Cleans well, gently on clothes

Knowing full well that this machine takes much longer to do a lot has a lot to do with the satisfaction you'll have with this appliance.
My wife and I were intrigued by the machines we used in Europe recently and when our current w/d were wearing out we decided to try one of these combo units using condensing drying.
it does take between 2.5 and 3.5 hours to do most loads. While you can't necessarily have a marathon Saturday where you do all your laundry it's not at all impossible to get several loads done in a day.
Using the delay feature you can load it the night before and have clothes ready by morning followed by several more loads during the day.
A bonus is you can put a load in and leave for several hours to return home to them being done. There's no transferring clothes from one machine to another.
It also doesn't require a special plug or vent as you should already know by now. This can save on heating/cooling bills. Homes these days are being built tighter and tighter and using this machine will allow you not to have a 4 inch hole in the side of your house.
Its water and electricity use is rather low, as well. Over a full cycle it generally uses less than 3 kilowatt hours compared to a conventional washer and dryer that might use upwards of 6-8.
It also doesn't get as hot as a conventional dryer. This has its pluses and minuses. A major plus to me here is that the clothes aren't wearing as fast. Colors are staying longer and the fabric appears/feels less used. And it is true if you've read elsewhere that sometimes the clothes will feel slightly damp when the cycle is complete. If you remove the clothes right as the cycle ends i've found that the dampness leaves rather quickly as the cool. You could also get a small folding drying rack to temporarily hold the clothes while you're folding. In general everything comes out probably 95% dry or so and allowing the clothes to breathe for a minute tends to take the rest of the wetness out of them.
I would recommend this to a friend!

If the lint is expelled through the waste hose, do you need to clean the screen/where it comes out?

If the unit is mounted against the wall, how do you clean this without moving or getting behind the unit?
the vast majority of the link collects on the rubber door seal. when a load finishes, dampen a cloth and wipe all the lint onto the cloth.

there's also a water outlet filter in the bottom of the unit but it doesn't trap a meaningful amount of lint.

Is there a special power cord needed for this unit, or does one come with it?

Would this combo unit be sufficient for a family of 5?

if you spaced the loads out, probably. it also has delayed start so you can have clothes finish as you wake up or come home from work.

Loads take 3-3.5 hours. if you plan accordingly and want it to work, it will work. if you go into it thinking it's going to fail then definitely look elsewhere.

Washer use only

I rarely use a dryer but like the idea of space saving this machine could provide. Can the washer be used without the dryer feature?
yes

Does it need a sink? How much space does it need at the back?

Hi there, I live in a townhouse and am very interested in this product. Before purchasing, I hope someone can help with my questions&concerns below:
1. Sink: We have the venting and water hook-ups for the normal separate washers and dryers. However, we do not have a sink in our closet. Can we hook this combo machine by using our water old hook-ups?
2. Space: The depth of our closet is 44 inches, is it enough space for this machine? How much space should I leave at the back?
3. Safety: I heard that this combo would go very hot when you are doing the laundry. It is safe if I close the door of the closet when I am doing the laundry?

Thanks a lot!
it doesn't need much depth in the back, just the regular hose hookups are fine.

sink? no, just a drain.

it gets warm or close to hot but nothing i would have ever considered dangerous. if you leave clothes on top of it the clothes will insulate the heat a bit but it's not going to be starting a fire any time soon
