Poor installation: missing parts, damaged parts
on January 20, 2014

from Dallas, TX
I purchased my 2014 Jeep Wrangler on 12/24/2014. I went to Best Buy, Store #54 (2701 N. Mesquite Dr., Mesquite, TX) on 01/05/2014 and spoke with Cody, who was very professional and helpful. I then ordered the following:
Viper 5806V
5 Actuators
All required wiring harnesses and hardware.
Labor to install all equipment
I paid $1,002.27 for products and services and scheduled an installation appointment for 01/15/2014.
However, when I arrived for appointment time (10:45 am for the 11:00 am appointment) on 01/15/2014, I met Matt R. Matt could not give me his undivided attention because he was busy inserting and removing his ear bud.
While Matt boasted about how he has 15 years of experience over Cody and can do a better job than Cody, he seemed discourteous and said that he was uncertain if he will be able to install the rear actuator. Matt said that he didn’t even know how to access the inner components as he looked at the door. He never asked me key questions, such as where would I wish to have my valet button mounted. I had to specify. He also did not give me the option to wait for the installation, as I’ve seen other customers wait for their installations. Matt just told me that he will call me once the installation was complete.
I returned to Best Buy at 4:30 pm just to see how everything was progressing. I sat and looked my vehicle parked outside from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm. At 5:00 pm, Matt finally called me and said that he had just finished my vehicle.
Matt said the following:
He had to order additional parts to install the actuators (in addition to what I had previously ordered).
He was unable to install the rear door actuator because the rear door was not designed for it.
He showed me how to arm, disarm, and remotely start the vehicle. Matt expressed his displeasure, informing me that he was supposed to have gotten off at 2:00 pm but had to work over on my vehicle. He also said that Cody should never have scheduled me and that my Wrangler is that last Jeep Wrangler that they will ever work on. Matt never discussed programming features with me. I am unable to lock my doors while driving.
Upon returning home, I inspected the vehicle in detail and found the following (with supporting photos):
The hood-switch wire was too short for me to raise the hood fully
The doors were hardwired in, so now I am unable to remove the doors; Matt has now eliminated a feature without having consulted me.
The carpet retainer nuts for the front floorboard were missing; one was just sitting on the floorboard, unattached.
The driver door gasket was not secured, and the securing pin was exposed.
Wires attached under the dash were not tucked in but left to interfere with foot well space.
Both front door panels were not secured; the pins were not completely secured. There was a gap in the front passenger door.
The carpet lining at the base of the right rear door pillar was not secured, and wires were exposed.
There were gouge marks around trim pins where it was evident that Matt had used a screwdriver to remove the pins rather than the proper tool.
The Silent Arm feature does not work.
My horn sounds with certain features but not others—inconsistent with the user guide.
I took my brand new vehicle to what I thought was a reputable, professional installer. I ultimately paid over $1,000 to have someone tear up my vehicle, thus showing no respect for my vehicle or me. It makes me wonder what else he had done incorrectly that I can’t see. I needed an authorized Viper dealer to install the system to keep the lifetime warranty. I am not only displeased with the rude and poor service from Matt, but I am also angered that Matt found it necessary to tear up my vehicle and return it to me with missing parts.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
