Disappointing...

Just bought these and already regret it… Since I've only had them for about an hour now, I can't touch on durability; however, the cord tangles easily and feels very flimsy. The main issues I noticed are as follows:
1.) They don’t stay in very well. Once they're in your ear, the slightest (and I mean slightest) tug will pop them right out. And yes, I tried switching the ear tips.
2.) The sound is completely disappointing. The bass oomph you'd expect from Beats By Dre is not present at all, the mids and highs sound sloppy, and I even caught some distortion while playing a 320 kbps recording of "Bass I Love You" by Bassotronics at only 75% volume on my iPhone. Just an all-around sad audio performance.
3.) The price is absurd for this quality. The $30 earpods by Apple out-perform these on every level except sound isolation.
The only pros I found with these are as follows:
1.) They look nice outside of your ear.
2.) The microphone is positioned well.
3.) The iPhone controls work nicely.
Conclusion:
All would be decimated if they at least sounded good. I really wanted to like these earbuds. Check my other reviews; I am a Beats By Dre fan, but these were just awful. If you absolutely NEED something that has the Beats logo and only plan to use these for making calls and looking cool to fellow Beats enthusiasts, go nuts. Otherwise, don't waste your time or your money. I plan to exchange these for a set of Klipsch S4i headphones; they are the same price and are receiving raving reviews.
What's great about it: Looks, in-line mic, and iPhone controls
What's not so great: everything else
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can't go wrong for the price!

To make this as straight-forward as possible, I'm going to put my review into a few categories; Design, Sound, Comfort, and Price.
DESIGN: The "innovation" to make a multi-vented enclosure, versus sealed or infinite-baffle, out of the small available space intrigued me. Even though I wasn't in the market to pick up a set of in-ear headphones, the design made me I want to give them a shot.
SOUND: In my opinion, these headphones live up to the "hype" of their commercials. The vented enclosure allows for smooth high, mid, and low response. With increased volume, the sound did not distort and held a strong harmonic blend. The sound actually reminded me of a set of Bose AE2s I had. Coming from in-ear headphones, I was impressed. After my first round of listening, I passed them to my friend and let him sample them. PRO from him listing was he said "they sound better than my beats!" referring to his $150 Beats By Dre "Tour" in-ear headphones; CON from him listening was I could hear EVERYTHING he was listening to even at lower volume (most likely due to the vented enclosure allowing for sound to escape).
COMFORT: This area is so variable since, as the commercials say, everyone's ears are different, but these fit me very well. They fit comfortably in my ears and do not easily fall out. I have used these working out and they did not fall out on my jog. ALSO, the prior Apple headphones would get sweat on them and make me feel like I had water in my ears (not sure if this has happened to anyone else), this pair did not. I was sweating quite a bit and the headphones still felt dry in my ears.
PRICE: For the price you can't go wrong. These sound good and are comfortable… not really sure what else you'd expect from $30 headphones.
What's great about it: Price, Sound, Design, and Comfort
What's not so great: Everyone can hear what you're listening to

Didn't think headphones could sound this good

SOUND:
These headphones are EXACTLY what I'm looking for with sound – clean, clear, and loud with, in my opinion, the perfect blend of highs, mids and, obviously from Dre, lows. Not to go on a bass-rant, but the bass from these headphones is truly impressive – they hit lows at volume levels I didn't even think possible with a set of headphones. Combining this powerful low-end with punchy mids and crisp highs makes for a truly absorbing listening experience.
COMFORT:
My first impression wasn't the greatest on the comfort aspect… The ear-cup shape does not fully surround my ears (like the Beats Studios do) and they were EXTEREMLY tight – to the point I'd get a pressure headache just wearing them. After stretching them around a basketball for a few hours they significantly improved. They still get a little uncomfortable after extended use, but I assume they're still breaking in…
VALUE:
I really didn't do a TON of shopping around as I quickly noticed – nothing seemed to compare. These are not the most comfortable headphones, but they have that PERFECT sound I am looking for, they DO NOT REQUIRE BATTERIES, they are obviously durable, they fold up nicely, and, I know "true enthusiasts" don't care about this, but I also love how they look.
What's great about it: Bass doesn't diminish as I increase the volume *cough* BOSE *cough*
What's not so great: Comfort

COMFORTABLE!

Bose AE2 Headphones:
When looking for headphones, I really only look for two things: Comfort and Sound. I'm not rough on my headphones so it's fairly easy to meet my "durability standards".
COMFORT:
These headphones are VERY comfortable. In my opinion, Bose easily makes the most comfortable headphones. These are light-weight, fit nicely around my ears, and stay snug without adding uncomfortable pressure.
SOUND:
The sound from these headphones is not exactly what I'm looking for, but for the price they do not disappoint. I like fairly loud music with heavy bass. At low volume, these headphones have a great blend of highs, mids, and lows. As the volume increases; however, the lows do not keep up with the mids and highs. In addition, I had a few issues with distortion at higher volumes… could've been the songs, could've been that I was using my iPhone, but my Beats By Dre Pros (obviously not a good comparison) did not distort at the same levels.
What's great about it: Comfortable
What's not so great: Lack of bass at higher volumes

Pair them with a Sub

LOCATION:
I installed a set of these in the factory locations of a 1999 Honda Accord sedan. The mids are in the doors near knee level and the tweeters are on the dash close to the windshield (swiveled to follow the slope of the windshield). Installation was quite simple; however, I have been installing for several years so I still recommend Geek Squad Autotechs.
UPGRADE – After winter, when it is warm enough, I plan to flush-mount the mids (modify the door panel and move the speakers forward so they are no longer behind the door panel). This should increase the mid-bass response and overall impact.
POWERING:
I am powering this component set straight off of the head-unit, a Pioneer AVH-P2300DVD (50Wx4@4ohm). Instead of just using 2 channels from the head-unit to power this component set (which Alpine boasts is possible with the low RMS handling), I am powering the tweeters with the front channels while the mids are powered by the rear channels. This is possible without a built-in high/mid/low crossover as the mids have a passive low-pass crossover built on the speaker itself (little coil wrapped in black plastic on the speaker by the +/- terminals – ensures you do not send frequencies too high to the mid) and the component set comes with passive high-pass crossovers for the tweeters (the crossovers you see in the product image – ensure you do not send frequencies too low to the tweeters). Separating the components in this fashion allows a slight power increase and better tweeter adjustment (use the fader to increase/decrease the tweeter level). I have not checked with an ohmmeter, but according to Alpine's technical support, the ohm load should still stay at 4ohms for the tweeter and the mid.
UPGRADE – I am satisfied with my current power level, but adding an amplifier would definitely be an improvement.
LISTENING:
My immediate reaction was that the mid-bass was lacking. There seems to be a drop in impact around 100hz, but then they played 40-50hz quite well (only for testing – on the head-unit, I set the HPF at 80hz). The tweeters are very crisp and reproduce sound very well. After proper tuning and adjustments, I am very happy with the overall sound from this component set. I listen to a wide range of music – rock, dubstep, country, rap, and even a little classical every now and then. The only music that seemed to stress this set up so far was rock. Crashing cymbals seem to distort the vocals; however, I have not tested many rock songs. Dubstep / Techno sounds amazing.
RECOMMENDATION:
Pair this component set with a subwoofer. I have an Alpine Type-R 12 (SWR-1243D) powered by an Alpine MRP-M500 amplifier combined with my Alpine SPR-60C components and the result is amazing. This subwoofer blends amazingly with these components – I have it set to cover 80hz and lower. This setup is affordable and light on the vehicle's electrical system (cheap amp, but it is 80% efficient – can't go wrong for the money)
Also – check these out on Alpine's website for more info and a demo video: http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-60c
What's great about it: Bi-Amp / Bi-Wire capability, great highs, low RMS, visually appealing
What's not so great: mid-bass response was not up to my standards
I would recommend this to a friend!

You are correct - powering them off of the headunit is not much power at all - I was mainly just curious how they would sound hooked up like that and they sounded... I'll go with "decent" - definitely not to their full potential though. I have since hooked them up to an old JL G2250 (80w RMS x 2) I had laying around and they sound incredibly better (as I assumed the would lol)
