Great gaming rig for the price
on June 30, 2017

After struggling with some older hardware for a few weeks, I decided it was time to either build a new gaming rig or buy one. After pricing out the specs on a new rig to my liking, I decided to see what Best Buy had and stumbled across this gem of a computer. I've built all my desktop PCs since the early 90s and tend to be terribly choosy about what I work with. This PC fits the bill perfectly!
One of the best things about this computer is that there is very little "on board" stuff. The video card is an actual video card and doesn't share system memory. The components are MSI brand, which I have come to love. I've owned many MSI products in the past and found them to be of great quality. There is room for expansion inside, and since the design is modular, it means it's up-gradable. Providing an actual Windows installation disk is a nice touch you don't see much these days.
Setting the PC up was very easy for me, just plug in the keyboard & mouse, hook up my sound system, jack the monitor in, and it fired right up. I like having the remote to control the LEDs.
In fact, the only thing I really don't like too much is the keyboard. I feel like the keys are a bit high and I like the action on my Steelseries keyboard, so I'll just continue to use that. Putting this minor problem aside, it's a great PC, amazing speed, and it looks sharp, too!

Nice gaming laptop
on March 3, 2015

I've had this laptop for about a month now and I find myself preferring it over my desktop for my gaming. I don't play FPS, usually MMOs and RTS games, and the laptop handles these types of games in full resolution with ease. I can run Kerbal Space Program (my guilty pleasure) in full resolution, with mods, and the high resolution Astronomer's visual pack with no problems. The included SSD convinced me to go out and buy an SSD for my desktop PC. WIndows 8.1 boots in about 3-4 seconds from power up.
The screen is nothing short of amazing! The colors are vivid and bright. I have not tested the battery but I would expect only 2-3 hours of gaming with the laptop. I also LOVE the feel of the steel keys and the backlight makes my nighttime gaming when my wife is asleep possible.
It does get a little warm with load but nothing a decent cooling mat can't fix.
The trackpad is a little twitchy but I game with a wireless mouse so it doesn't bother me. It just seems to skip a little bit but the integrated buttons are more intuitive than some of the others I've used in the past (I'm looking at you, Lenovo).
I've used MSI components for years. I've installed MSI motherboards on always-available servers and in my personal equipment. Overall, this laptop embodies the quality and reasonable price point I've come to expect from MSI.

Is this vr ready? And just for the sake of comparison to my friends would this be able to out perform a pc with similar specs except that one running sli 970s? Thanks

Yep, it's VR ready. It uses the NVidia 1070 chipset. There's a lot of published benchmarks out there but the lowdown is that it won't perform as well as a 970 in SLI when SLI scaling is perfect, but you'll see far more consistent frame rates out of the 1070. The 1070 will also give you less problems with games that do not support SLI scaling, less heat, and will consume less power. It's also newer, eventually NVidia is going to stop making drivers for the 970.
