I have to confess that I am a long time Marantz fan (owned an earlier receiver with the champagne gold faceplate and flywheel tuner). I have also owned some pretty high end stuff in the past (Proceed, Lexicon), and like equipment dedicated to delivering a quality experience. I can say that this receiver really delivers in its price point. First the sound. Magnolia listening studio has the ability to switch between receivers for side by side comparison of the sonic experience. The lower priced Marantz had a clean sound but was lacked punch and presence when pressed. The Yamaha sounded too warm to my ear (though others will prefer it). The Denon was in second place but was more expensive for a less satisfying sound. The SR5011 sounds natural and at ease with everything I've thrown at it which is quite remarkable for having only a single amp onboard. Setup is relatively easy but I am still working through some of the configurations to optimize the features. With HDMI ARC, connecting to the TV is a single wire. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to get any sound from the streaming web apps on my Samsung TV (such as Pandora or Amazon). Another cool feature is the smart phone app that can control the unit from your phone (which is better than the physical remote actually) The only thing I don't like about this unit is the tiny periscope display on the front panel. There's no way to read it from the couch and it looks kinda gimmicky. Also, Pandora and Marantz are currently not working with each other. As of this writing, Marantz website says they are working to resolve their issues.
If you are unfamiliar with Marantz, give it a test drive. It's an outstanding brand and the SR5011 is the best in class at this price.
