Great for music, not so great for movies
on February 23, 2017

I have owned this sub for a couple months now. This is a "polite", "mature", and clean sounding sub - its sound is not too overwhelming and overly aggressive with boominess and volume like many other subs out there. It's great for music like classical, jazz, rock, etc. - anything with real instruments. I have compared this sub side-by-side with many others and this sub was my choice, even though it did not have as much power or volume as the others. Don't get me wrong, this sub has PLENTY of power (do not be fooled by the "150 watts" RMS) and I have this sub in a very large room and it can certainly shake the room. I wish it had the ability to go a little lower with its frequency range and I wish the built-in crossover would do a little better job at cutting out the "mid" sounding frequencies when the crossover is set at its lowest setting, but, it's really not a big issue at all and nothing to be too concerned about for most people. I am very happy with this sub, overall. Music was my primary concern and that is why I chose this sub, but, if your primary concern is movies and you are only concerned with having as much power, volume, and boom as possible, you should probably get something else - like a Klipsch. Don't get me wrong though - this thing can perform quite well with movies. So, for a sub only to be used for music, I would give it an overall 5 star rating but if you are ALSO going to use it for movies, I would give it an overall 4 star rating. Comes with a pretty good warranty as well.

Decent sound quality. Great warranty period

This sub will certainly give you strong bass. But the sound quality is not that great. Can tend to be muddy/boomy sometimes. But it's decent. Also, the built-in crossover does not do a good job of cutting out the mid-range frequencies even when set at the lowest crossover setting (many subs are guilty of that). Overall, if you are more of an audiophile, you will probably not like the sub's sound quality but if you are not that picky about sound quality and can get this sub at a good price, I think it might be a sub that will satisfy you. Also, the sub comes with a very long warranty of 5 years on ALL parts. I bought the 10" and the 12" versions of this sub and my review/opinion is the same for both of them (although the 12" is even louder, a little deeper, although perhaps a little boomier than the 10" version).

Enjoy powerful low-end tones with this Pioneer Elite SW-E10 powered subwoofer, which features a BASH amplifier and 10" driver to emit thunderous lows throughout your space. The variable crossover lets you adjust the sound to suit your preferences.

Good but not great

At a full retail price of $600, I do not believe this sub is worth that price. If you have no other sub to compare it to, you might like it but I have experience with many different subs and I can tell you that there are subs out there for much less money that will do just as good, if not better of a job than this sub, in respect to what the general population expects out of a sub. Again, it's a good sub but nothing special. I do like that the low setting on the built-in crossover does a great job in eliminating the mid-range frequencies (many subs do a poor job in that area). The sound on this sub is good but not great and the sound can indeed be powerful but I find that the bass does not get very deep and sometimes the subwoofer structure/enclosure rattles and seems to have a hard time "composing" itself when the sub is pumping out significant bass. Also, just FYI - this sub comes with a relatively short warranty - only two years on ALL parts.

This Klipsch Reference R-12SW subwoofer features a 12" spun-copper IMG (injection-molded graphite) woofer and built-in digital amplifier, so you can easily add robust bass to your existing audio setup.

Great for movies but not necessarily for music

This subwoofer likes to be LOUD. It seems to know no other way to be other than LOUD. It is VERY aggressive and seems to want nothing more than to bring down your house. I think it is great for action movies but I do not believe that the sound quality is proper for music unless you listen to mostly electronic, rap, or hip-hop and you cherish bass and volume above all else. Can also get boomy - needed to keep the crossover at a very low setting to tame the boominess. I also got the 10" version of this subwoofer (R-10SW). The 10" version is less boomy than the 12", but the 12" bass is deeper than the 10". But, overall, I feel the same about the 10" that I do about the 12".

Add booming bass to your audio setup with this Klipsch Reference R-10SW subwoofer, which features a built-in digital amplifier that offers 300W peak power. A 10" IMG (injection-molded graphite) woofer reduces cone breakup and distortion for clear tones.
