excellent outdoor lights
on July 5, 2018

These lights are simple, but they do what they are designed to do very well. Setup is easy, with the exception of burying the cables.
Build quality: Great. Made out out of all metal, rather than plastic like I was expecting.
Features: Two mounting options: stake into the ground, or mounting plate with screws. Using the app, you can create whatever kind of light you want. Change the color and brightness of each lamp individually and create scenes that are easily recallable.
Only downside is I wish the cables were longer, especially from the power box. Trying to find an outlet available nearby has proven difficult.

great, especially for the price

This is a great receiver, with lots of features, for a great price.
Whats in the box: not much, but you don't need much. The receiver, remote, manuals, microphone for auto-calibration, AM/FM antennae.
Setup: As easy as any other receiver. Plug in your TV, speakers and any input devices that you have. Once you power on the receiver, setup is easy, the graphic interface makes using the menu a breeze. I used the auto-calibration with the microphone, and it works about as well as any other receiver does. It works well enough, but isn't perfect by any means and a manual calibration with a DB microphone is still the best.
Features: Pretty jam packed. Able to use Atmos sound if you have a room that can set up for it. Many network type inputs available as well, such as airplay. Programmable buttons on the front, or the remote, for frequently used settings. Such as a game system, watching a movie, listening to music. You can change your audio/visual settings and save them as a type of quick recall setting.
Sound quality: For what you pay, excellent. Once you spend the time to manually calibrate it, the sound gets that much better.
Overall: nice A/V receiver with lots of features, for a nice price.

excellent wireless charging pad
on June 21, 2018

While this device is very simple, it does what it was designed to do very well.
I have an iPhone X that I charge with this, and it charges at a rate that I would expect out of a 10W wireless pad. Also, there is not much extra heat that is caused like by some of the lower end charging pads.
The build quality is excellent, and the included cord is a great length. I love the built in rubber ring around the top to protect "naked" phones from getting scratched.
Overall: very simple, so a simple review, but it does it well!

Ok, but could be a lot better
on June 1, 2018

I've used quite a few robot vacuums in my day, and this one is higher up on the list, but not the best.
Whats in the box: Vacuum, home base, little magnet boundary blocker.
Quality: Build quality seems good. Robot is solid feeling and the bin feels nice and solid in the unit.
Features: While it touts wifi, I'm not sure I get the point of it as there isn't much you can do with it. Smart navigation, which i'll get to, a remote control, edge cleaner built in.
Use: Well, I'm a bit disappointed. I'll start with Wifi setup. Not the easiest thing in the world. There is a complicated pushing of buttons on the remote, while eating cereal on a tuesday with the sun halfway down. Ok, not quite that complicated, but not nearly as streamlined as it should/could be. Other robot vacuums are MUCH easier to get hooked into your wifi. Then....I don't really see the point, other than remotely starting the vacuum. You don't see a map of where its been (even though I've seen that advertised), you can only schedule every day, or one time. You cannot schedule certain days of the week (every monday and thursday for example). This is a let down, I don't want to clean 7 days a week, but I have to remember to start it every time now.
There is an included remote control (think...TV remote). I also don't see the use. There is an option to where you can use the remote to shine a light on the ground, and the robot will begrudgingly go over there an clean. I found myself contemplating life itself when I was sitting my fat behind on the couch angry pointing a remote at a dust bunny, when it would have been faster for me to just go pick it up.
Navigation: Not bad, but not great. This unit does have a smart navigation feature, so it doesn't just bounce around blindly running into things. Overall it works fairly well. It does not map out the house completely, so it doesn't necessarily remember what rooms it's been in and hasn't been in. I end up with rooms cleaned on some runs, and not on others. Good news? It doesn't get stuck, and usually ends up back at home...although its "go home" feature is a bit lackluster. When the robot is going home, I'm not sure he knows where home is. He just kinda rolls around, wiggles a bit, continues to roll around, and somehow finds his base. Mine usually takes a couple landing attempts to get on the base as well. So far though, he's been successful every time, he would just be embarrassed at his performance of landing. In this day and age, in this price range, robot vacuums are able to use virtual boundaries to block where they can't go. This vacuum still uses a magnetic strip you have to lay on the ground. Very disappointing to me. This really limits the use as I don't want to have magnetic strips all over my house all the time.
Cleaning: The robot does clean fairly well, the carpet looks good and it adjusts the suction power automatically depending on floor type. It has a little rubber blade that comes down when it detects an edge...I fail to see the use of it.
Overall: Cleans well but is missing some important features that competitors in this price range have.

great camera, good quality, easy to use
on May 20, 2018

This is an excellent action cam, for a few reasons. Let me explain.
Quality: Feels solid as a rock, though not inherently waterproof without an extra case, the metal is quality and it feels like I could throw it through a small house without hurting the camera (not recommended).
Ease of use: extremely easy. One button: hold to turn on or off, press once to start recording and again to stop. The only other button is to change from 360 degree recording to 180 degree (if the back camera is blocked for example), or to change it to photo mode. You then plug in the included cable to for your phone....and voila, videos and pictures are there. Super easy! What I love is that you can mount it or hold it anywhere and it doesn't matter where it is facing as it records basically everything all the time. Later, you just pick what you wanted to look at and you're good to go!.
Video quality: amazing. the videos are sharp and color is great. The only downside is that it does need a good bit of light as quality does go down when the subjects are lit very well.
App: Very easy to use. Pulls video from the camera onto your phone for editing. You can chose what to look at, have it follow a subject, look at certain area's automatically while watching the video, watch both cameras at once and more. Very intuitive and easy to use. The auto stabilization is quite good, though when I mounted the camera to my jet ski I turned that off for a more natural feel. When walking around holding the camera, stabilization is a must! Super easy to use, makes using the camera enjoyable as you don't have to sync to a computer later, its all right there!
Overall: excellent camera, highly recommended. The only downfall is that it is not waterproof, I bought an extra "Action case" that works well, but that is a different review. Taking this on my jet ski gets some great video, and because I can mount it anywhere and still see everything, it makes it all worth it!

very nice coffee maker
on May 8, 2018

This is a very nice coffee maker, well built and delivers a nice brew.
Whats in the box: Coffee maker, cone filter, permanent basket filter, coffee scoop.
Features: multiple brewing modes including fast, gold and completely customizable brew mode. Auto timer for starting at a set time. Thermal carafe.
Build quality: Very nice. High quality metals and plastics. Everything clicks into place very nicely. Nothing feels loose.
Use: Brew time is at a good pace. I normally use the Gold setting, which takes longer than Fast, but has a better taste in my mind. I don't use the customizable settings, because it actually is SO customizable with temperature, bloom time etc that I don't even know where to start. Thermal carafe is very high quality and keeps coffee warm for a nice period of time. There is no "clicking" when the coffee is brewing as what happens in some other pots as the coffee drips into the carafe. If you take the carafe out during brewing, it does not drip at all. As in I have not seen a single drip come out! My previous coffee pot would drip like crazy to the point I had to have rags available, or just wait until it was completely finished brewing. There are options of iced brewing if you buy an optional accessory, which I do not have so I have not tested that.
All in all: Great coffee pot. Good taste, nice features, great built quality. Quiet during brewing. Highly recommended.

great little printer for the price
on March 29, 2018
Posted by: Alex
from Minnesota
This is an excellent printer for the price.
It is not feature rich, but it doesn't need to be. Flatbed scanner and printer, what more do you need at this price level?
Setup was very easy, turn it on and goto 123.hp.com and away you go. Took me maybe 10 minutes. HP really has figured out printer setup. This printer supports instant ink, which is a subscription service for ink based on how much you print per month. This printer supports their new FREE service. If you print 15 pages or less per month then you get ink for free, for life. This is great if you are a light printer. Otherwise price starts at 2.99 per month on up.
While this does print photos, there is no dedicated photo paper tray, so you will be swapping paper around when you want to print photos. No big deal as this is not labeled as photo printer anyway.
Scanner has a good resolution, albeit a bit slow. No document feeder, so if you want to do heavy scanning this is not the printer for you.
The built in screen is quite bad. It is monochrome, possibly from an original game boy. While you don't need to do much on the built in screen in self, it looks quite bad when it is on. Especially when compared to higher end HP printers. Not a deal breaker, its just not pretty.
Overall, this is a great little printer for the price and a light printer. Small footprint so it doesn't take much desk space. Prints quickly.

not the best, but not bad either
on March 29, 2018

These headphones are not a bad pair of headphones. Ease of use, setup and quality is on par for the price, but there are better headphones out there, but you will obviously pay more.
These headphones are light, which is a nice touch...but also part of its downfall. The Noise Cancelling is not up to snuff on these headphones, mainly because of the ear cushions and the ANC is not the most powerful out there. The ANC does make a difference, just not a robust amount. The foam on the ears is not a dense either, so they don't physically block out as much noise as they could.
Comfort is fine. Not amazing, but not bad.
Sound quality is what you would expect from a 200 dollar pair of headphones. Good, not great, but acceptable. If you want better sound, buy a more expensive pair of headphones!
I do wish they would have come with a case, or a bag at least.

looks very fancy, not very good sound
on March 26, 2018
Posted by: Alex

While I was taking this speaker out of the box I was impressed. Solid build quality, some decent heft to it, pretty looks. After that I'm kinda disappointed.
While this does have some advanced features, I'm sure some of them you won't use.
Features: Fancy lights that you can customize using the app. While pretty, they don't provide much use. When they are following the music, they are always a half beat behind so it looks a bit off. Party booster: You slap (literally) your speaker to make wiki-wiki DJ noises. I'm pretty sure you won't be using this at the next smores fire. A few inputs, its waterproof (nice). Battery seems to last a while.
Sound: OK, time to review what a speaker is used for....sound. If I had to use one word: Muddy. If I had to use more than one word, very muddy. It defaults to "extra bass" which sounds awful. Very boomy muddy sounds with muffled highs. When I played around with the EQ, I could never get it to sound very good. Still ends up muffled or tinny. The sound on some of my other branded cheaper speakers are much better.
Overall, I would probably skip this. Too many gimmicks with pretty bad sound quality.

excellent upgrade over the previous system
on March 16, 2018
Posted by: Alex
from Minnesota
So, should you upgrade from the older system to the newer one? If you have a few hundred dollars, absolutely!!
This new system is lightyears ahead of the old one. Everything from setup to use to build quality is sooo much better.
So far, no connection issues between any of the sensors and the base. With the older system I would have some connection issues with either a keypad or an entry sensor. So far, this system is rock solid.
Setup: Even easier than before. You click a button on the sensor and the keypad asks you to name it based on commonly used names (garage, patio etc.). It took me all of 5 minutes to completely set up the new system. Using the app, all I had to do was transfer my current account to the new basestation, VERY easy. The test call went out perfectly and very quickly, I struggled with this with my other system.
Use: The keypad is very solid, backlit and high end looking. Response time is very fast and it recognizes every button press. You can adjust most settings on the keypad itself, or you can use the website or app on your phone to adjust settings. Temporary pins are very easy to add for dog walkers etc.
While it sucks that it is not backwards compatible...it a way I'm glad its not because this system fixes a lot of the communication issues that at the previous version of the system had. This also is able to use WiFi as a secondary connection along with cellular to ensure a solid connection to the call center.
In the end. If you can afford it, totally upgrade, it is a MUCH nicer system. The looks alone might make it worth it as the keypad looks like a ferrari compared to the older one, and the door/window sensors are much smaller.

How do you switch out of Boost mode?

I may have accidentally pressed the Boost button while connecting the right sweeping tool. I was not able to switch the Boost mode off. I had to use the vacuum in Boost mode that ran out of battery in 6 minutes and then I have to recharge for 3 and half hours. Is it possible to switch off the Boost mode?
in order to turn it on or off you have to do it while holding the trigger.

with one had, pull the trigger to turn the vacuum on, with your other hand press the "max" button on the back, the unit will switch back and forth. There is a blue ring lit up around the max button when max mode is on.
