Stick Up Cameras, Great. Doorbell, Not So Great!
on July 28, 2016
Posted by: ikeymay
from spokane, wa
got all this stuff set up last week. it's a decent package of stuff, and a good value compared to buying each item separately.
the stick up cameras are great, and everything was easy to set up. the doorbell camera works wonderfully as a doorbell camera and as a doorbell, but not very well at all as a motion detector. (see videos included in this review)
i've spent some (too much) time chatting with customer service at Ring. they want to sell me the more expensive Pro doorbell and tell me my problem is that, due to a couple of steps leading up to my door, the sensors "see over" my head.

weirdly, i can see all of me, head to toe, from my gate to my front door, but the sensors don't trigger the alarm or camera til i'm literally walking past the camera. i've shared videos showing this with customer support, but they insist it's a problem of angle. llok at the following videos and you be the judge.
in this video i exited the white truck on the curb and walked up the sidewalk, up the steps, and into my door before the motion detectors detect me https://ring.com/share/682109625
in this one i trigger the alarm manually, then describe my expectations
https://ring.com/share/682371177
as near as i can tell from their "help", this will only work properly if you have a street level door, no steps, and a prefectly level yard. if that's really the case, it should be clearly stated in the item description.

Easy To Set Up And Great Doorbell, But...
on July 23, 2016

this was easy to set up right our of the box. the android version of the app is awesome. as a doorbell this thing is pretty rad, but as a motion sensor camera it lacks a lot to be desired.
this device was triggering neither alerts nor recordings when people walked up to our house. the motion detector doesn't detect anyone til they're at the door! i spent (wasted) forty minutes online with RIng's rude customer service and was told several times that i need to buy the more expensive Ring Pro. i was also informed that because of the steps, this thing is "seeing over people's heads" and that i need to macgyver the top of the unit out away from the wall with washers to change it's angle. that sounds attractive, right? they viewed one of my videos and would not answer direct questions i asked, just repeating that i should buy the more expensive Pro or angle this one out with washers.
i'm a wage slave and this thing represents too many hours of my life to have it not work as it should, and to be treated like this by customer service! that being said, the video is pretty clear, the doorbell and ability to talk to whoever is at the door from wherever you are is pretty cool. if you have a street level door and a level lawn (isn't that ridiculous?) the motion detector will work fine, too, so i'd still recommend this to a friend.
cheers.

i tried to like this laptop, but...

i really like the size and looks of this computer, but after trying two of them, i was totally unstatisfied. took the first one back very quickly because of a rattly keyboard. the second one ended up going back too because is was painfully slow, had frequent screen freezes, and finally the screen brightness began to fluctuate while in use. my experience with this nearly turned me off of Lenovo products altogether, but i decided to try a ThinkPad, and WOW! am i glad i did! this is everything i was looking for in a laptop! get you one! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-thinkpad-yoga-2-in-1-14-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-black/4310900.p?id=bb4310900&skuId=4310900

I took two laptops back before i got this one this one, and am SO happy that I did! it's sexy, fast, cool-running, and very reasonably priced considering what a baddass it is! way faster than the i7 processor samsung I returned before this... like LOTS faster. the samsung had connectivity issues, too. not this HP though. really... I've never done it before, but i may have to give this laptop a name!
I would recommend this to a friend!

not worth using my upgrade

ok, maybe if we had 4g lte here in spokane this phone woulda wowed me, but with the processor being limited by 3g, it wasn't any better than the iPhone 4S my wife uses. maps sucked, and ios 6 wont let me use google maps. i figure my available upgrade is worth, what... 500 bucks? until we get 4g lte, it's gonna take more than siri and itunes store to use that upgrade for something not much better than i already got. i took back the iPhone 5 and am gonna hold out for the Samsung Note 2, which is spozed to drop the end of october.
What's great about it: it's pretty, has great sound, and i love the itunes store, good battery life too
What's not so great: small screen, apple maps sucks, and can't use goggle maps

This is the best phone on the market!
By volleyplay from Laguna Niguel
I upgraded from the Samsung Galaxy S III. The S III is an awesome phone and the only reason I upgraded to this phone was the screen size and the S-pen option. I was concerned that this phone was to big but after setting it and playing with it for an hour, I am used to it and could not go back to a smaller screen. This phone is not as wide as the original Note and you can actually text one handed plus it has a setting where if you are left or right handed to switch the keyboard closer from left side or the right side. The stock keyboard is better too but I believe that is because it has Jellybean out of the box. The processor is quick and fluid. The battery life is excellent.! The build quality of the phone is superior and it does not feel like it is made out of plastic and it is light in your hand. I would recommend this phone it is worth $300 and if you can't swing that then go with the Samsung Galaxy S III. Both of them are superior over any iPhone.

with these still in "preorder" status on the web site and in stores, one wonders: how did you get yours already?

A little disappointed
By SlowRing
As a doorbell, it works great. The camera is a little slow in picking up and recording the motions. Thought it would work as advertised. ..will keep playing with it.

still no joy
July 28, 2016
moved the doorbell down about a foot from where i first mounted it. still no motion detection til you're literally entering the door. customer service insists this is due to the steps leading up to our door. device picks up cars on the street 40 feet out, but not a 200 lb man standing walking up to it.
in this video i have exited my vehicle, entered the yard, and walked up our sidewalk, past the camera, and am entering our door before it detects my motion and alerts/begins to record https://ring.com/share/682109625
