After 4 years of a lot of use my Seagate hard disk died on my Dell Inspiron N7010 laptop so the decision was simple, I knew I couldn’t afford a SSD and honestly I care more for storage than speed so basically I check online on Best Buy and came upon 3 options. Seagate, WD or Toshiba I already had Seagate and by all means I think they are good but I believe WD has the edge or at least that has been my experience and Toshiba I really wasn’t interested.
I have 3 WD portable hard drives 1 terabyte each and they are still going strong just to give you an idea my laptop is on from 7 am to 9pm Monday to Friday and a few hours on over the weekend so that is a lot of hours of work for that old Seagate so no complaints just wished it last longer but that one was 640 Gb and this one is 1 terabyte so I’m happy with the extra storage plus I need something reliable and WD is very good in my opinion. It fit perfectly on my laptop I backup all my documents, videos and pictures and did a clean install of Windows 7 again, I had the original backup disk done by the Geeks here on Best Buy when I bought the laptop plus the extra Cd’s with all the programs from Dell so the installation was a breeze honestly the most painful part was waiting for all the windows updates and finally for the SP1 update which it took a while but I knew that so no biggie.
You can clone your entire hard drive with their software and backup everything to another portable hard drive if you like or even to the new one with a sata cable if you have one. I have one from Acronis I got long time ago but I wanted to start fresh and no bring all problems to the new drive so I didn’t mind put back all my programs, pictures, videos and expend a couple of days doing that my laptop is faster now just like a brand new. The drive is super quiet and it works fine no problems at all if you are looking for storage and good price look no further, one other thing it may help you if your laptop is plug to the wall all day like mine I have it set to “High Performance” where the battery indicator is I’m not sure how is on other laptops but I suppose is the same usually it comes set to balanced but I need the speed and performance more than anything and I found this very useful.
You may find it cheaper online by other vendors but if the hdd is faulty or damage and you have to pay to have it shipped back to them then you no longer save any money plus you have to wait a few days, one time I did get a bad one and it was here at Best Buy store but as soon as I realize the drive was bad I exchange it for another one at the store and in 10 minutes I was back in my house no problems and specially no need to wait. Some things are ok to buy online others like this not for me. Hope this review can help with your decision and good luck with your drive.

My 5 year old Motorola 6120 went bad last week and after having the Cox technician in my house I Ask him between the 6141 and the 6183 what will be best and he told me for $30 more I would go for the other one and you should be good for the next 4 or 5 years even if we keep upgrading. We recently got 100 Mbps downstream upgrade here in Ladera Ranch so as you can see in the picture I'm getting on my Pc 110 to 120 Mbps downstream and 5 to 10 upload. My Laptop gets 75 Mbps down and 5 upload, he told me according to our plan I should have 8 channels down and 4 up and this one has 16 down so I'm good. All you have to do is plug the cables and call your cable company to give them the MAC address of your modem and serial number I was ready in about 15 minutes to surf the net We have 3 computers including one iMac, 3 cells, 1 iPod, 1 iPad, 1 media player, game console and 3 blu ray players hook to the wall and streaming Netflix and no problem whatsoever on any device. My only concern is if you check on the picture this modem gets very hot 103F towards the back on any given day just browsing and doing our usual stuff is on my closet but is well ventilated, my older one didn't get hot at all compare with this guy but maybe is normal. I turn off at night modem and router since both are plug to an outlet surge protector just in case. Cox tech told me don't turn off the modem and always leave it on, just turn off the router if you want to stop the internet but I don't see the need for it if I'm not using the internet and all our devices are off. Specially since this little guy is like a big hot blue disco ball with those bright blue led lights, is insane you can see that on the picture as well I wished they would give an option to dim the lights at least at night it would be good I can't imagine someone having this on their room. Another good thing is you can check on your browser the status of your modem with lots of info in regard to all the channels plus product info, event logs, addresses and configuration so it has plenty of information in case something goes wrong. So far I'm very happy everything is good in case you wonder my router is a 4 year old Netgear WNDR3800 running strong too. Hope this review helps anyone who is looking into this modem. Big thanks to the Best Buy employees for helping me find this guy since the closest one to my house didn't have any, they check on their computers and told me to go to the one in Irvine who had one left and I got it. This one is selling like hot bread so always ask if they don't have any in stock. Only giving 4 stars because of the lights and heat.
