After blowing away my HT budget on just the ML speakers, it was to late to cheap out on the receiver. I listened to several in the Magnolia room powering the 40's and found the 1030 sounded as good or better than some pricier competitors. Yamaha has always maintained solid products that'll last for years and that helped with my decision. Set-up was a breeze (once I figured out the techy jargon!) with on screen display. It even worked with my cable remote without me doing any programming! I was also able to bi-amp my fronts using it's dedicated outputs and haven't even looked through the instructions yet! I'm far from being a tech, so if I can do it, you can to. I'm very impressed with this and my 3.1 speaker system for now and appreciate the option to add many more speakers and another sub in the future if desired. So do a little research, give it a listen, add your quality speakers and wires, and enjoy it. I do!

Enjoy clear, crisp sound with this MartinLogan Motion 40 MO40GBL 6-1/2" floor speaker that features a 1" x 1-1/2" Folded Motion tweeter, dual 6-1/2" woofers and a 5-1/2" midrange for a complete range of sounds.

I went to BB to put together a moderate Klipsch 5.1 system but they sounded to 'tinny' to me. I increased the budget, decided on just a good 3.1 'front stage' system and went to Magnolia, entertaining the ML ESL's. Their 'sweet spot' is amazing, but it's to small for my multi position seating area. My only option was traditional towers for my intended purpose. I included B&W to compare with the ML 40's and the 40's just sounded better to me. The 40's also included a free ML 500 sub. After bringing them home I'm certain I made the right choice and they're even better after adding the 30 center to compliment them. I now have a solid system that can only be upgraded by adding speakers, not replacing them. Now that's a worthy value!

I got this with the purchase of Motion 40's. I would have chosen one of it's bigger brothers for my large, open floor plan or possibly a 2nd one. Don't let the size fool you because it fills my area with sharp clear bass. My use is 50/50 music/TV and have it adjusted mid-way for very pleasing low levels. My only minor complaint is the finish isn't the same as the 40's, but most hide their subs anyway.

how do wired speakers hook up? looks like no wire terminals present?
I have a good set of speakers using bare wire connection. Photo shows only RCA jack outputs?? How could I hook up my speakers to this
You can purchase 'banana' style terminals for your speaker wires which give easy connection. Though looking at the photo, the red and black pieces for the speakers appear to be knurled which means they possibly can be adjusted for 'spade' type terminals or bare wired. The RCA jacks seem to be inputs from other equipment.

You may be mistaking the power output and input. The input power is the power from the wall outlet to the receiver, which is normally 60hz in the US and many other countries. The output power goes to the speakers and spec's would read 40hz-20khz (or similar).
