Great When it Worked

We bought it just before we moved into our house. I tested it with the tv it was go go with and with our cable box to make sure that it would work. it worked alright, but I should have known it wouldn't work when I was getting a lot of breakup on the tv from maybe 25 ft away and one other room in between. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, and tried it at the house. It seemed to work fine during the first few days. We had a few flash outs over the course of our first week in the house, I figured it to be wireless interference do to it looking like it was switching channels. Flash forward to this weekend, Saturday morning we were watching a movie. Within the 2 hours of the movie, it blanked out over 50 times. I unplugged it and gave it about 30 min to cool down, to still have the same problem happen again. I swung it back to best buy and grabbed the actiontec wireless HDMI kit. Its about $25 less, and works a lot better.
What's great about it: wireless HDMI, powered by the TV
What's not so great: Reliability, build material, range
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nightmare to install

I use it in...:Small home
I picked it up from Best Buy, was in and out of the store in a matter of minutes, the staff had a great manner and prompt response. I got it home and first tried homeplugs, they didn't work (that was something I already considered, your house electric wiring has to be perfect or they wont work). upon realizing that the homeplugs wouldn't work, I set out running CAT-5 from the router to the unit (about 100-150 feet). For some unknown reason, this still didn't work, I tried troubleshooting for the rest of the day/evening. so I hooked up my laptop to see if something was wrong with the wire. I let my laptop ping out to 3 different websites over night (about 10 hours) with one timeout. Took it back to Best Buy (again, the staff was great) where they promptly swapped it for another unit. upon getting that one home, I hooked it up and had the same problem. After finally getting it up and running (on network) I realized that remote viewing wasn't working. I went through all the troubleshooting again (this time with one of the live chat people) for 2.5 hours, at which point, they asked if the computer was on the same network. I replied that it was, and the given distance from the router. After 2 full days of messing with this thing, I was THEN told that the slingbox has to be withing 50 feet of the router. Could they have not put that piece of info SOMEWHERE within the setup instructions and/or troubleshooting guides? the normal limit of networking with CAT-5 is 328 feet, so a little clarity from the get-go would have been good. I would recommend it to a friend, but would be sure to warn them about the distance limitations
What's great about it: it works (finally)
What's not so great: distance it can be from the router (50 feet), there is about a 10 second delay while on the same network
I would recommend this to a friend!

Dual viewing options

Can two people in different locations watch content simultaneously if:
- person a is watching regular tv in location A.
and
- person b is watching via Slingbox in location B.?

Thanks and regards
they can not watch the same box on 2 different channels, they would have to be on 2 different tvs or watch the same thing. you could watch the same thing, the person with the slingbox will have a delay in the show

if I add a sling box to my sons tv, can I pick up a tv signal in another state with my ipad and be able to watch different channels from what my son may be watching?
not if your son wants to watch on his tv. slingbox acts as a throughput, so you two would be watching the same thing. you can remotely access the slingbox from anywhere so long as you have internet connection on the device you are watching on

How does Slingbox 350 integrate with TiVo?

Home Setup: I have a wireless LAN setup. I do not have any cable or dish connections to my smart TV. My lifelong service with TiVo allows me to view quite a few channels, and stream, both in HD.
Q 1: Does Slingbox integrate with TiVo?
Q 2: Do I connect Slingbox to my TiVo Unit, If so, how?
Q 3: Can I connect Slingbox to my wireless network and use Slingbox with this setup? If so, how?
Thank you for your time and expertise. It is much appreciated.
Regards,
LAN
1) yes, it should 2) you would hook the output of the tivo to the input of the slingbox, than the output of the slingbox to the input of the tv. (I would personally use the component, as slingbox doesn't support HDCP [it's a new security for HDMI]) 3) the slingbox 500 has wifi built in, the 350 you would have to run ethernet to the slingbox (be careful, because it can only be a max run of 50 feet)

What is slingplayer software? where do you get that?

slingplayer software can be found on slingbox's website, but if you have the 350, the software won't work with it. the 350 uses streaming video from the website. if you're going to view it, you just log into the website with the email and password you set up during installation, but if you can't access it remotely, make sure that the box has a public IP (from the same network log in, and it is under the slingbox settings on the right, it will say network settings). I had this problem yesterday myself, if it doesn't have a public IP, make sure that the slingbox is within 50 feet of the router (they told me that last night when I was having trouble setting up mine). if you have any more questions, just ask
