Like so many speakers including mid-range quality towers these do not produce a good bass. I have a need for good sub-woofer for such things. The mids and highs are very good on these speakers. They are clear and the 3 way cross-over does the trick nicely. Here is something to consider: 6 Ohms. Most newer model amplifiers systems have auto-settings that handle this. Make sure after hooking up to do a sound and system re-configuration. These speakers will greatly change the way the room sounds. Run the auto-setup and then tweak it to your desires. I did this on my system and love the results. Some people use these in center mode and others use them in Left/Right mode. I have a 5:1 system. I use them in Left/Right mode. I have 7 speakers and a sub-woofer. I have Martin Logan ceiling speakers (5). The center speaker for me is in the ceiiling. If you are familiar with the high quality of Martin Logan you can guess I am a picky audiophile. Why would I not spend 1500.00 for some nice Electro-statics then? There is always the need. I don't have 3K to spend right now. I have a decent home theater system. Almost everything is Sony. These speakers are 5/5 stars for price and quality.

clean and accurate sound

very happy with the purchase of the martin logan motion 40s. put them up against the best speakers in the magnolia showroom. to my ear they sound nearly as good as the B&W CM9s at half the price. if you drive them they will produce a surprising amount of bass. i am using Marantz PM8005 integrated amp CD6005 cd player. very soon to add SVS SB2000 powered sub to the mix.my listening preference is singer/song writer, jazz, rock. the vocals are are crisp and accurate. my room is medium size 1600 cu. ft., hardwood floors with a rug in the middle. my fear was that they might be a little bright in this room. i was very pleased when i got them home. they sound great ! still in the break-in period so i expect them to only get better ! I highly recommend !

Directional or not?

Are these speakers as directional as the Martin Logan Electrostatic speakers? I actually like directional speakers to a point. Have you compared them to the Electrostatic speakers of Martin Logan?
