down until it was fully installed and bug-free. After 90 minutes, we're off to the races.
One of the things I was looking forward to, as a corporate McAfee customer, and having reviewed other "security integrated" competitors, was finally having the security provider in sync with my corporate software, which was a bit of a conflict in my last setup... The McAfee capabilities of this router were disappointing to say the least. The software forces YOU to figure out which devices are which as they connect,.its ONLY available to be remotely configured via mobile app, but it doesn't all work until your other configuration work on the router is complete, The router setup, to set a custom DHCP range, configure my own DNS, and other basic secure home networking wants, took well over an hour, and no wizard was offered that would help me do this completely.
I also like to mix my 2.4 and 5GHz networks, so that my devices capable of 5GHz can use it when its best... This is the FIRST modem with a GUI option to do just that. It was fantastic. It was the only intuitive thing about it.
The McAfee software/Mobile App gives you very little information on how it's identified many of the devices on your network - You need to check everything to see what IP its getting to properly identify and classify things to associate them with specific users, parentally control things, etc.
Also - Where competitors offer parental controls and included subscriptions to software, our friends and McAfee simply offer their home management tool for free to work with the router. All other McAfee software will be full price, and parental controls are separate from their Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware offering - So if you're expecting an all-in, at least one year free offering like you get from Norton's similar offering, forget about it.
Once I got everything tagged and named, I installed my ISP-offered McAfee software on all of the devices that take it, and other devices (like my video doorbell) continue to flag as security risks because "McAfee isn't installed"... Ha! Sorry I can't install MAV on my doorbell... Others do much better at "ignoring" the AV install status of IoT devices that obviously can't support it.
On to the modem and wireless performance. Eliminating the middleman of a separate router, my performance is great. I do have some issues with certain protocols, such as XBOX streaming, etc. but thats an issue with QoS I need to resolve. Coverage is good, but other single-WiFi-Router solutions have covered our home better. Mesh solutions would fare even better, but I'd love to see Arris come out with a Mesh adapter for this, to extend the network in the home without going to traditional bandwidth-robbing extenders (and using a backband, like Mesh networks do!).
All in all, a mediocre experience with a seemingly premium product. I expected more and left the experience disappointed.

Excellent quality, questionable industrial design
on October 4, 2018
Posted by: GadgetGuy1981

Let's start this with the positives. These headphones sound great. They feel extremely well-constructed. They had better Wireless quality than anything I'd ever used (probably helped that they were the "Codex" edition, supporting APT-X, as well as several other high-end Bluetooth codecs/formats that many wireless headphones don't...
But its 2018... I understand the "loud" industrial design is V-Moda's "thing" but with quality like this, and support for their product that is this good, including replacement parts, and customizable caps, etc, couldn't they also make a more subtle product that doesn't look like it belongs in 2005? I get that there are a certain kind of user who wants loud, bright-white, shield-shaped/gaudy cans on their head, but for those who don't, V-Moda's quality, support, and capability are a non-starter... Otherwise these things would be THE GOLD STANDARD. I am still almost incapable of listening to my other over-ear headphones now - Even my wired ones, with these delivering superior wired and wireless quality.
Another thing. Its NOT OK that these still charge with USB Type B (Micro) - Type C should have been the standard for over a year now and still SO MANY new products haven't adopted. Micro-B was a terrible, scratchy, one-way cable that Type C kills in the usefulness department, let alone charging speed. In this price range it should be the standard across all device types.

Puts the “Smart” into your media consumption.

The UBD-M9700 isn’t for those who just need to play HD discs on their home TV or theatre, it’s for those who want an all-in-one smart set top box with the added ability to spin up BluRay discs and output 4K HDR video in a very elegant package.
The build quality is typical excellent Samsung. The front curve of the device meant to contour nicely to their curved displays. This thing isn’t meant for cabinet duty - It longs to be out on display with the screen... Front and center.
Inside the software isn’t Roku or Amazon FireTV as we see with more affordable options today, but rather Samsung’s own take on Smart TV with their own apps for major streaming and rental platforms, such as NetFlix, Hulu, etc. I use YoutubeTV which was conspicuously absent, but with Samsung not hooking up with a partner like a Google or Rocky for software help, these issues will persist... Cord cutters beware that your all-in-one smart solution may not include an “app” for your chosen IPTV service. I’d love to see more from the App Store on devices like this to make them competitive with AndroidTV, etc, particularly if this is to replace all of my other connected TV devices. Built-in ChromeCast support would be a welcome addition too.
Blue Ray playback was great on this, and HDR was exactly as expected on my only HDR capable TV. I did not get a chance to evaluate 3D playback.
The included remote is small, yet elegant, and I enjoyed the quiet “clickiness” to it. Being small I can see it easily lost and wouldn’t have hated to see a controller with more heft in the box.
If you don’t already have a BD solution, or you’re wanting to make all personal entertainment happen with one HDMI input, this is a solid choice. If your needs are more diverse than the Samsung partnerships included, perhaps look elsewhere, but you’re giving up the truly all-in-one advantage of a product like this, which is almost very well executed.

Very good basic cleaner, but PRO should be all-in.
on August 2, 2018
Posted by: GadgetGuy1981
from Lebanon, OH
I have owned other RugDoctor cleaners prior to evaluating this one, so my expectations when getting the PRO device were a bit elevated.
I have the Rug Doctor Deep Cleaner and expected this Pro model to be an upgrade to that. They have fixed many of the flaws in the older cleaner with this one:
- The push handle is no longer flimsy on this model, and the device itself glides more smoothly on carpet during cleaning.... The other would fight you when moving certain ways and this new handle is much more confidence inspiring.
- The Pro has extremely large clean and dirty water tanks, meaning you can now clean most small or medium rooms without water changes during the process. I’d say this is about twice the capacity of the deep cleaner.
Those advantages aside, there were a few things I noticed that made me scratch my head a little...
- The Pro doesn’t have rotary brushes, just a passive stationary scrubber behind the main suction nozzle. Doesn’t seem that it would agitate the same way that active rotary brushes would. I didn’t notice a huge difference on my carpets, but high pile carpet in need of more scrubbing to restore texture or loosen dirt might not get the same level of clean from this new unit.
- I was blown away that this newer, more expensive cleaner doesn’t include the furniture/stairs handheld attachment. I learned that the system can use the one from my Deep Clean model, but it still has no way to store it on itself, and for most users, will be an extra purchase.
At the end of the day, I liked navigating the carpets I cleaned with the new device substantially better. For those without furniture/stair cleaning requirements, this will be a really good alternative to other upright cleaners... For those looking for a whole-home upright to clean some floors, this will do the job with ease.

Good audio quality in a fun retro package
on August 2, 2018
Posted by: GadgetGuy1981
from Lebanon, OH
These are fun. The orange foam pads and silver headband design are very retro-cool. The audio quality was great for the price range, and battery life was also impressive for something so affordable.
I had the advantage of getting the rewinds right as I was working on some work projects that would have me in need of some music headphones for a few days. After unboxing and figuring out quickly where the hidden charging port was (just tilt the headphone earpiece to reveal a micro-USB port!) I gave these an overnight pre- charge and went on my way.
They lasted a good portion of a work day, with on-and-off use of approximately 5 total hours. Sometimes I left them on in standby wth the music paused or stopped, but this is a typical real-world use scenario, rather than some stated manufacturer number.
The audio quality really impressed me in this price segment, as they had good, well-rounded sound and decent clarity for affordable stereo phones... Were not in BOSE or SHURE territory here, but we were surprisingly close to the kind of quality I get from other Bluetooth headphones that aren’t noise canceling or isolated. These sounded every bit their price point, but also had a certain retro factor to this, as they reminded me in that way of 30 year old corded Walkman headbands.
When I wasn’t wanting to look like Marty Mc Fly brought me these back from a quick DeLorean jaunt from 1985, the included black foams bring the design back to a reasonable, understated-ness that most customers who aren’t being ironic will prefer. The soft foams made these all-day comfortable, and with their simple layout and thin, light build, these could easily become your “beater” pair of travel or commute headphones, as they easily fit into a small bag and don’t carry the risk of loss or damage that extremely more expensive headphones do in the $250+ range from Sony, Bose, or Beats...
All in all I enjoyed the device, and they’re now in that stable of things I’ll travel with and loan the kids to use. Things that work well but that I can stomach parting with should something happen. I get lots of questions about them when wearing them around, and I’m sure some people who don’t notice the wire-free situation just assume I’m rocking some old favorite headphones with that iPhone, Mac, or Surface device I pair them with.

New optics, but output is still nostalgia-only.
on June 15, 2018
Posted by: GadgetGuy1981
from Lebanon, OH
I was really hopeful when getting this that someone solved for the old Polaroid conundrum of poor color and exposure quality in the final output. Polaroid pictures are a big part of my childhood - Entire events of my upbringing, family events, and photos with long lost loved ones are only captured on those little, fragile, impossible-to-scan square frames. The flat, muted colors, the so-so-focus, and the questionable longevity of an instantly-developed-and-fixed chemical process.
Well, Polaroid (or someone licensing the name now that the patents have run out) is back, baby! And... Its pretty much the same as before.
I'd been familiar with the "return-to-analog" craze going on, as my daughters longed for a competitor's instant-picture camera and film this last holiday season, and they were hard to find. This new camera, bearing the original name-brand and the design/retro-styling of the old OneTouch series from the Late 70s/Early 80s definitely puts the retro-is-cool thing to full-throttle. The camera works well, runs on an internal rechargeable battery (which is awesome and lasts 60+ days according to their website - My experience is I forgot it was rechargeable because I only had to plug it in initially in the 30 days I used it with 3 packs of film - Its still going strong!) and has excellent build quality.
The film I used is new I-Series film which produces pretty much the same muted quality of old, but offers a VERY cool Black and White option too... Interesting stuff! I had good results with the B&W "film" and those were probably the most fun to produce.
The color photos, even with the new I-Series film (this camera works with the older "600" film too!) were a time-warp to 1984 and were comparable to anything my mother snapped that year. The was cool, but as more of a digital native, it wasn't anything I couldn't produce with an Instagram filter.
The lens is rated from 2ft-infinity and the focal range was good. Sharpness SEEMS better than the old cameras, but I haven't had a direct comparison in a few decades... The grain of the film/paper is pretty significant so improved optics are better for focus than they are for richer detail.
This thing is a fun trip down memory lane and at my last few events, whipping one out made people laugh but in the end they enjoyed getting those instant photos in-hand to take with them and remember our day. There's something to be said for the old 600s... And they still have a place today in kitsch and child-like enjoyment...

Very cool idea, and well executed too!
on June 15, 2018

This thing is revolutionary.
I'm always "that guy" at family functions and events... Snapping photos away at the kids (and the older folks) trying to capture every moment. This Clips camera changes all of that.
While this is no way replaces the "staged" group photo or the quick video of a happening, Clips lets me focus on being present while the camera does an AMAZING job of detecting memory activity and capturing it as a short "clip" - You can then take images from it as well!
The real "wow" factor comes in the fact that this little device has excellent battery life, and can operate during an entire event for a few hours, and capture everything it detects as intentional, be it smiles or eye contact. The resultant clips of video or photos are clear and high quality- Seemingly as good as what I can get from my Google Pixel 2 XL camera... And I don't have to be present to capture it. At my last family gathering, it became a "photo booth" of sorts, then the kids decided to steal it and go make their own videos, which we proceeded to monitor via Chromecast from my connected phone. It was hilarious and fun.
When a device can ADD to a gathering and make it more fun, users win. This is a user-first device, not only solving a problem, but creating fun. I fully expect the competition to start coming out with these soon.

Solid set of fitness/sport headphones
on June 15, 2018
Posted by: GadgetGuy1981
from Lebanon, OH
These Sony SP600Ns are a solid fit and have very little heft, allowing for a comfortable long-workout or all-day wear when out on the trail. The eargel fit was good, the "wingtip" parts help with fit and hold while active, and the sound quality was typical Sony - Good quality, perhaps a BIT bass-heavy, but it makes the sound full so I don't mind it...
These are small, charge easily and quickly, and last well. The ANC surprised me as to how well it worked... Even sharp sounds were cancelled when usual ANC only cancels white noises and ambient sound... This was impressive.
All in all battery life was good, and use was high quality and simple. These will do well in their price range, and even against some more expensive competitors.

Turn your tablet into a laptop with this Logitech Smart Connect keyboard for iPad Pro. Skip the Bluetooth pairing, and simply set your iPad Pro in typing position to set up instant pairing with the keyboard. Backlit for easy viewing, this Logitech Smart Connect keyboard offers a full 9-inch QWERTY setup, so you can work or correspond wherever you are.

Can the keyboard be removed from the case and does logi make a replacement case. My case cracked and needs to be replaced but keyboard is still in good working order

They are only sold as a single unit. I believe if the case breaks then the entire unit needs to be replaced. Its NOT a modular or user-serviceable item.

Have Netgear N900 modem-router-wifi device. What do I have to do to connect Google Wifi network? Will Genie still provide a network map?

Disable WiFi on the Netgear. Genie will still show a map of devices including the mesh APs, but will not necessarily show them by node. The Google App however will.

I have my own "Router" firewall device that I don't want to change. Can I use the Google Wifi as simply as a smart Wifi grid behind my security device?

Yes! Simply use your router without WiFi turned on and make sure that a single Ethernet connection passes through the router on its way to the Google setup as the only connection to any wireless hotspots.

You may want to put the whole system in Bridge mode when doing it this way but in doing so you'll lose priority device mode and some of the parental controls.

Is this compatible with FiOS?

As long as the FiOS modem isn't also a wifi router, or you can disable wifi and just have the modem output via Ethernet you'll be good.

What speakers are available for my Dell desktop Optiplex 380?

Your OptiPlex 380 has both 2.5mm audio jack and USB ports so just about any standard speaker set would work and even some advanced USB speakers would if you have a free USB port.

To see if your computer can support 2.1 or 5.1 audio natively, check to see if you have blue, green, and tan audio jacks in the back. If you do, you've got enough ports to install 5.1 surround. If only 1 audio out is back there (usually green or black colored) then you'll want to get a 2-speaker or 2.1 (two speaker and integrated wired subwoofer) system.

My advice for a simple desk setup would be to get something like these Logitech sets and just run the two speakers unless you demand floor-shaking bass.

Subwoofer? Compatible Speakers

I have an older subwoofer I had with a previous computer. The speakers I have on my new one don't have a place to plug the subwoofer in. What kind of speakers should I get to be able to use this?
Only a set designed for a "2.1" or higher channels will support your sub. Most 2.1/5.1/7.1 systems will come with their own, newer subwoofer.

Connect with family and friends on this Dell Inspiron laptop computer, and clearly connect with the wide 13.3-inch screen and integrated webcam. Touchscreen capabilities provide the function of a tablet, while a full backlit keyboard lets you type all day and night. This Dell Inspiron laptop features Windows 10 Home for easy loading and running of software and apps.

Does something similar come in 15.6? Why do no Dell's have DVD/CD drives? What are my options if I need it?

There is a similar "flip hinged" 15" model available (I believe it's called the Inspiron 15 7000 Series 2-in-1, but I'm unsure of the specific model/SKU).

Most PCs are forgoing optical/CD/DVD drives in contemporary years as the demand for these drives has reduced greatly. While many desktop PCs (who have also seen a demand decline) still include them, removing them from laptops was a key element in getting these devices to be thinner/lighter, longer lasting on a single charge, etc. If you think about it, when is the last time you burned a CD or DVD and transferred files that way. With today's cloud storage and send services and with the low cost of thumb drives, home made DVDs/CDs quickly obsoleted.

As far as commercial discs, music has for a long time been more about streaming and online purchases from iTunes/Google Play/Spotify/Pandora/etc... Movies have largely gone the same way with Google Play/iTunes Movies/Netflix/Hulu.

I'm not saying that we don't all have discs we need to play/copy/install here and there, but for the most part, they aren't a primary medium anymore so the trade off for space and battery capacity drove them out of mobile devices.

You might be saying: "I don't care where the lemmings are going! I want my MTV, DVD and CD! I'm still angry about losing the tape deck in my new car!" For you my friend, I recommend one of the offered external USB DVD/Blu-Ray drives available at BestBuy which would allow you access to your optical collection without having to keep a drive attached for the 90% of the times you don't need one.

Can you download Microsoft office onto this? I want to use this for school so I need to be able to use word and PowerPoint.

You cannot install typical Microsoft Office apps on this device, as it runs ChromeOS. You can however edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files using the included Google Apps (Docs,Sheets,Slides) that are FREE apps on the Chrome Web Store and are compatible with most/all files from Office proper...

Also, Microsoft makes web-based versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint that are also in the Chrome Web Store and these would better support existing files but these have some limits to their functionality, and I believe full usage requires an active Office365 account/subscription.

I hope this helps! Sorry it's not a yes/no answer. YOU HAVE OPTIONS!

I need advice on what camera to buy her

My wife is a very fine artist I would like to buy a digital camera for her she does most of her paintingon location. She says she needs a digital camera with a zoom lens plus one that would take portraits and the best quality pictures for her work ,she speaks of a Digital SLR with at least
a 12.o pixel ? what do you recommend I buy her. I have a limited budget of between $ 750.00
and a $1000.00 dollars and I need some professional advice.

Thank you
Wm Bertsche
.
I have photographed many paintings for customers that needed a digital gallery with my Sony Alpha A33 DSLR/SLT.

14.2 megapixels, great zoom lens options, and noise reduction and light sensitivity settings that allow for accurate color capture in gallery light settings.

You're looking at 799-999 for a decent package with at least one zoom lens, but I would recommend the 18-55 kit lens with the body, and the additional 55-200 lens that Best Buy carries for longer zoom. Also, for portraits, I recommend a "brighter aperture" lens, such as the SAL50F18 50mm F1.8 portrait lens, which gives fantastic low-light performance at low ISOs, for maximum detail and clarity.

For the body and all three lenses, you're likely looking at 900-1100... Shop around, but Best Buy carries all of it and their photo guys do great bundles with warranties.

Can a 35mm film camera lens be used on a digital SLR camera

I have a Cannon EOS Rebel and would like to purchase an SLR camera. If the lenses I have for the EOS Rebel will work on a SLR I would like to purchase that camera
The Canon EOS Digital Rebels will use the EOS lenses, with few exceptions, if i recall.

The difference is, that the EOS Digital Rebel's like the XS, or XSi, have smaller APS-sized sensors, vs. the focal design of the 35MM film counterparts.

This will mean a different focal range for the digital camera using the lens. It may also mean varying aperture performance, considering that less exposed area is resulting in an exposure on the sensor, than what was being exposed to the film, and the depth dimension of the digital camera will be different than it's film predecessor.

It may just take some experimentation to determine which lenses work best for digital. Its best to get Digital EOS lenses for work with Digital cameras, but many pro photographers interchange lenses to this day between their 35mm film and digital cameras. Your mileage may vary.
