I've had the doorbell cam for a few months now, and recently added the August Lock to the mix.
Installation is easy - clear instruction and very few steps. You need to make sure you have the right voltage range to drive it. I think it expects the standard and mine had no issues. The setup with the app is straightforward too.
The key benefits for me have been being able to have a better sense of people coming and going: kids' friends, the occasional delivery, etc. It's pretty amazing to sit in my office or out of state and see (and hear!) what's going on by my front door.
The combination with the lock is powerful too - the cam allows to control the lock via the internet so I can see if the door is locked or not and unlock it when needed.
There's certainly no going back to the old fashion doorbells...
August HomeKit Bluetooth Deadbolt Retrofit Smart Lock: Transform your smartphone into a key for your door using this smart lock, which works with the downloadable August app. Create time-sensitive virtual keys for your most trusted guests, and track usage from wherever you are.

Excellent lock with lots of promise

Smart locks are going to change the way we live. They are the most exciting, useful and promising part of the "smart home" eco-system. I believe that they will do to locks what digital cameras did to film.
Installation is very simple: not many parts, very clear instructions. I had to get new screws for my Emtek lock (the company told me that this is very uncommon with Emtek locks) since mine were too long.
The lock connected quickly and works nicely in tandem with the August doorbell cam which bridges it to the world via my home wifi (it does this automatically).
The things that have been very valuable: + Today I unlocked the door remotely from my office for the babysitter and kids (she forgot her key). Saved lots of time and trouble for everybody. + The door can be set up to unlock automatically when I return home. I love not having to fumble for my keys and put bags/kids/sporting equipment down to unlock the door. + The door can also auto-lock when I leave the house and exceed a certain distance. I don't worry about leaving the door unlocked by mistake. + Being able to grant and later revoke access to people is awesome. I never liked giving the keys to all sorts of people who may lose them (my kids did all the time). + Unlike other locks (I have a keypad type lock on a side door), this lock isn't visible on the outside so it keeps the original look and feel of the lock I chose to go with the house's external style and color.
The software isn't yet perfect but it's been getting better and better and it already does everything it needs to do.
