Great Business monitor
on April 16, 2025
Posted by: OmieOne
Talk about a throwback monitor, I haven't seen a d-sub (VGA Connector) on monitor in a long time and it is handy for older KVM switches esp for home labs, so that is a nice thing to have since I have old hardware and the 24" size is perfect for my Rack, without having to give into my bad eyes with a smaller monitor, though if you can run HDMI, you do get 100hz which is so much nicer even for daily office use at least for me then a 60hz monitor after my home gaming monitors got me used to smoother screens and its nice to have a secondary office monitor that can do 100Hz instead of the usual 60hz. Its an IPS panel so you get a great picture and for my use I didn't really notice too much light bleed, if you want a secondary monitor for streaming movies this worked really well I found, it had the right brightness and colors seemed good to me. This is defintely aimed at businesses though because of the d-sub connector as they are the only ones using d-sub, or people with homelabs using older hardware. Either way I think this is a great monitor for those uese and am enjoying it.

Great Travel Keyboard and Mouse
on April 16, 2025
Posted by: OmieOne
I like this is a small easily packable keyboard and mouse for travel. Able to connect to three devices easily and switch between them. While not a full size keyboard, it is usuable for tablets and phones, as well as a laptop, runs on standard batteries with some nice battery life, and you can easily slip it into your computer laptop bag and doesn't add a lot of weight. The small mouse is also great, easy to handle and connect between different devices which is good for me as I usually travel with two laptops, my companies and clients device, being able to switch between them on the fly is awesome and huge bonus for me, and same with the keyboard. Also the compact size of the keyboard is great as I can carry it in my hand for presentations/drop on lectrns and move between devices as I am doing it. The downside of the keyboard as its a membrane keyboard and I prefer to type on mechanical keyboard, so the feel is a bit off, but not enough for me to use while travelling because its easier to add to my bag and travel with it and use it. Mouse is perfect for me and works well. I'm very very happy with this and think you will be.

Awesome Shaver for the family
on April 7, 2025
Posted by: OmieOne
Overall I really like this shaver and the shave it provides. First it comes with a nice hard case, so if you travel you can protect it and not worry about the heads popping open and spilling hair in your bag. That alone is worth it to me.
It does have an a Phone Application like everything else that you can connect it to for basic information but I feel I don't need to connect everything to a phone app to use, and luckily you can use it without a phone app, but it is there if you want it, which I'm sure some people find handy, like reminders to charge/clean the phone, I just don't need anything else on my phone so I skipped it.
The one feature I really like, not for me, but having nuero-diverse children who need to shave is the light on the shaver, showing when you applying the correct pressure, for them that really seems to help them get it right with the visual clues and makes my life easier in trying to explain to them how to shave, so the hard case and that have made this a winning shaver and the shave is close, I can get very smooth skin thanks to Phillps, so I, my kids and wife highly recommend for when you need to have a baby skin smooth shave.

Chromebook for the Web
on March 28, 2025
Posted by: OmieOne
This is a simple chromebook, so you don't need a lot of fancy or get a lot of fancy features, but what you get is a simple full sized keyboard and decent touchpad that can be used to consume media and web browsing, social media doom scrolling, this will work for you. Setup is easy, its a chromebook, log in with a google account and connect to your wifi and your off. Since Google wants everything stored in the cloud the local storage is tiny, but is really only used for cache. Don't expect this to be blazing fast, its fast enough, espically for chromebook designed with good battery and to be used as a web portal device this is perfect. It was also nice Acer included a laptop sleeve and a nice one too to keep the chromebook safe when travelling/work or for storage inbetween. I also like the keyboard has a good feel and easy and comfortable to type on, which is handy as I use it mostly in the evening while TV is on, to watch emails and respond too them and since this is an overpowered hungry CPU, I can roam the house a bit with it if I need too. Overall if your looking for a chromebook as a web portal device I find this to suit the purpose perfectly.

Perfect Office Keyboard
on March 10, 2025
Posted by: OmieOne
This is a great light weight easy to connect keyboard that is perfect I find for office use, and doesn't require anything fancy to get it working.
Setup was striaght forward I plugged the dongle for the wireless connection into a USB-C port and was typing no issue, saw the special keys to open things like calculator (handy for me) and the media knob without issue. Jlabs says there battery will last a year, not sure on that, but I have been using it a solid 2 weeks in the office and still has not complained about low battery unlike some other wireless keyboards I've had so that is a huge win for me, less charging. Also its nice that you connect to another device via bluetooth and cable because for work occasnionally I do have to switch between devices and doing it on the fly from one keyboard is great, now if only I could get my mouse to do the same.
The switches are linear, so if your more into the click then these switches aren't the ones you are looking for. However if you want a smooth typing experience with excellent battery and able switch between devices even phones this is the keyboard you are looking for.

The Insignia 4' USB-C to USB-C Braided Charge-and-Sync Cables (2-Pack) will not only quickly charge your smartphone but also let you transfer files and sync your devices. The 4 ft. cable is just long enough for your needs, and the braided jacket keeps the cable protected.

Charging Cables
on February 10, 2025
Posted by: OmieOne
These are nice, braided charging cables for USB-C PD Charging and some light data sync. I say light as the box confirms these will get USB 2.0 speed, which in most cases would be fine for light syncing and depending on your phone as fast as it will go. For the Power delivery they easily handle 60 watts from my phones charger and below. I was even able to use it to charge and run my laptop at 60 watts which is a nice to have one cable that can handle more then one device. For a phone charger, especially in a car, four feet is a perfect length to reach most places you'd put a phone holster I find. The one reason I didn't give 5 stars is the size of the USB-C connection on the cable for my phone has a tendency to fall out if moved. Now it may just be my phone or case, but this is one of the first cables I've see do that, so I am taking one star off for the fact that if I hit a bumpy strech of road in my car, I may have to reseat the cable at the next stop light. But on a desk I don't have any problems. So if you need cables these will definitely do for charging phones and business type laptops.

Ba-da-Boom!

Is is a great bit of sound kit and finally a soundbar that can help replace my old wired 5.1 Sound system. You definitely will want to make sure your TV has an HDMI eArc connector for the best sound, but at least an ARC, to ensure the best possible sound from your movies, esp the ones with Dolby Atmos.
You can also mount this to the wall which I assume will give you better sound being more free floating then sitting on the TV stand, however I have mine on the stand and to be honest Klipsch engineered it with people like me as the Subs are pointing up from what I see so you get the feel in the room. You can either use the remote included or there application for your phone to EQ/Remote control the device and pair. You don't need anything fancy if you just want 2.1 sound, and I find the dialog boosting function to work well, I could actually hear it in the Chris Nolan movies I tested, which is awesome.
The main advantage to this system is you can add a proper Subwoofer and two Wireless speakers to this. I like the ability at a later time to add the wireless speakers and not have to run wires throughout the living room, just make sure they are in a place with Power.
I think is the great and well thought out by Klipsch and they are using Onyoko for the electronics and that combo created a very solid and well sounding soundbar that I am happy with and will most likely expand in the coming year to include the wireless speakers for true surround sound.

The little bar that could.
on January 20, 2025

My use case for this soundbar wasn't for a home theatre setup in a movie room, but for my bedroom and small TV. As you can guess the speakers on the TV aren't great and I feel like I have the volume all the way up and can barely hear, so having a smaller mini-sound bar to give me 2.0 sound for late night TV is a definite step up. These gives good sound for the occasional TV Drama and Youtube video I grab at night before bed so I'm happy with that. I even did a movie the other night and it wasn't horrible, but again I didn't get this for cinema sound I got it so I could actually hear my TV and enjoy some shows and technical Youtube videos and I find this sound bar has the right sound for what I wanted and am happy with it. Setup was simple enough, just plug it into the TV, and being about 20" fit pefectly on my TV stand below my 32 inch panel. I don't have the TV mounted to the wall, but this would be just as easy to mount if needed, looking at.
Overall for my useage case to get improved sound in my bedroom for late night viewing I couldn't be happier with this little bar.

Cheap Wi-Fi 7 Access Pioints for me.
on January 20, 2025
Posted by: OmieOne
Setup:
They have tried to make setup simple by using an App on your phone. I'm really not a fan of that, because they don't always support these applications for long term, that said, setting it up via the application wasn't an issue, but also you need an android or an apple device with Internet ahead of time to do this, and I've been in instances where that wasn't possible. I would prefer a secondary method in the instructions to do it via ethernet, and maybe it is possible, but it wasn't clear from the directions or the website. You then just need to place where it makes sense for your house. In my test
while the newer Wi-FI 7 protocols did much better on the backhaul, it still wasn't great for the way my house is built, which is why I need a mesh system. That is why I have some wired ethernet ports in the house and the Deco supports wired backhaul with 2.5 Gigabit it was perfect and I was getting great speed from them and coverage as I expected.
Deco Pods:
Once it was setup, which the application does a good job of walking you through you can start using it. While this is Wi-Fi 7, and has two 2.5 Gigabit network connections as well, it does have the 6Ghz band, and while that Band is limited distance, it is high speed and nothing yet is on it and would have been a nice touch to round this out. However the 2.5 Gigabit, and having two is awesome because as a backhaul it can cover must of the speed of the wireless and it gives you a secondary port for either local access in the room. So the design is great for small pods. The Firmwire is based on WRT so the bones are solid, however its been heavily modified for the pods as normal OpenWRT will not fit due to lack of RAM. Overall the performance was great and the improved wi-fi 7 protocol seemed to stablize some of my IoT devices as well. The kids and significant other have been happy with them.
If you don't mind the app setup and want something simple to cover your house in Wi-Fi this will do the job, but I can't speak to the router performance as I used this is wireless access points and a mesh not as my full internet solution. As AP's I have no compliants. Solid overall.

HMD Vibe gives you smooth performance, even while running multiple apps, for up to 2 days between charges. And it does this for less than you’d expect. It’s not lacking in the camera department, either – thanks to advanced AI modes, all you have to do is strike a pose, snap away and share.

Excellent daily driver
on January 6, 2025
Posted by: OmieOne
I've been a fan of HMD phones for a long time, as they were the ODM for Nokia the last few years. This is continuing in that tradition. A simple phone with modest specs that will work well as a daily driver phone, without all the unnecessary extras or features honestly you won't use much on a daily phone.
Setup is easy, pop out nano-SIM tray, add your nano-SIM and microSD card if using, slide it in and turn on. Switching SIMS on my carrier cricket is no fuss, and no different here on this phone. Google has made transferring your stuff easy, just follow along with the prompts and next thing you know you have your phone all set and ready. I do recommend checking for updates on Android as I had the Dec patch, and once that completed no issues using my applications on the phone.
Phone itself has a decent processor, and good amount of RAM, so app loading/switching is responsive. On the few calls I had no issues and the battery life is solid that I'm easily getting a day out of it, so no issues there. HMD is also good at having the size of the device open, so finding a case to protect from drops was no issue. Overall this is a perfect phone for someone who doesn't need a gaming computer in their pocket, but wants something they can use for GPS navigation, music listening and everything else. This i a great phone and very happy with it and I hope you will be too.

If you still have to have Internet service what do I need this thing for I already have a router

Well the two I can think of are: 1. If you need better/stronger wifi coverage throughout your house or 2. if you have newer devices that can use the AC wireless settings. With the Mu-Mimo, even if your devices don't support it, testing has shown that your over all wireless throughput will be better as the router can share the connection better with all devices.
