These Bowers & Wilkins CM6 S2 bookshelf speakers utilize 6-1/2" Aramid fiber bass/midrange drivers and 1" free-mounted Decoupled Double Dome aluminum tweeters to provide detailed cross-spectrum audio.

Too much bass spoils the sound

B&W 6 series speakers has been a hit but not the CM series. This CM6 would have been better if it had bass port on the front instead of back. The only reason bass port is on the back is to differentiate this model with its high end diamond series. The result has been too much bass. Maybe they should start calling certain speakers such as CM6 as stand mounters instead of bookshelf speakers. If you are planning to keep this on the bookshelf, good luck with that. I tried it and it didn't work. Also the lower end is not tight and it rattles. Provided foam plugs doesn't solve the purpose. It makes the sound muffled. For $2000, I am going to try other brands.

With a 5-1/4" midrange, 5-1/4" planar low-frequency woofer and 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter cone, this Definitive Technology Pro Monitor 1000 Black bookshelf speaker provides immersive cinema sound in a small package.

These are one of the finest surround speakers. I also have a pair of Definitive SM45 which are amazing speakers with wonderful mids and great highs when paired with a good audio equipment. Promonitor 1000 has got more clarity on the highs which is a must on surround speakers. I do switch surround speakers between SM45 and Promonitors as both are good in its own ways

Best back/rear surround and near field speaker

I was looking out for speakers with good high end imaging/detail and clarity for surround duty. I tried nearly 6 to 7 brands for rear surround duties starting from JBL loft series, Wharfedale 10 SR, Polk OWM3, Pioneer SP BS41, B&W 686, Energy RC-10 etc. Finally settled for SM45 bcos Definitive gave me that imaging, musicality and sound that I had no clue where it is coming from when watching movies. Since I don't have kids at this time I am currently using SM45 on a stand for rear surrounds. In future I am planning to get promonitor 1000 so that I will have the flexibility of mounting it on the wall for rear duties and move SM45 for near field listening. For near field listening, I tried running SM45 with HK3490 and Cambridge DAC magic 100. It sounds amazing and I couldn't believe my ears. This review is coming from a person who owns B&W 685/HTM6X, Energy RC-70/LCR and few others that I don't remember :).
Trust me and buy this for surround and nearfield duties. You won't be disappointed.

Love the new design. I got to test these out at Magnolia dept. It was between these and the B&W 686. The ML 35xt sounded much better and crispy at low volumn. I wanted to get these for my apartment without blasting the volumn. Too bad they don't come with matching stands like B&W or other speakers. Overall I'm in love with the clarity and the sound.

Did you compare ML 35xt with 685? 686 is not on the same league as 35xt.
