The sales person told me I would need this to install my stereo, but I didn't. It was the same as what was already in my car, so I just cut & spliced the wires from my car to the wires from the stereo. The only way you might need this is maybe if you've never had an aftermarket stereo put in your car, or if you've had many different stereos and the wires are too short to splice. I'm just putting this out there for anyone attempting to install a stereo for the first time like me, you may not need everything they say you will, so open things carefully and save your receipt!

I didn't end up using this. The one I had from my old stereo fit a little better. I have a 2001 civic and purchased a JVC stereo. But I opened it carefully and resealed it, they let me return it.
What's not so great: It didn't really work for my car and the stereo I purchased, there was still a gap exposed under the stereo face.
