No CNN or Travel Channel

Does not load up CNN or Travel channel.
I even have DirectNOW for $50 a month and 200 MB internet speed. And the new google wifi router.
I give up and will just go back to regular cable and pay the extra - for less hassle.
Cable/Satellite WINS.

I regret cutting my Directv

These online streaming services suck. I have 200 MB internet wifi and top of the line TV and equipment, professionally installed. I still get Lag when watching shows. And you can't watch CNN or most channels.
I compared Spectre on BLURAY vs Fire Stick and the picture HD quality is way better on traditional BluRay players. Online Streaming WILL NEVER be as GOOD!

AMAZING - sounds come from the ceiling & behind
on August 30, 2016
Posted by: sonytheoneandonly

I looked at expensive AV Receiver systems and planned to drill holes in my ceiling for speaker placement. But I thought to give this a try first.
All wireless and no receiver needed. Just place the speakers under the TV and behind the sofa, then plug it in and everything self configures automatically. The height of front speaker bar does fit under most TVs - 4 inches seems typical.
All speakers work with TV cable/satellite shows, gaming, DTS bluray, online streaming. The centers speakers are bigger than cheap soundbars, so the voices are loud and clear.
If you haven't heard an ATMOS bluray, then you been missing out as the sounds do come from behind, above and all around you and it's very loud with the subwoofer. If it's not an ATMOS bluray, such as a DTS bluray or even TV cable, then the 5.1 sound comes from the artificial surround sound mechanism and it does a good job of it.
The remote kind of sucks because they make it so small with fewer buttons nowadays. About the only complaint I have.

Good center channel for crisp, clearer sound
on August 17, 2016

Wow, for $700, this is a superb soundbar!
I tested it against 3 other soundbars, including the $2,000 Yamaha ATMOS soundbar (the gold standard), and this LG blows it away with clearer sound, more bass punch. I picked up on more sound details in movies and TV shows that I did not hear on other soundbars. I been missing out.
Slimmer soundbars lack large size mid range speakers, which gives you that center channel for clearer voice.
I use it for Directv HD, iPhone music, BluRay, PS4.

I blindfolded my wife to test the sound
on August 8, 2016
Posted by: sonytheoneandonly
from LA
I'm using this primarily for my new LG 1080 OLED TV. I experienced Dolby ATMOS in a local movie theater and I love the ceiling speakers and overall immersive sound. So, for home, I upgraded from a typical $300 sony 2.1 channel soundbar, which by the way, has been a great sound system for many years. This yamaha with subwoofer is $2,000. Here is what I experienced for $1,700 more:
- The bass is more evenly distributed, less echo and less chaotic rumble through my living room, more crisp.
- The voice is sharper, louder and more centered.
- Overall, a richer surround sound experience.
- However, you will not hear precise sounds above or behind you, as you would assume with the marketing of ATMOS.
I blindfolded my wife and tested both the sony soundbar and this Yamaha on the same scenes in Transformers 4. All I had to do was switch the HDMI cable on the soundbars back and forth. The Yamaha was no doubt, sound immersive and crisper. You feel the sound into your bones.
But is it worth the extra $1,700 over a typical soundbar?
I watch primarily DirecTV, since it has a superior HD compression method than over cable, and some BluRays. The richer sound is very noticeable on BluRays that have the words DOLBY ATMOS on the disc. For regular TV, like ESPN, I don't think you will hear a huge difference, since the new Genie boxes uses the Dolby TrueHD format, not ATMOS. But, overall, a $300 soundbar is a good choice for surround sound. You pay extra just to be an early adopter and for an uptick in sound. I docked 1 star because the price should be under $1,200, not $1,599, considering the subwoofer is not included.
Side Notes:
- I noticed half of BluRays will have the competing DTS sound format, not Dolby. Fast and Furious 7 is DTS, and Transformers is Dolby ATMOS. They both sound great. The new Samsung ATMOS soundbar does not support DTS - just FYI.
- I bought a $180 Sony 115w subwoofer and it works great with plenty of bass. Since the subwoofer is suppose to sit 3 feet to the side of your TV, I just plugged in an RCA cable. You don't need to go wireless!
However, I found a problem. Only Yamaha subwoofers have the integration feature thats allows the sub to turn on / off along with the TV remote by ARC connection. Using other than Yamaha subs, your sub will be left on and wasting electricity and shortening it's life span. I just ordered the $399 Yamaha NS-SW200PN. The cheaper Yamaha that sells for $120, have reviews knocking it's music playback capabilities, which requires more power. The $249 Yamaha that looks like a mini sub, lacks a crossover frequency control knob. So, I am stuck with another overpriced Yamaha product for $399, just so I can turn it off along with my TV.
- The 5600 setup process takes over an hour. You have to read the instructions to the T and re-read it several times, if you are not a techie type.

Better than 4K
on February 27, 2016
Posted by: sonytheoneandonly
from LA
I returned the oled 4K because directv shows were fuzzy, as a result of upscaling 720 to 4k. Most tv shows are 720 especially espn, ABC, Travel channel.
This 1080 TV upscales perfectly. The black pixels are black, not dark grey.
The curve is not an issue after getting use to it.
4K will phase out and get replaced by 8K soon. But my new TV should be fine for the next 3 years.

Not good for Directv / Cable
on January 30, 2016
Posted by: sonytheoneandonly
from LA
98% of my TV show watching is on cable/satellite, not on online streaming. My TV shows on travel channel, espn, HBO, are blurry on this 4k. I put it side by side with my 5 year old 1080p and the 1080p wins by a huge margin.
I found out after I bought this 4k, that most TV shows and sports are 720p and when upscaled to 4k, the conversion makes it worse. I'm not sure if these TV shows plans to show it on 4k in the future. I doubt it.
And directv told me that they do not support this model where they have some 4k content. Their website lists out the brands they support.
I might have to return this to get a new 1080p OLED instead.

TrueHD & DTS via HDMI
on January 5, 2015
Posted by: sonytheoneandonly
from LA
My old 4 year old samsung soundbar lacked an HDMI port, only optical.
The biggest difference is that HDMI can pass higher-resolution audio, including the formats found on Blu-ray: Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. These formats can't get transmitted across optical. Newer BluRay movies are going HD audio. I compared both while watching Transformers 4 and this soundbar via HDMI sounds like IMAX theater quality. 300W is plenty bass for smaller rooms. For larger homes, the 330W for $150 bucks more is better.
The remote has all the settings with a designated button rather than a menu to scroll through. My favorite button is called "Night" where it reduces the bass and increases voice for better late night noise reduction for the neighbors.
This soundbar is the shortest in height so it fits in front of the TV without blocking it.
The bluetooth via iPhone iTunes works great and easy. It's controlled through airplay.

not BLU RAY quality
on July 15, 2014

I'm a regular blu ray user and experience great quality when renting through redbox, netflix.
This 300 has too many visible pixels and was grainy. I suspect the up conversion was poorly done.
I googled this issue and found that each blu ray development is done with differently quality results.
What's great about it: Classic movies
What's not so great: bluray conversion poorly done

I thought I would save a bundle with this samsung but after some use, I felt cheated on the graphics and screen quality. I gave in and forked out more $ for an iPad Retina since I read eBooks and edit photos.
As I get older, my eyes need higher resolution. This samsung is great for kids for games and such.
The samsung Note had much better graphics though.

Best Future Proof Soundbar

Pros:
7.1.2-channel multi-dimensional sound
Full Support of 4K 60p UHD and HDCP 2.2
46 speaker ATMOS / DTS:X
Continually Upgraded By Firmware
HDMI 2.0a Upgraded By Firmware
Future Proof
Cons:
Would Recommend Spending the extra Money for the Mount, Wireless adapter and Sub woofer - all add to the cost but worth it and still less than a receiver and Dolby ATMOS system

LG - 7.1-Channel Soundbar
By Jimbo from Austin, TX
This soundbar is awesome! Both sound clarity and subwoofer produce a great all around sound. The only issue I have and haven't figured out is there is a popping sound between movies and commercials (segments). It can be annoying sometimes but hopefully someone has an answer. Great system with overall watt output!

Really wanted this to work
By Rays
We were looking to pick a Home Theater for our apartment and we walked into the Magnolia home theater VA Beach store to check out some of the models we had shortlisted (which included Def tech, Sonos and Yamaha to name a few). We saw a demo of the Samsung K 850 and we were blown away with the crystal clear sound in the open area of Best Buy. We finalized the K950 and BB were helpful to do a 'Ship to store' service.
After an agonizing 3 nights my K950 was ready for pickup. I rushed to BB to pick up my K950 and couldn't wait to unbox it.
Unboxing didn't give me a great first impression. First, the box was slightly damaged with few rips. All the online reviews claimed there had to be a free Demo Blu-Ray(to experience True Dolby-Atmos). In the box I received, I couldn't find any. Most importantly I was not informed that Dolby-Atmos was not supported without the ARC. I own a Plasma tv released in 2009 and unfortunately mine doesn't support HDMI-ARC. This was a big letdown. I still was sincerely hoping this would somehow work.
After connecting everything i realized that the woofer light and the rear speakers' lights were still blinking. I tried connecting through the app and it kept flashing a message that no speakers were found. I contacted Samsung and they confirmed that this could be a faulty unit.
I returned to BestBuy, who promptly refunded my money. So if you are looking to buy this, don't buy it online(In order to avoid the hassle of returning). I felt the packaging was definitely a letdown for the price we pay and for optical cable the sound from the sound bar itself was very flat. I ended up picking the Def tech Wstudio Micro. I love that and it's a shame that my K950 wouldn't work. I learnt from Eric at the store that another gentleman had to return his unit due to the woofer dropping often. Maybe Samsung rushed our Shipment without doing due diligence. They have to take it back to the lab for more testing. This has potential but not the results.
