Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70–300mm f/4.5–5.6G IF-ED Telephoto Zoom Lens: Leave the tripod at home and create stunning still images and HD videos from any distance with this Nikon telephoto zoom lens. The versatile focal length allows you to capture intricately detailed photos of sports events, wildlife and distant scenery. Very fast focusing

Nice lens with very fast and sharp focus system. It's a little bit heavy, even with its exterior almost plastic. The mouting area is the only metallic part visible.
For a DX body (D5100) it was specially interesting because instead of 70-300, I got a 105-450 "superzoom" lens.
Unfortunatelly it has no macro option and, because of that, can't focus closer objects (minimum distance around 1 meter).
There is no "lock" button (at least I couldn't find one until now), but the focal length ring is a little bit "tight", which for me is enough.
If you ever need filters (I suggest at least a polarizer) be aware of the unusual 67mm diameter. You probably won't have suitable filters from other lenses.
As Nikon does with every lens, this product comes with a decent package: bag, hood and covers.
Just remember: This is an FX lens. It's originally designed for full frame bodies. If you have a DX now (like me with a D5100), you'll keep it when you upgrade to any full frame model (losing the 1.5x crop factor).
What's great about it: Focus speed
What's not so great: Weight, strange 67mm diameter
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nikon D5100 DSLR Camera with 18–55mm VR Lens: Easy to carry and easy to use — the Nikon 5100 offers you the versatility to create vibrant photographs and videos. Weighing slightly more than 16 oz., this camera fits easily in a larger purse or bag without weighing you down. When used in auto mode, the 11-point autofocus ensures clear pictures, while the fully manual mode allows complete control of exposure. With 16.2 megapixels, photo enlargements pop with detail and clarity. This package includes a Vibration Reduction lens.

A very nice product

This package has no surprises against what's described in every forum you might look, except for four little details you might be warned:
1) The burst shooting mode gives you 4 frames per second, but even with a class 10 sd card, you can't hold it for more than 8 or 12 frames. After that, it slows down. In other words, its buffer is not cleared as fast as you shoot.
2) It's not described anywhere, but it's a little obvious: the camera kit comes with a front lens cover (LC-52). Nikon has its standards, and sell all lenses (even the bundled kit lenses) with both covers. But the accessories list even at Nikon site omits it for this kit. I don't know if this is any "standard omission".
3) This is not a problem "per se", just something I detected. The black sensor dots for the AF indicator are not exactly aligned horizontally. I tried to use them as a level guide, and many photos needed to be rotated later. I don't know if this is a problem with my camera specifically, or some kind of standard.
4) There is no ISO-dedicated button. But you can reconfigure one of its buttons for it (losing its original functionality, of course).
What's great about it: Weight, size and features
What's not so great: A dedicated ISO button would be an interesting option
I would recommend this to a friend!
