Joshy716's Reviews

MacBook Air features fourth-generation Intel Core processors with stunning graphics, all-day battery life*, ultrafast flash storage, and great built-in apps. It's thin, light and durable enough to take everywhere you go — and powerful enough to do everything once you get there.

It's a decent laptop

Alright, so, I'm going to be real in this review and not just "ZOMG APPLE"
This laptop is okay, I got it with a student discount ($100 off!) so it was actually around $900 (~$1000 with taxes). Well... in my opinion, that's still overpriced.
Pros:
- It's very light and compact, very portable (one of the main reasons I bought it)
- It has great battery life, seriously, I lose maybe 10% per hour (another reason I bought it)
- It's decently easy to use
- It's adequate for basic day-to-day needs
- It has a solid and sturdy build
- Made from aluminum so it feels nice
- Aesthetically pleasing
- Unix based OS (nearly required for CS Majors, your options are a Unix emulator on Windows, Linux, or OSx)
- Mag-Safe adapter is nice... but can be aggravating too...
- OS has good integration with web accounts, I can hook up my Google account and get my G-mail and messages straight to my laptop and not through a browser
- Notifications menu is nice and useful, iTunes integration is good
Cons
- It has a slow processor, 1.4GHz base dual-core i5, pretty weak, from time to time it can cause hangs even opening a simple application like OneNote.
- The screen is low-res, it's 1368x768, or... around 720p. Now, since it has a 11 inch screen, it's not too bad, but the low resolution can leave your display feeling cramped.
- It's a bit TOO small... I find myself sitting in awkward positions to use it comfortably if it's not on a desk or while I'm laying down.
- It's pretty bad for Multi-tasking, but this is an OSX problem, not a laptop problem. Windows and Linux are GREAT for multi-tasking, featuring easy snap-to edge functionality and Linux even has easy shortcut-key based workspaces that make multi-tasking a dream. OSx, has neither of those 2 things. Essentially to multi-task on this laptop, you need to make both windows full screen and swipe between the two nonstop... not good at all... you can make a workspace too, but it is nowhere near the level of intuitiveness and usefulness of Linux's workspaces (and it's not shortcut-key based)
- 4GB of Ram... not much at all
- Even with it's "PCI-E based Solid state drive" it still starts up slower than my desktop, which has a bottom of the bin $80 SATA-2 based SSD. But that's also because Windows 8 is now more optimized than OSX.
- The operating system is too clicky...I can operate on Linux and Windows almost entirely without even having to use a mouse... the same can't really be said about OSx... I've tried to look up alternatives, but it essentially boils down to, click on everything, or set up custom shortcuts and scripts to make it so you don't have to.
- Screens coloration is a bit too bright, I find that the some colors can sometimes appear a bit too bright, essentially giving it a washed-out look.
- It's Mac, so there are some compatibility issues
- No microphone port... so if I wanted to use a headset with these, I'd have to buy a USB headset because apparently Apple doesn't believe in microphone jacks...
- Some of the software it comes bundled with could be better ( I mean seriously, text-editor can't even create a simple .txt document!)
Summary:
Essentially, it's a decent laptop, it fit my needs (ultraportable, high battery life, can run a Unix OS very well, and well-built) which is why I bought it, but for $1000 there are plenty of other laptops that will spank this laptop in every category (except battery life and portability) A prime reason I suspect many people would buy this laptop would also be aesthetics, it looks good, it's built well, and they keyboard feels good, but as I've stated earlier, it comes at a price being performance and display quality. The one thing I'd say this laptop has over others in its price range (aside from aesthetics/portability/battery life) is that it has a 256GB SSD, which is large enough for your typical user, and because it's a solid state, it will make anything having to do with file operations run extremely fast.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great but didn't work for me, design is flawed.

Alright, I bought these as a replacement for the Razer Carcharias that broke on me. The build quality is astounding, very nice, much better than the carcharias. The sound quality for music is good but I also feel that overall the sound sounds muffled because it is more tuned to bass. The bass is good and overall the headset feels nice to wear. However, the headset fails at what it was meant to do, it may just be my laptop sound card but by using the splitter, i had to put the mic in my mouth for anyone to hear me and I had all my mic volumes boosted too! Tried many different things from uninstalling my drivers, installing different versions, nothing worked. I then tried this on a desktop and plugged it into a good sound card and it worked but for my laptop which I use primarily because I'm in college, it did not. this could all have been avoided if there was no splitter. I felt bad that I had to retake my Carcharias but may request a refund and buy the Razer Tiamat 2.2 as it is only $20 more and has 2 Subwoofer drivers.
What Razer made here is a headset that can be worn around college as a nice pair of cans, but they forgot what they are, and that is a gamng peripheral company.
What's great about it: comfort, build quality, good bass, mic is good (if it works)
What's not so great: uses an audio splitter instead of a traditional plug, overall bass oriented sound so everything sounds muffled
I would recommend this to a friend!

Overpriced Junkphones

How Often Used:1-2 times a week
First and foremost, Beats are not anything special, and they are not better quality than any other headphone.
I got a pair of these with my HTC Phone, I own a pair of Sennheiser HD429 Headphones, Bose In-Ear Earbuds, SkullCandy Titans, and a Razer Carcharias for gaming. The Beats that I got (which are iBeats) have the least quality out of all of them!
The SkullCandy Titans that I got for $22 have better Sound Quality and Bass than these beats.
My Sennheisers (although they have little bass) dominate the beats (and majority of other headphones i've seen) in Sound Quality. And they cost $20 less than the iBeats! Go with Sennheisers if you want a beautiful sound!
My Bose In-Ear has about the same amount of bass as the iBeats and wrecks the iBeats in terms of Sound Quality.
I listened to some Dubstep/Rock/Trance/Classical/Metal/Classic Rock music on all the earbuds/headphones to compare them. The Beats sound the worst in all fields.
THE ONLY way you can get a decent sound out of the iBeats is to use a product that has Beats Audio built in and even then, alls that it does is equalize the sound so it sounds better.
ON DURABILITY: My friend also got a pair of iBeats and his broke within 3 weeks (Terrible for a $100 investment) However mine have yet to break as I take good care of all my headphones/earbuds but i wouldn't be surprised if they did. From what I hear, numerous people have problems with durability!
If you want the same quality as these iBeats earbuds, just by the SkullCandy Titans, enough bass to rattle your eardrums and sound quality is a bit better.
What's great about it: The style/color scheme
What's not so great: Sound Quality, The Price, The bass, They fall out of ears easily.
