Amazing - Works With Amazon Echo
on August 30, 2016

If you're just starting into the world of Home Automation, your best first purchase would be the Lutron Caseta dimmer kit with hub. You'll be able to control your home lights with a remote control, but when you get addicted to this you'll want to quickly step up to the Amazon Echo so you can control them via voice. I can tell her to turn on/off all lights, or just individual ones. You can setup groups within Amazon Echo for different lights as well (i.e. create lighting zones).
After starting with the Belkin WeMo light switches, these blow them out of the water because they are dimmable. I moved on to the Lowes Iris system b/c I basically got the starter kit for free (was on sale for $99 but I had gift cards). It is awesome b/c it came with a wireless thermostat and now that Lowes has integrated with Amazon Echo I can control z-wave switches & outlets plus the thermostat via voice.
I would recommend anybody to go with a Samsung SmartThings hub instead, but if you get the opportunity to get the Iris starter kit w/thermostat for $99 (super sale a long time ago) then go with it b/c the value can't be beat. The Lutron Caseta switches work with the SmartThings but not Iris, but who cares?! Now that Amazon Echo works directly with Lutron I can control everything I need to.

PERFECT REFRIGERATOR FOR GROWING FAMILY
on August 2, 2016

With two kids under 3yo having enough refrigerator space for kids & adults can be difficult. Samsung solves this problem by taking half the freezer space and enabling it to become a refrigerator.
This is super fantastic as now we have what I call a college dorm fridge on the bottom right with the normal food stuffs going into the main refrigerator cabinet on top. Beer in the bottom, food in the top!
Once the kids get a bit older and can get snacks out for themselves we'll put the snacky stuff in the door on the bottom for them to grab.
Right now my 2.5yo daughter loves to go into the freezer at night to get "my fruit pop." Super cute, even if half the time I have to tell her to put it back, which she does without complaining (great kid).
I think all refrigerators should come with a split freezer like this one because really, the way these bottom doors are laid out, everything that fit into the freezer of our old 25sqft refrigerator fits quite neatly into the bottom left door of this new one.
The polished handles are really the only part that shows fingerprints which need to be wiped off daily with a microfiber cloth and filtered water from the fridge itself. Cleans right up!
Perfect refrigerator for us. Purchased the 5 year extended warranty just to be safe. If you have a refrigerator space problem then this fridge is for you!

Perfect For Projector / Amplifier / Fire TV Stick
on August 1, 2016
Posted by: Computergiant
Works excellent for my Epson 3010 projector, Logitech Z906 surround sound system, Amazon Fire TV Stick, PS4, AT&T Uverse TV subscription, monoprice 7974 HDMI switcher w/Toslink output and my eRod motorized curtains.
Setup took about 1 hour. Now I have 3 activities: Watch Fire TV, Watch TV and Play PS4. The projector is turned on and set to HDMI 1 (always HDMI 1, but this double checks it), the appropriate input is selected on my Monoprice HDMI switcher (1 for TV, 2 for Amazon Fire TV Stick, 4 for PS4), the Logitech surround sound is turned on and set to the appropriate input (always 3 since sound comes from the toslink output of the monoprice HDMI switcher) and the eRod motorized curtains are told to close.
Shutting everything off is super easy with one click of the off button.
I also programmed the dots on the lower left of the number keypad to control the curtains: short press opens them and a long press closes them.
Going to add some Philips Hue lighting to dim my LED strip lights mounted to the eRod curtain rod.
Works perfectly! Couldn't be happier and saved $200 by not purchasing the Elite controller. Used the $50 trade in credit to bring the price down as well. Thanks Logitech & Best Buy!

How much space (width) would I need if 1 side was against a wall - i.e. it's in a corner. How wide would space be to open door on wall side straight

You could open it 90 degrees if it is slammed next to the wall, which probably wouldn't allow you to pull out the drawers on the bottom. To do that you'll probably need at least 6-8" away from the wall

what is the difference between this and last year's model. also what does the wifi do

Difference is the showcase door (last year's doesn't have that), along with the metal cooling used in the showcase door and on the back wall of the fridge. It supposedly keeps the door temperature closer to the main fridge body which was a problem in last year's model. Wifi does stupid stuff like alert you if the door is left open. It also does supply diagnostic information if you have a problem and can submit it to Samsung automatically, so that is valuable.

What does the wifi feature do

Stupid stuff like tell you if you left the door open. But it does show self diagnosis information as well, so that is valuable if you have a problem with it. Pretty much worthless IMO.

CAN EITHER OF THE LOWER SECTIONS SERVE AS A REFRIGERATOR RATHER THAN A FREEZER

Yes, the lower right door is a "flex-zone" which can be a freezer, a fridge and another setting that is inbetween.

Is the remote backlit?

No. But I didn't have a problem picking out the keys in low light.
