Stereo/Nav unit installation in a SUV
on May 22, 2014
Posted by: Rick
from Montreal, QC (Went to Plattsburgh, NY store)
Gregg (installation guy) was so helpful and really nice to deal with, but unfortunately he did a poor job. I went to Best Buy trusting that a high quality job would be done to realize afterwards some cable connections were not done properly. Hands free and GPS nav voice were not working.
I live in Montreal so I went for the day to the store to have my stereo/nav unit installed. I bought a Clarion NX603 as well as an interface so it could work with my Jeep Commander (I didn't buy these at Best Buy). My appointment was at 2:45 PM but they received the car around 3:15 PM. Work was finished around 5:30 PM. Gregg mentioned this was the first time for him to install a Clarion stereo and that as well as the interface I brought, but that with the instructions everything should be fine.
We tried out the stereo, CD, radio, Nav (map) and everthing looked good. Just after leaving, I realized something was wrong with the installation as the Nav guided instructions were extremely low as well as the incoming volume for the hands free calls. So I went back, but Gregg told me he did the installation as instructed and that I needed to contact Clarion directly as it was part of their settings. He didn't even bother into see what was wrong.
So I left and went back to Montreal, and what a surprise that I went this morning with an installer here to find out that the cables were installed wrongly and had to pay $80.00 for this to be fixed. Now everything works fine. Best Buy charged me $100 installation + $70 for connecting steering wheel controls (I provided everything, including cables) and now I had to pay extra.
Extremely disappointed with Best Buy and their service.
What's great about it: Friendly staff
What's not so great: Poor job performed (cables were installed wrongly)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
