Best sub $150. phone!

This phone has to be the best bang for the buck smartphone out there. I've had mine for 5 months and bought it as my backpacking/kayaking/mt bike riding phone since it's inexpensive. A few suggestions to improve it: the camera is very good and to make it better, download Open Camera in the Google Play store. It improves the image sharpness, captures more fine detail, especially in lower light. The filters are creative too. Speaker quality: good as is, but I improved it with a app called Ultimate Volume Booster..easy to use. Another highly rated one is Volume Booster Pro. In summary, the Flint has a very good screen, fluid/smooth operation, good/very good camera, very good battery, good call quality and signal strength, very good on board memory at 16GB, and a crazy good price of $49.99. Get it and save your money.

Decent, but free at MetroPCS

This is a decent phone, but not for using more than roughly 4-6 apps due to limited storage..8GB is paltry. At $50., it's not attractive, especially since it's free when you port in a number with MetroPCS (T-Mo network same as Total Wireless) as they give a $60. immediate credit for new port in numbers. Also not that these Simple Mobile phones are very difficult to unlock for use on T-Mobile and their subs, or certainly At&t and their subs.

Excellent Phone

I've been looking for a decent Android and looking to stay under $150. since I'm always getting phones wet or braking them while kayaking, hiking/backpacking, etc. I got this phone after reading a few reviews on Boost's site and took the plunge. WOW, very impressed with the strong call quality on speaker or speaker phone, battery is very good, screen is very good at 297PPI, camera and video is very good, and some bloatware can be deleted. Bang for the buck is BIG on this phone and I'll probably get another as backup. I had the Moto G4 Play for 2 days and returned it..speaker distorts voices and music.

Image Quality Not There
on February 10, 2015
Posted by: JoeM
from San Francisco
Like many here, bought it a few weeks ago on the $129. sale. I have plenty of cameras from dslrs to point and shoot and many years of experience. First of all, I do know these big zoom cameras are a compromise with regards to image quality. But there are some really great ones: Canon SX40/SX50, Nikon P520/530/600, Panasonic FZ70, 200, 1000, and Fuji HS39/35/50 and their higher end X-S1. This particular Fuji S9250 camera shows very poor image quality, especially at the longer telephoto length. Images are blurry, not sharp, and definitely lacking in detail. If you don't print over 4x6 size, you will be fine, but I had a few 8x10 done and they showed the poor image quality. I suggest any of the above cameras (even the Fuji S8200 is much better) for much better results. Mine went back.

Kodak sold their camera division two years ago to JK Imaging and they do indeed make cameras..and very good ones. If you need drivers, you can still get them from Kodak..Google is your friend.
Regarding the AZ521: A excellent camera with image quality equal to any bridge camera on the market (better than Fuji). Camera gets good reviews and makes a great family or travel camera. I had the Canon SX50, and while it's a very good, I much prefer the accurate Kodak colors and video. Very happy with mine

Save your money
By alfons from New Jersey
Camera needs an infinity focus setting. I cannot get focus at full zoom.
Makes the zoom useless. That was the only reason for purchase was the zoom. A waste of money since it doesn't work.
My Nikon with 42x zoom works great. A much better camera.

Regarding focus
August 19, 2014
A "pro photographer" would know to set it to spot focus to get it to focus at the far end (36x optical). Camera knowledge 101..operator error.

Fujifilm - HS35EXR 16.0-Megapixel Digital Camera
By Jim506 from SW Minnesota
I traded down from a Canon 60D to this point and shot camera. I bought a high end video camera and found out I was using that more then the Canon DSLR. Plus I needed something that my wife could use with ease. This camera has a lot of features that a intry level DSLR does not have. The LCD screen turns off when you use the view finder or eye peace, AF, and manual controls. Over all the only difference between the 60D and this point and shot is the lens is not removable. Also having a 16.0 MP is a good trade off from the 24 MP on the 60D. Unless you are going to enlage a photo to a very large poster you don't need the high MP count. This camera will produce a great 8X10 or a little large print. I didn't buy from BB but I noticed that the price has droped and they now match the other web site. Overall a great point and shoot camera. Fujifilm has put a lot of extra's into this camera which makes it a great buy.

Say what??
March 21, 2015
I had this Fuji HS35EXR and while it's a decent small sensor camera, comparing it in any way to the Canon 60D is goofy. The image quality of the Fuji is decent, but the 60D's image quality is much, much better. If you use the Fuji for 4x6 prints, yes, it can produce a nice image, but when you compare the two, it's absolutely no contest. If you compare the same class of camera to the Fuji, say the Canon SX50 or Nikon P520/530/600, these will all give you better images since the HS35EXR is not noted for sharp images. It's also on the low end for quality video with the same class Panasonic, Sony, Canon, and Nikon much better with hi def video. What is very nice about the Fuji is the twist zoom lens as it's smooth and fast, it has a very good electronic view finder and tilt LCD screen, and lots of manual controls. The Fuji is a good all around p&s camera, but if high quality images at 8x10 or larger prints are important, there are better choices mentioned above.

Fair warning;: you can't just walk into a Verizon store and activate this - it will only work as a prepaid. However, it was $50 when I bought it, making it one fourth the cost of a new iPod even though it is more responsive and much newer.

My daughter did in fact buy this Moto G and put it on her post paid (contract) line. It took all of 10 minutes to do at a Verizon corporate store. Maybe you were at one of their dealers (non corp store)?

Poor Quality phone, disappointed customer
By GeekStreet25
Let me say, I own many Sony products including a PS4, Computer, TV, Digital Camera, and various accessories.
I purchased this phone at the very end of last year, and while it lasted I thought the phone performed well. However, after owning the phone for only 3 months, my phone completed died and the phone was useless. I can say for certainty that this WASN'T caused by an accident (never dropped on the floor, or touched water).
My phone was rendered useless, after talking to a customer service rep, he ensured me that if I sent my phone in ( it is under manufacture's warranty) that my phone will be repaired. After sending it in, and waiting 3 months they sent it back saying there is nothing they can do. I'm very disappointed with the way Sony has handled the situation, basically leaving customer's high and dry.
Sony lost a customer with this experience, I can no longer trust the Sony Brand, this speaks very poorly about their products. Overall, I will never buy a Sony product again. They seem to have decreased the quality of their products.
I would not recommend this or any other Sony cell phone to other consumers.

Vague complaint
June 26, 2016
You say the phone completely died..ok, but how about some details? In my experience, Sony repair service has been excellent with quick turn around time. You claim you waited 3 months..how can that be and then they send you back the non working phone? Something missing here.

No LTE kills this phone
July 7, 2016
Carriers are quickly moving to LTE and dropping 3G, so in a LTE area, you are likely to get really slow speeds with lots of signal jump due to LTE and 3G conflict. What was Blu thinking??

Was a $400+ phone in 2014
By Phonebear
This phone has very similar specks to the galaxy note 2 or a galaxy mega. Saying that you cant get those phones used for this price. 2 years ago this was the top of the line phone. It is still very usable phone in 2016. The phone is very adequate but exceptional for the price. I have used the phone for 3 days now. Coming from a note 5 that died on me, this phone was much better then expected. For the price this phone cannot be beat. The camera is decent, the screen has some pixilation, but im spoiled and used to 1080p on amoloed screen. If you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars or get stuck in a contract financing a Samsung or apple phone this is really a good deal. Im not sure how well this phone will last since it is my first expierence with alcatel, but best buy does sell a replacement plan for only $15 dollars for 1 year if anything were to happen to your phone. In conclusion this phone cannot be beat at the price point.

Thanks for your review. Can you comment on call quality...is it loud on or off speakerphone? I like a good speakerphone when training people with a tech on the phone..everyone can hear. Right now I use a Lumia 640 and it's a outstanding phone with loud speaker. Downside is I can't stand their map navigation. Camera comments appreciated too. Thanks

Good phone overall
By redcraftplus
The phone is faster than Android not as feature packed nor app packed as Android but is a good device with a nice design (still prefer Android's) The camera is $hît 100% the worst 8.0 megapixel camera I have ever seen and worst than most if not all 5.0 megapixel Android cameras definitely expected a lot more. One of the worst cameras I have seen in a phone as well not joking ONE of the worst not the worst. Over all a good phone.

Camera is excellent!
November 1, 2016
Something must be wrong with you phone as my detailed comparison with the 640 vs my iPhone 5S showed me that the 640 captured a better overall image. I shot in low light and bright light, some landscapes and macros and the 640 won. Reviews online are always positive about it's camera for stills and video, excellent call quality with a powerful speaker, excellent screen, and very good battery life. Check to see if you have a dirty lens, and if that's not the issue, try HDR in settings, or you have a faulty phone.
