Great concept but poor execution in some ways

Compatible with...:PC
As the summary says its a great concept but my two weeks experience so far is that the device either hangs up or does not allow full function at times. As one example I have to reboot my PC to get rid of what appears to be terminated past sessions which block resign ons. Performance has been vastly improved from past efforts but the lack of overall stability leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I look forward to software improvements that will remedy my experience. On the other hand the smartware backup software acts flawlessly but my primary objective was convenient sharing of data among remote collaborators and that is not yet bullet proof.
What's great about it: The ability to share data with remote users and slick backup for local data
What's not so great: Poor apps and somewhat unstable operation for remote operations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Best Value Phone Available Today
April 12, 2016
Just compare $30 to $650 for an unlocked Iphone to see this as the steal it is. All you need is a free SIM card from your network supplier to run it on any net. You can use it as a neat WiFi only phone and use Skype, etc to make real calls. When my two year Iphone contract on ATT expires I plan on dropping it and just go with the 640 as the Win apps are "good enough" in most cases. The fact it has a MicroSD storage means it has unlimited photo capacity as well as needed documents that you might want to carry with you. I'm not sure if MSFT is trying to get some catch up in volumes with the model but they got my business and when you look at the facts yours might be next..............

Excellent chromebook, but ...
By briank
The Acer 14 Chromebook is an excellent chrome book, but don't expect it to perform identically to a conventional laptop. It doesn't handle multiple open web pages or multitasking nearly as well as an admittedly more expensive HP Pavillion did. I really like the quicker start-up and easy reset when it glitches. Don't care for the small flash memory or its tendency to sometimes lock up when 0 seconds are left on a large download. Keyboard is full size and has a nice feel to it. Metallic case seems sturdier than most. Wish it had an SD card slot for extra on-board memory like many other models. Both of the USB slots are USB-3 though, so external hard drives are not too slow as an alternative. Be aware that they tend to not want to disconnect properly when you are done using them. I found the solution online. If you sign out, then sign back in, they will (so far) always disconnect normally by clicking the icon. I never had this problem with a windows operating system, but it is apparently not that unusual with some chrome books. Very good angles of view on HD screen. Overall seems like a good value for the price, if you are willing to adapt to the occasionally odd behavior.

Outstanding, Simplistic Piece of Technology
By Jeskamme
I purchased my HP Chromebook version 3.1.6, when I was a Junior in high school, to keep up with my online classes and essays, that was a little over two years ago, and it is still in amazing condition, helping me through college. While the HP Chromebook may not be suitable for all people, because of it’s downloading properties or battery life, It is the perfect fit for students or users of simple internet activity, with it’s functionality and ease of transport due to it being a lightweight laptop.
The HP Chromebook operates with a Chrome OS system created by Google. It is processed my Intel, which also supports the graphics. It has 2GB of memory and a 16GB hard drive, and also connected with Google Drive. The battery life fully charged usually lasts up to 9 hours and 15 minutes, which is pretty average. It includes many useful ports, such as, 2 USB port, HDMI, and a headphone jack on the left side. On the right side, there is another USB port, a place to insert a memory card for alternative storage, and a charger port. It also includes a front facing HD Webcam.
In order to use any program on the laptop, you must be connected to internet access, which may be a downfall for those who may not be able to stay connected at all times. You are not able to download alternate softwares or any other programs that are not provided in the Google App Store, examples of printer softwares or gaming programs, since the operating system does not support it and there is also no disc drive. The white exterior is also a bit difficult to keep clean, my once white laptop has become quite grey. Although there are some disadvantages, this is my favorite laptop I have ever used. As a student and not the most extravagant internet user, it has everything I need, and all programs are connected with my google account, so I am able to pull my work up on any device, as soon as I login to my account. It is also almost impossible to contract any viruses, because of it’s strong firewalls and inability to download programs harmful to it’s operating system. It is a breeze when transporting it when I need to, because of it’s lightweight. I have never found a problem with having to be connected to internet, since wifi is usually present everywhere I go. I have found something difficult is printing from my laptop, I am unable to download my printer’s software, so I have to use my desktop, if you have a printer that offers aircloud, then this laptop will be compatible with it. It gets the job done and I have never been dissatisfied with it’s capabilities.
Overall, if you're a simplistic person when it comes to technology, this is the perfect fit for you. It was also an amazing deal. I bought mine new and it ran me about $300.00, which was a great investment for how many assignments and tasks it has gotten me through. It’s a fast laptop that has always met all of my expectations. Although, I have difficulty printing from this laptop, I have never had any major disadvantages while using it.

New Age Client Device
November 9, 2016
You will be very happy with this version of the CB with its 4GB and full HD screen from HP.
Some hints on usage especially printing and storage. Best print option is to buy a wireless google printer certified device which can be less than $50. If mobile and no printers available you can setup a home Windows PC as a google print server and sent it to it when you return home. Also change the default download location to Google drive from the local 16GB ssd that way you will have unlimited storage and can reach it with any device.
Later this year Google will enable a release of chrome os for this model that will allow you to download from google play any of the 2 million android apps which will allow unlimited offline usage and apps like skype. In 2017 google will release a new Os Andromeda which combines chrome Os with android. At this point its unclear if these legacy chromebooks will have a migration path to use this new Os but have no fear will google will continue to upgrade the classic chrome os.
Happy chromebooking for all the new age user device that only gets better for free with time...............

So far, So good
By BlueOctober4
I have had this Chromebook now for just over 24 hours. I had watched many videos and reviews leading up to the release date and was excited to purchase this device. For my needs, this is a perfect device. The display is great for video, the stylus is smooth and access to the Google Play store is what sold me. All the apps I use regularly on my Android phone I can put onto the Chromebook.
I debated between waiting for the Pro or getting the Plus, so far I have not had any issue with power or lag with the processor. We will see if this changes as time goes on.
The Keyboard is fine but not great. The speakers are really bad, but that doesn't bother me much because I normally use headphones or a bluetooth speaker.
Overall, I'm really happy with this Chromebook. Best Chromebook to date. Also, a nice bonus is you get 100GB of free Google Drive space for 2 years.

Most Capable Chromebook so far but one caveat WiFi
March 29, 2017
I have had a 13 in. Toshiba chromebook for years but its not on the upgrade list for android apps therefore got this one. The net to me as a google infrastructure user is that this is the value equivalent of apple ipad pro and msft surface. I especially like the pen for screen capture notation. When you undock the pen it lets you do a screen grad, annotate it in google hold and then ship it out like no other. The screen is superb and its touch perfect to replace your tablet with vivid images and touch.
The biggest caveat is that unlike my Toshiba it does not have the wifi range and therefore I am returning it since half my house is now out of range or it drops connectivity. The android apps with offline capability are an offset but I want both.
