close to perfect laptop/tablet blend
on December 18, 2015

Pros:
beautiful extremely hi res display
powerful processing, with upgrade options to fit your own needs
great keyboard worthy of serious work
touch AND keyboard savvy, unlike apple competition
easy ability to turn into tablet
long battery life with two batteries, larger in base, smaller in tablet
two usb 3.0 ports, SD card options
extremely fast boot, wireless connection
price is not out of line with value
Cons:
SD card sticks out about half an inch, but there are work arounds
not really a con, but you have to immediately perform windows updates when you begin using the Surface Book, and you should go to control panel and type "close" to change "what to do when you close the lid" settings to hibernate until an update comes out soon for minor power issues.
Like all technology, there will be even further improvements down the road, but I would not hesitate in purchasing the version of Surface Book that best fits your needs.

exceptional monitor, perfect for windows 8, 8.1

This is an exceptional monitor.
Using it reminds me of using a Surface Pro tablet. The S2240T's design allows you to enjoy the best of the "traditional" and "new" aspects of Windows 8.
When you want to work, you can put the S2240T in its upright position, use your keyboard and mouse, and blast through what you need to get done.
When you want to casually surf the web, play games, look at pictures, or use Windows 8 apps, you can fold the screen to a comfortable angle and have a tablet-like experience with your desktop pc.
Image resolution is impressive. You can use the DELL Display Manager utility to automatically change the monitor settings to your chosen presets for each application, or you can lock in standard, cool, warm, custom or other setting for all of your uses.
Build quality is impressive. The glass extends to the very edges, making Windows 8 gestures easy. It's very responsive to touch. The stand is solid and easily adjusts to a wide variety of angles (it won't lie completely flat for "two user" games, but I don't do this, so it's not a problem for me).
Size is a bit smaller than the 24" DELL LCD this monitor replaced, but I've found the 21.5" size is more than sufficient, and the S2240T is much more affordable than larger touch monitors, especially considering its fine build quality.
You should be aware that you will need two connections for touch screen capability on any desktop computer monitor: a hdmi (or lower resolution)video connection, and a usb connection in order to communicate your touch gestures back to the pc.
Very impressive. DELL has made a monitor that allows you to take advantage of all Windows 8 (and 8.1)has to offer!
I only have a small complaint about the S2240T: the sticker with the marketing info and energy star logo was affixed to the glass with an adhesive that was very difficult to remove (I ended up carefully using goo gone which didn't damage my monitor, but there is probably an even safer way to remove it).

What's great about it: image, build quality, flexibility
What's not so great: nothing except info sticker is difficult to remove

As with any computer or tablet, you need to determine what you would like to do with the device. If what you'd like to do is check e-mail, play light games like Angry Birds, have an e-reader, and surf the web, Surface Pro is overkill. If you'd like to do the above AND do the things you can do on an ultra-book or desktop pc... full Microsoft Office program suite, audio/video conversion and editing, use the PC software needed for your job or schoolwork, etc.), there's really no other option like the Surface Pro. A powerful PC in tablet form.
I replaced my ipad 2 with a Surface RT when they came out. While the RT had a lot of things going for it, the screen wasn't nearly as good, you were limited to "tile" apps in the Windows store and a capable, and the RT version of Office 2013 did not include Outlook.
Surface Pro offers it all: "legacy" Windows software, securely access corporate and educational networks, processing speed that equals or surpasses most ultra-books, beautiful screen, fantastic touch response, bluetooth connectivity for keyboard, mouse, etc, USB 3 port, strong wireless connection, extremely compact design.
Peripherals: When you want to do "real work" you'll want the Touch Cover (or to link to a full-size bluetooth keyboard). I use a Microsoft bluetooth mouse and the Touch Cover when I'm working. The Waicom pen is nice for light mouse duties (it includes a "right click" button and eraser), for note taking, and for drawing applications. It's a true Wacom digitizer pen and works really well despite its cheap build quality compared to the Surface Pro itself. The magnetic pen holder is not real strong, so you'll want a back up plan for storing the pen.
You can attach a good external usb DVD/CD reader burner for $30 or less if you need that capability.
Memory: Get the 128 GB model. Even if you don't plan on using a ton of software and apps, 64GB is too small since you will have about 1/3 of that space used just in the Windows 8 Pro software. Luckily, you have a microsd card slot (the largest current size card is 64GB). You can do an online search for a few easy steps you can take to have the Surface Pro recognize your microsd card in the computer's main libraries (documents, music, pictures, etc.). You can also attach a portable usb hard drive for virtually unlimited storage potential.
In "tablet" use, the Surface Pro gets slightly warm (not much warmer than my wife's ipad 3). The unique perimeter fans are essentially silent (I only heard a slight humfrom them when I was doing some strenuous audio file conversion task). I get 5 to 6 hours of battery time when I'm doing things you would typically do on an ipad. I'm not bothered by the additional 8 ounces the Pro has over the RT or latest ipad.
For "work" use, the kickstand is fantastic. You can set up at a table or other flat top and get some serious work done. It's also nice for setting on a table to read or watch a movie. The Surface Pro is not really designed for you to do a ton of keyboarding with it sitting in your lap as some people like to do with a standard laptop. That said, it doesn't weight three pounds, fits easily into small tote, and converts into a comfortable tablet in the time it takes to snap off the Touch Cover. The keyboard that pops up when in tablet mode is easy to use (I think easier than even the ipad's) and is fine for tablet tasks.
The Surface Pro does everything I need and more. No regrets, highest of recommendations.
What's great about it: size, compatible with classic Windows programs, type cover, pen, speed, extremely solid and portable
What's not so great: battery life could be longer, certainly not a big problem
I would recommend this to a friend!
