Great center speaker with 683 towers and 685 bookshelfs for surround backs and the reciever im using sc-37 pioneer receiver,to make long story short all BW speakers need power to push them, plus bi-wire or bi-amp them for better lows and highs and also get audioquest wires or cables,if you are cheap this review is not for you,its all about soundfield.

To be honest these speakers need alot power to push them,to anybody who reading this review do not use entry level receivers on any BW speakers, the better receiver or amp and processor the better the soundfield,i bi-amp my towers and by-wired my center and bookshelfs it makes highs and lows sound better, plus use audioquest cables, and other thing make sure your electric line is use by itself on the fuse box.

Fair, at best
By Speedy742 from Selma, TX
This speaker is poor. The sound quality is far from par and the tuning is all wrong. Don't get me wrong - the 684 and 685 are AMAZING speakers but this center doesn't match well.
If you don't care for my review seek out review of this on audiophile websites. It does badly.
My suggestion - but another set of 685s and use one as a Center. A much better matched and quality speaker.

Superb for certain types of users, avg for others
By blurayman from Chicago, IL
I'm an avid home theater enthusiast, who has owned many high-end home theater products from all of the major manufacturers. With that said, I can tell you that this player is certainly very good, although it is a bit of a disappointment. Allow me to explain...
For the average CE consumer, this player simply won't be worth their money. Most of them are just going to connect the player directly to their television or A/V Receiver, via HDMI, and thus, will not reap the benefits afforded by this player. On the other hand, specific CE consumers, that I would classify as "Budget-minded enthusiasts", will be able to derive rewards from this player, that they will otherwise not be able to get for $290 - $350.
If you are such a consumer, this player just might be for you. For those of you that prioritize maximizing video and audio quality from each piece of your equipment, this player will probably make you very happy. I would go so far as to say that you probably won't be able to find a player for the same price, or less than this one, that will deliver the type of audio and video performance that this player does.
However, if you are just a consumer that wants to own a very nice blu-ray player, and you won't be connecting it a very nice amp or receiver, via 7.1 channel analog, this is definitely not the player that you want. I would look into Sony's 790 or 590 lineup, or Panasonic's 220 or 320 lineup, if you fall into this category. You simply aren't going to get your money's worth, if you're just buying this player and connecting it to your television or receiver via HDMI.
There is one more type of consumer that will greatly benefit from this player. If you own an older A/V Receiver, that is not 3D capable, this player will allow you to connect one HDMI cable directly to your television, and a second HDMI cable to your receiver, thus allowing you to still output lossless audio, whilst viewing full HD 3D. However, there are cheaper players (Sony 790, Panasonic 320) that will allow you to do the same thing.
Now that I've discussed which type of consumer will or will not harvest the maximum benefit from this player, let me go over some of its strengths and weaknesses.
We will start with audio performance, as that is what this player is primarily intented for. The Burr Brown 5102's are solid. You won't get anything comparable on a unit that is priced the same or less than this. Just keep in mind that you will only reap the benefits of the Burr Browns, if you're connecting via 7.1 channel analog. If you are connecting this way, this player will deliver audio quality that matches players in the $500 - $1,000 range. Although, the new Oppo BDP-103 will give you vastly superior audio quality, and is priced $150 - $200 more than this player.
The video performance is everything you could ask for. Anybody who buys this player is not going to have a single complaint about video quality. Here's the caveat: Almost no consumer is going to be able to tell a difference in the video quality of this player, compared to an $85 entry-level blu-ray player. If you need the peace of mind that your player is technically delivering superior video quality than cheaper players, by all means, this one will give that to you. In fact, it delivers video quality that is technically on par with players that are two to three times the cost of it. However, once again, your friends and family members that are oblivious to such things will never know the difference. And they wouldn't if you displayed the image offered by this player, side-by-side with the image delivered by an $85 player, on two identical televisions. Keep that in mind.
A few other points of interest: This player doesn't load or navigate very quickly, at all. I would even go so far as to say that most mid-level players will load your blu-rays quicker, and navigate chapters much, much quicker. The front panel/disc tray cover is a joke. For a machine that offers such stellar build quality, and is so solid, overall, there's no excuse for a mirrored piece of plastic being used on the front. The remote control is nice, and has good build quality, but it is actually quite annoying, even after several months of getting used to it. The Wi-Fi streaming is inconsistent, at best, and terrible at worst.

It's not bad, but it's certainly an imposter
By blurayman from Chicago, IL
Based on the specs, and the gorgeous looking aesthetics, I felt like this player deserved to be taken for a test run. I'm an avid home theater enthusiast. I own multiple blu-ray players, multiple televisions, multiple receivers, a projector/screen/ and a lot of other HT/AV equipment. I understand that this seems pointless, or like overkill to most people, but it just goes with the territory, for people like me. I'm only offering this background, so that potential readers will know where I'm coming from. Essentially, if there's a new home theater product that offers something unique, I'm going to pick it up, and see if it's worth adding to the stable.
Unfortunately, when it comes to this blu-ray player, I'm sad to report that it's a mixed bag. The chassis, build quality, and overall hardware are not solid or nice enough to justify flagship status. As you might imagine, this also means that this player doesn't earn the $250 that is required to purchase it. It's simply not a flagship blu-ray player, and Sony is well aware of this. Sony equipped it with the sleek styling, new gimmicks, and the full feature set of a flagship player, but engineered and built it on a chassis that is not much different from many cheap, low-end players.
I'll start with the positives: If money is no object for you, and you're looking for a player that is extremely compact, and quite good looking, you could definitely do worse. This player is slim, handsome, and lightweight. It features dual HDMI outputs, so if you have a 3D television, and a legacy (non-3D) receiver, you'll be able to use one for video, and the other for audio. The video quality delivered by this player is also top-notch. The problem is, the positives basically end, at this point. There's nothing else about this player, that you can write home about.
Moving on to the negatives: As I touched on before, the chassis, build quality, and hardware are less than top of the line. The chassis is actually quite cheap and flimsy. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it's the same one used for Sony's entry-level players. The build quality is no different than what you've experienced with any cheap blu-ray player. The overall hardware is certainly not what one would expect from such an expensive player. I know that some of you are saying that $250 is not expensive for a blu-ray player. Trust me, you're preaching to the choir. My most expensive player is a $1,200 one. However, in this case, $250 is actually very expensive, considering what you're comparing this player to. With the exception of 4K upscaling -- which you will never need, or use -- and dual HDMI outputs, this player is not really any different than many players that can be purchased for as little as $110. If you're arguing that 4K upscaling is a useful feature, just keep this in mind: Any 4K projector or television is going to feature its own superior 4K upscaling and video processing. Using the 4K upscaling on this player would be utterly pointless. If you're buying Sony's new 4K projector, their new 4K TV, or LG's new 4K TV, their 4K upscaling performance is going to be vastly superior to that offered by this player. Therefore, even if you engage it, your 4K television or projector will basically bypass it, and take care of the upscaling internally. And again, it will do it much better.
This player offers mediocre audio quality, and doesn't give you the option of connecting via 7.1 channel analog. Players that cost half as much, or less, will give you audio quality and options that are no different than the ones afforded by this player.
At the end of the day, this player is just a mid-level player, masquerading as a flagship product. There are other players that feature dual HDMI outputs that cost much less, and there are other players that are comparably priced, that offer superior build quality, a stronger and more solid chassis, and improved performance. It's not bad, by any means, but it's definitely misleading. Most people that buy this player, are going to do so under the presumption that they're getting a top of the line product. In reality, they are just paying double for a mid-level player.

Great pic quality, fast response, many services
By JayDoubleyou from Carlsbad, CA
The best feature is the 10-sec "quick review" button. Picture quality is excellent. DVD upscaling is great; with two custom picture controls you can fine tune almost everything. It has very fast response to pause, reverse, fast-forward, etc., similar to a good DVR. Disc transport & spin is very quiet, much better than my 2-year-old Samsung.
Easy access to many on-line services such as Amazon Prime is a big plus; also the ability to enter and bookmark web pages.
Downside: the small remote has small buttons, close together, all dark, and impossible to see in a dim room. Even worse while wearing 3D glasses. And there is no option to zoom the picture; you cannot view just the central area on a letterbox movie, for example.
