Blu-Ray players have come a long way

This is probably my 5th Bluray player, now stepping up to 4k (I have 5 4k TV's). My first observation was how much faster the processing os the disk was; in under 2s thes display was ready to go, compared to early BluRays that too way over 10s to get ready this was a pleasant start. The remote is nearly identical to the remote's LG has been using for years, which it was back lit, but it's not, learned to live with it.
Initially watched the Std version of King Kong (Jack Black and cast) and this player delivered a better, more crisp image, darker blacks, cleaner shadows than my existing DB670, did from the same disk, this player not only handles 4K material well it also improves conventional BluRay disks another plus, I was not sure I'd be able to see. I also think the sound was cleaner, but this is pretty subjective.

Then on to The Ultra Disk version of King Kong (Jack Black and new Skull Island). At first it was a little underwhelming, what I'd just seen looked great, I'd maybe expected the 4K version to be so much better (on a 65" Sony X900e), well initially is was just better, but as the action got more intense the quality of fast moving images the picture improved, they we more three dimensional, the shadows had more content to them, the wide angle shots were gorgeous. With really no way to compare side by side images, the original blu ray, seemed flatter, the 4K version was voluptuous (in a good way) just more ripe with detail, Maybe when I eventually get a 4K projector it will be that much better on a 100" or 150" screen (I can certainly see where larger screens would benefit the most. Still the picture was engulfing, with some of the overhead shots feeling like you were there flying along.
The New King Kong Skull Island definitely benefited from improved animation and special effects, but not necessarily a better plot or characters, the Extended Edition of the jack a Black version was my favorite.
I then viewed the 4K version of Ghost in a Shell, again the colors and cinematography were out standing, and with the mvis have many "dark" scenes, this player and it's picture were outstanding. I'm officially a fan of 4K films. When I first thought about paying about ten dollars more per film, (about a 25% increase), I had to think twice; I'd hope this premium drops as the format gains wider acceptance, and as older films are re-released it looks like it will.
Do I like the LG-UP970, heck yes. It improves my existing collection of DVD's and BluRays (over 500), It's faster than previous BluRays, the built in WiFi and LG Smart app's are nice, but nothing new. The quality of the output from 4K disk, is new, and much more rich in color and texture than what was previously available. Put your 4K TV investment to work, give it some quality images in, and I;m sure you'll be please with what you see from the growing list of 4K films out there.

Great Concept for a new Product Category

These "neck phones" are unlike anything else I've tried. They fill a special need especially for people that find discomfort wearing earbuds after any period of time (myself included), or those that can't deal with the isolation that over the ears headphone bring. This product is an alternative.
At first I thought the sound was a little thin, then I discovered that by pressing and holding down the volume dial fro one second you can independently control the bass, mid and treble of the head phones; a mini equalizer built in - how unusual. After doing some adjusting I found a happy medium, much better than what I started with. Speaking of sound quality, these are pretty good considering the limitations you are dealing with. These are NOT as good and many of the good echo canceling head phones that cost over $250, but you can hear people talking to you with these on,and they are comfortable, you can wear them for hours and not really think about them. They weight just over 4 oz and rest comfortably on your collar bone. The first few time I used them it took me a while to find the right volume level, but it was largely a location, location issue, When using them with no background noise they needed to be a little lower, and with more background noise (my office with computer fans) they needed to be just a little louder, and have a bit more bass.
After listening to them with a variety of sources, I'm pleasantly impressed. I could listen effortlessly for hours, I'd kind of forgotten they were paired with my phone the first time a call came in and the sound muted and I could VERY clearly hear the caller (from one side); I'm told the microphone worked very well, I found it most natural. a great neck phone. With the speakers on I got over 7 hours of listening time, with the earbuds I'm told you get more than double the life.
Speaking of earbuds they are cleverly builtin to the front underside and automatically retract back in (like your seat belt does, but on a much thinner wire). The were pretty comfortable, and louder than I could possibly handle (you can turn them up too loud - but don't need to). The sound quality was excellent, and I could hear the effects of the dts surround more readily than I did with the speakers alone. That being said, different sources had a much different sound with the dts, the more I listened the more I could discern the different instruments sounding like they are in different sound stage (sounded more 3D). I find any good headphones exhibit this quality, it took me some listening time to find this with the neck phones.
I was originally give them 5 stars, but there are a couple of ergonomic issues that LG could improve upon to earn the additional star. My biggest issue is the buttons on the headphones look (and feel) alike. They should be different colors and different shape buttons so can associate a function with a feel/color. there are two buttons on the inside right and left, both the same color, shape and position. I found my self turning the phones off when I did not mean to and pressing an inside button when I meant to press an outside button. There a learning curve figuring out how the 7 different controls function (all are nice to have, but can be hard to use, it does get easier); but if had made them different colors and make them feel different it would be easier to keep track and remember what does what. Minus one star, not relating to sound quality, but improving the "user interface".
I think I'll enjoy biking with these on, where I can't safely use any other headphones, and maybe excising on an elliptical. I think they be too heavy to really run with, but they might be great for hiking where I don't want to shut out things I need to be observant of.
These are a different type of headphone, I'd not purchase them for the earbuds alone, but for the special functionality that personal speakers bring they do a good job, almost a great job. If you have the need I'd recommend them.

Nyne X-Series: "Rock"

First impressions: These thing is big, and loud.
I first compared the Nyne X series to the JBL Flip 3 - not a fair comparison in any way the Flip3 is 1/3 the cost, and they sounded that way. For close soft listening both are fine, but to fill my 16'x28' family room, the Flip was anemic and the Nyne held their own. Easily filling the room with a clean sound, maybe a little bass thin, but pretty darn good. I also have a set of older Kicker ik501s speakers that I've frequently used outdoors and at parties. I was pretty happy with them, until now. In comparison to the Nyne Rock the Kicker are getting the boot! What a difference, much more than I expected (both being about $200 speakers). The kicker's lacked midrange the richness and the sharp highs of the Nyne's. They had similar bass output, but that was about all, not nearly as bright. I tested on my "go to" speaker test music, Boston's first album and Pink Floyd's DSOTM. These speakers can get the volume level way up there.

I then took them outside, ant they again shined, again a clearly better sound than the Kickers. but out side I could tell that the highs were much more directional that I noticed indoors. The bass was still good but now the speaker was not on the floor (which boosted it's bass) being up higher, close to ear level improved the overall midrange of the speaker but diminished the bass, which was ok, when listening from 20-30' away the overall tone was great for a boom box of this size.
I've had a chance to use it outside on the week ends a couple of times, and I never got more than 8 hours of play time, but right around 8 streaming BT. While i'm on the BT issue, I compared BT to a wired connection, and was somewhat pleasantly surprised. As expected the wired sound was better, fuller than the BT, which distorted more quickly at higher volumes, and lacked some of the mid-range richness. I also happened to have a Chromecast Audio Streamer handy. So i plugged it into the wired connection and cast PF to the Nyne speaker. And I could not tell that it was wireless, the definition I found missing from the BT was fully restored.That being said I hope more manufactured will incorporate casting to their devices as well as BT. IMHO BT, from an iPhone (which I used as my source) is inferior to casting. I could get BT to work from about 50-60' before it got iffy, and I could cast from over 100' with no issues.
Back to the Nyne speaker, I have thousands of $s invested in my main home system, and the Nyne can't compare, but I can't haul it around on a handle;I probably can't fit it all in my car. So there are tradeoffs. I do have a surround sound system installed in my back yard, with Definitive Tech speakers, and the Nyne don't have the same bass or stereo separation, but I'm comparing nearly $1K in speakers and a $500 receiver. But they held their own, the Nyne's provided plenty of nice sounds, I'll bet I can still get my neighbor to complain about the volume of the Nyne's, although it won't be because the bass from my outdoor speakers shake the wall. The Nyne's are not going to shake the walls outside, but they will certainly be loud enough to suit most needs.
So I have better sounding speaker that are not portable, and I think casting is better than BT. Still I can happily recommend the Nyne "Rock" speakers, if you have room for them they will happily fill your room with nice sounds.

A great desktop Mouse

First off I could not get this mouse to recognised byall the various computers. Some with Win 10 worked others did not. Some with Win 7 worked other did not. Generally speaking the newer the computer the better the chance, but I still got a 8yr old Dell XPS to work where a newer Dell XPS would not. Go figure. But on the computer I did get it working on it was a real joy to use. It slid more effortlessly than my MS Arc (one of my favorite Mice). It's ability to connect to multiple devices via BT and their dongle is most convenient. But the ability to move from one computer to another via the selector on the bottom is very convenient (when your using multiple computers, like I do). I'd prefer to use BT over their dongle, given a choice. I tried this mouse on 8 computers and it was recognised on 5 of the 8.
The center scroll wheel has some weight to it, once moving it seems to pick up momentum (maybe electronice may be wheel) anyway I like it The programable buttons are an added plus, I programmed them to return to my home page and to open my email, with a single click (on multiple computers). Really cool, I'm sure that there are many other uses I'd not considered.
The mouse is pretty big, not problem fro a desktop, but I doubt I'd want to travel with it (with many smaller options). But it's been getting harder and harder to find a BT mouse that youd want to use on your desk day after day, and this one I would. So many BT mice are too small to use all day long. In this respect the MX Master 2S IS A CLEAR WINNER. If I'd not had connectivity problems with several computers I'd have given it 5 stars, but I had to deduct one star because I could not use BT on all my computers that supported BT.

Hope it improves

I have 3 high end routers in my home today, so it was easy fro me to compare the Samsung Home Connect Pro to my Netgear Nighthawk X6, and two Linksys systems, the Velop (3 pack) and MaxSteam (AC4000).
But first my install experience. First you must download their Samsung Connect app, nor problems. Then you must register, seems I have 2 accounts, so some minor issues, then you must select to add the hub. I had this hang several times before resetting the router and getting it to work. Then I had issues with the Connect Pro connecting to the internet. The First Switch I connected the Samsung to would not connect to the internet, I verified I could connect with other devices, but I could not get the Connect Pro to see the internet. The second switch I connected to worked fine the first time. Not sure what the issue was.
Then I compared performance (multiple times to be fair), my Nighthawk averaged 44mb down and 20mb up, The Velop averaged 35mb down and 25mb up, the MaxStream 30mb down and 30mb up and finally the Samsung (with SmartThings hub enabled) was 25mb down and 27mb up. The slowest of the 4 by quite a bit. I had hoped for much more. But the box clearly states that enabling the SmartThings hub will decrease performance - which it did.
Given my routers are faster, I'll probably just use this for home automation with SmartThings, I have over 50 lights, multiple motion detectors and an EcoBee connected to my existing system. But I started by trying to pair one of my existing Samsung SmartHub TV's with the SmartHub; and I could get neither to pair. It paired fine with my Samsung smart vacuum robot. and several lights, but the lights doe not have as much functionality with SmartThings (today) as they do with Wink. So I'll stick with wink and only use the SmartHub for things the Wink can't control.
I wanted to see the Connect Home Pro do better than it did, I love the concept of combining the router with the Home automation, as I have too many gateways now (5 now) . Hopefully future firmware releases will improve the Connect Home Pro, I know they will be releasing a version with multiple hubs linked together (like the Velop) soon. Maybe this will lead to improved performance. The distance I could get a wi-fi signal from the Samsung was as good as any of my other routers. I've not given up but I can't recommend it today.

First impression of the Bot in the Box, very impressive, it comes well packed with sufficient instructions to do things in the right order. First it says the POWERbot should be fully charged before first use. Since I needed to install the app first, I didn't think this was a big deal. In fact it said it was fully charged after about 60 minutes out of the box.
Installation of the app on iOS went fairly smoothly, the only hiccup I encountered was I could not get the POWERbot one of of my WiFi networks (I have 5, so using a different networks was not a big deal, and it worked fine immediately - never found out why the initial problem). The app is pretty minimal, I'd kind of expected more with regard to programming, and options, but the robot seems to have all the smarts it needs built in. Still I wish you could review where it had been and to possibly give it area to exclude. Maybe in another version.
How does Rosie clean? Really pretty darn well. I tested it in 3 separate areas. My main living area is tiled with hardwood floors and some oriental throw rugs, the orientals are pretty plush, being 3/4" to 1" tall. The POWERbot easily climbed up these rugs, increased it's power and vacuumed each efficiently. It did a great job under the toekicks in the kitchen, and it repeated each area at least twice, it ran for almost 90 minutes on normal. I have to say it makes a noticable amount of noise, but probably half the volume of a Roomba 770 (my Daughter has one, and you really can't listen to the television when it's in the room. Not that much of a problems with the POWERbot . That I see as a big plus.
I hav smaller drop rugs in my bathrooom that I was concerned would be a problem for the POWERbot , but it had no real issues, and and off the small rugs with out bunching them up. Another plus. And it's easy to empty and clean, the dust bin ejects easily and can be washed out with water, and the filter can be washed, another big plus, and they give you an extra one. My other surprise was when the POWERbot came to a two step (tiled) drop, it did not fall, it detected the drop over and over and stayed on the upper level.
The lower level is all tile with a bed room, after making sure there were no cords dangling on the floor, I watched it go back and forth under the bed where there was a tight squeeze but it managed quite well. A couple of small throw rugs were no problem again. it did a great job along the edges, better than expected.
I then tried in my upstairs, where I have some more orientals, this time with fringe, a possible concern, so I watched what happened and my concerns were well founded. The fringe got cought up in the brushes and jammed. I had to stop the POWERbot and back the fringe out, no harm, but I wouldn't try this on more expensive rugs. So for now I have to only use POWERbot in rooms without fringly rugs. For some this may be a bigger issue, but for me I'll probably only use it one area.
Yes it like a dancing bear, you'll watch it and be amazed for a while. It bumps into things VERY gently, as it "sees" then coming. I have alot of glass vases on my floors and the POWERbot touch each of them gently, not enought for be to be worried in the future. It much more quite than a roomba, and probably sucks stronger/smarter. It won't wake you up when it starts and stops like a roomba....I happy with my POWERbot (Rosie) wish I could teach it to avoid the fringe on my oriental rugs. But for now I just have to keep it away; (it does have magnetic "gates" you can use, maybe I'll try this around the fringe (not hopeful thought). But I do recommend my new friend Rosie (POWERbot 7070).

I work at home as software developer, I have over 60 devices connected to my "Home" network. Some of there are for my SmartHome, others Smart TV, and Streaming devices, a coupleos servers and Raid devices and about 20 notebooks and PC's. I've been running AC Wi-Fi with the Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000 in my 2 story 2800 sq ft house for almost 3 years. The Netgear is a AC3200 router and this Linksys EA9300 is a AC4000 router. Can I tell the difference, I have a 300mb Cox Internet link. Via a Ethernet connection the Netgear gets 293mb down and 33mb up. The Linksys gets 297mb down and 35mb up a slight advantage, but I'd have to call it a tie. Using a AC5G WiFi connection from about 10ft away the Netgear gets 145mb down and 32mb up. The Linksys gets 166mb down and 34mb up. A slight improvement. With a 2.4G connection the Netgear gets 21mb down and 33mb up (surprising). The Linksys gets 25mb down and 30mb up. Again a slight improvement.
I found both routers AC5G speeds drop significantly with distance; at 40ft both were about 75mb up & 25mb down and at 75ft 30mb/20mb - which WAS the same speed I got from 2.4G at 75ft. Clearly AC rules at shorter distances but over 100ft 2.4G is still more reliable. So don't expect to get full AC speed at longer distances. This where having a single network name supporting all network types would be a big advantage. A big Linksys+
The Linksys allows me to name all my networks the same name (2G & 5G) this simplifies connections as it automatically choose the optimal connection. This is a nice feature (that I had to disable to do the previous test) for most home users this is really nice have. For me I'd rather create multiple networks on different channels and choose what devices live where. I've not figured out how to have the Linksys dedicate separate channels to different network names. I know how to do this with the Netgear.
With regard to the user interface, the Netgear is very easy to do the simple things with, the networks map is a most excellent tool. I've found it difficult dig much deeper in to the more advanced functionality, which I'm sure it has. It's just is documentation feel incomplete (still being upgraded/advanced - It's 100% online with special smart tools to manage it from your iPhone or Android Device) - this is kind of cool but the really advanced features are hard to find, as they (might not be documented). Based on calls to Linksys for advanced assistance they have been VERY helpful and knowledgeable about the product. They even followed up on some technical VPN issues I had that were not yet documented.
So in comparing two routers that list for $299 and $279, I did see better performance from the newer Linksys AC4000. I did think some of the simple setup of the Linksys would be particularly helpful for most home users. I thought some of the advanced documentation was missing (but could easily be forthcoming as it's 100% online).

Clean teeth but Noisy

Ok to be fair I'm comparing the OralB 6000 to the Sonicare HealthyWhite+, which is slight less expensive, but I've been using Sonicare TB's for years. At first the novelty of a BT toothbrush was intriguing. But before installing the app I decided to see how I liked the TB alone. My first impression was that it is much more noisy than my sonicare, which just vibrates,vs the spinning action of the Oral B. I'm accustomed to my sonicare changing it's buzz every 30s to tell me to move to a different quadrant; the Oral B both blinks and buzzes to notify me, but when initially used it seems to continue for ever (not telling me to stop)....but I can count to 4 so I knew I was done.
The app instructions indicate that I'm going to look at the app while I'm brushing and that I can stand my phone in the included tooth brushes case to hold it up. I could find no way to do this comfortably. The app does track how long you've brushed, but trying to use while brushing .... not happening, just caused me to make a mess as the moving brush left my mouth.
I do think brush does a good job cleaning, probably about the same as my Sonicare, but the Braun is noisier and messier, I can't say I find the app particularly useful, maybe if it sent glowing results to my dentist, and I was then praised for my brushing.... But even thought I'm a gadget guy the combination did not work for me ...keep trying.

I think this is either the fourth or 5th Panasonic Shaver I've owned. The shave it gives is excellent, at probably a 1/3 of what I spent for the top of the line Lamdash model several years ago (still had box).
This less expensive version performs excellent. In particular the trimmer feels more stable and is more maneuverable than it's predecessor. The weight of the two shavers is very similar, although I liked the battery charge meter on my old shaver, I don't know I'd pay much for the feature, especially as the new ARC is likely to get placed in its plug in wall stand (yes, the charger for the unit get plugged into the wall and the Shaver clicks into the stand, red led tell you it's charging). All previous Panasonic's I've had had had a corded charger that rested on the sink, now it's attached to the wall plug.
My previous version operated at 13K rpm, the new ARC operates at 10K, the new ARC is more quite than the old and does not have the high pitch whine of the old unit (other than sound, I could not tell there was a difference). Both shaved equally well, the newer ARC has 3 rows of blades , the older had 4, the 3 rows being somewhat more compact (see pic) were a little easier to work with under the nose. AIl though this is a wet/dry shaver I've always used my Panasonics as dry shavers, the micro thin heads do a great job on two day stubble and with the trimmer, can easily tame a week old growth. The trimmer on the new model worked excellent, it was exactly the same size as on my previous version.
All told for the price the shaver performed near flawlessly, I like Panasonic's self cleaning shavers, but if it's not in your budget you won't be sorry getting/using this shaver.

I've had a Kirby G5 for years. The thing is heavy (all metal) but reliable, the HEPA bags can easily add another 10 lbs of dirt. On carpets the Kirby does a respectable job. But as I've been removing all the carpet in my house and replacing them with wood and tile; there is less and less where the Kirby is good. The Shark DuoClean does a FANTASTIC job on hardwood, and tile floors. The little spinning roller thing (see picture) on the front gets up dust like I can't believe. In the morning sun all the dust on my wood floors, shine in the sunlight, my Kirby does a good job of redistributing the dust, but not getting it sucked up. The Shark on the other hand passes over the dust leaving a clean strip of floor behind. Same with my wood looking tile floors, the grittiness the Kirby always left behind is a thing of the past (YEA).
If that all there was too it I'd be most pleased, but then I go to use the Shark on my still carpeted stairs, and the back breaking work of lugging and balancing theKirby on the stairs is gone. The Shark is a fraction of the weight (probably 1/4), and the wand reached more than half way up the stairs, so after finishing 1/2 I take the Shark to the top and work my way down...No balancing, and it's just as effective. And the handy little tools make getting behind and under things much easier. The only thing I wish it had was an attachement to better clean ceiling fans, the bright LED lights on the front are also a nice touch. And it's easy to empty the dust container, unlike the Kirby's expensive bags that I don't want to empty (replace); the Shark will likely get empties with each use, just that easy. It's also powerfully self propelled (if you want it to be).
The lift off canister is a nice touch, but the job it does on hard floors makes this a most impressive vacuum cleaner.

WOW Awesome Can you please help me with what is the actual run time. Confuse with below- Up to 120 minutes of runtime for whole-home cleaning. And with Recharge and Resume, the robot will return to the dock, recharge, and can pick up where it left off
It will return to its base any time it needs to be emptied, and then resume where it was (if it need to recharge it will,generally it just continues). Depending on dust/pet hair I found this to be 45m to an hour. I ran it immediatly after it had just run (let it recharge) and it never emptied itself the second pass. I found it can run for 2h, if there is enough work for it to do and what it finds along the way (if it "finishes" and has not collected much dust it will deem itself finished. You need to look at it being a smart vac.

are you aware of any of these types of devices that will work without WIFI? i am in an area where WIFI is unavailable and have wanted this type of device but running into a dead end without wifi.. anyone???? not willing to have ADT set up..
No it will not work without a wifi connection (to the internet).
