Don't go without some protection

I wouldn’t go without at least a minimum anti-virus/malware software on any internet connected device and BitDefender does cover the basics of that for Windows, Android and Mac devices. This package allows for one purchase to be linked to multiple devices and with that allows you to use Anti-theft features from their website for your mobile devices. The Anti-Theft features are nice, but at the same time already a feature provided through most Google and all iCloud linked devices. However, Bitdefender, once set, allows you to use SMS text commands from a trusted phone number to perform location, lock, and wipe.
For the PC one feature I felt is missing is firewall control. I had no option to control what specifically was communicating to the internet and when it did it, like a different product that would notify me of each communication until I trusted the program. On Android devices the Privacy Advisor does notify you if an application has permissions to access sensitive data, such as location and browsing history. However, the only option to help you restrict those application is to uninstall them.
Additional features include VPN, which is powered by HotSpot Shield and limited unless you get a premium subscription. Applock allows you to require additional authentication to access specific apps, so for instance if you let someone use your phone, they would need an additional PIN to get into your locked apps, like email. Reports are basic numbers and gives a privacy rating based on what permissions applications have.
Account Privacy is good for anyone that has not already checked through a free service to see if your emails have been compromised through a site breach. However, the down side to this is that once you configure it for your account, it is now displayed on every device that you have linked to Bitdefender. For instance, I have it set on my PC and cell phone, then set it up on my daughters iPhone. Now she can see that my email was compromised through multiple dating sites that she does not need to know my account was once registered to.
As for the iPhone, Bitdefender is essentially useless and though I can’t prove it, I think it corrupted my phone. It requires additional permission, requires downloading of certificates and all kinds of things that you never typically do for an iPhone application only for it to allow you to use the Anti-Theft features, which iCloud already does, and the account privacy as mentioned above.
Overall, I wouldn’t go out of my way to get Bitdefeneder over other security suites. However, when it is offered with the purchases of Best Buy products I wouldn’t turn it down and go without some sort of protection.

Decent set of light weight wireless headphones

At first I was disappointed in the fit, I couldn’t get a good seal and bass was not at all noticeable. However, even though I usually use the medium ear tips for headphones, these needed the small ones for me. Once I used those and twisted the headphone ever so slightly in my ear, it locked in, made a seal and audio sounded crisp and clear. The build feels strong, though the braided cover is nice, it leaves potential to retain the smell of sweat. Unlike other short wired headphones where I could hear some wind whistling across the wire, these did not whistle but if they brush up against anything, you hear the rough texture. The retention clip is more secure than others that I have used, so less potential of losing it, though it is still plastic.
I consistently get about 6 hours of straight music streaming time from a full charge, though if I use them here and there they can last for up to 10 days dependent on use. The rigid cable helps keep the control box from swinging wildly into my head, but it takes a moment to get oriented with the buttons every time I go to use them.

Easy HD wireless surveillance

I have been wanting a security camera for my house for a while now and have been debating on what to get. I currently rent my house, so there is no way that I would be drilling holes through walls to install a wired system. The original Arlo system was enticing, but replacing batteries often was a concern. The Arlo Pro was a better option with longer lasting rechargeable batteries, but the max resolution is 720p. Now the Arlo Pro 2 is available with 1080p HD resolution and it is amazing. It still has the rechargeable batteries and still fully wireless.
The installation is super easy. Download the app, connect the base station to power and your local network, press a button on top of the base station and the camera and you’re up and running. You only need one screw to mount the little metal dome to a wall and the camera magnetically holds tight. The magnet is strong enough just to stick it to any metal surface, if you just wanted a quick cam on the fridge or something. There is also a standard tripod screw hole if you want to get some separate mounts, which would help with some sharper angles that can’t be achieved on the half dome plate. The app allows you to view a quick live stream to get the perfect angle and then make all the settings that you need.
With the app you can set how your cameras will react, such as record and notify with motion or audio detection. You can set the sensitivity level, which I found the audio capture can be real sensitive to wind on an outdoor camera. You can add geofencing so that when you leave home you don’t have to remember to arm your cameras for detection, or disarm them when you get home. If you have the camera plugged up, using the included power adapter and USB cable you can use additional features, such as limiting activity zones and take advantage of a feature that allows you to see a recording 3 seconds before a motion or audio even triggered it. The app allows you to view the cameras live from anywhere you have an internet connection, as well as communicate with two way audio. You can manually record and take screen captures as well. You can also grant access to other users, such as a family member or friend, so that they can view the cameras that you give them permissions to, or even edit settings if you allow it.
Arlo provides three levels of cloud storage for videos, with the basic plan being free. This allows for up to 5 cameras, 1 GB of storage and retains the videos for 7 days. These videos can be downloaded, shared, or directly shared to Facebook and Youtube. The other plans allow for longer and more storage, as well and more cameras and unlimited support. You can also subscribe for continuous video recording.
My current set up is one external camera on the porch and one internal covering most of the main floor. The outside one sends notifications on motion whether I am home or not. I usually receive the motion detected notification on my phone before the knock on the door. The quality is amazing and it picks up sound really well. It has 8x digital zoom, but of course how much detail you will see is dependent on the placement of the camera. The batteries come fully charged from the factory and in the past 5 days of usage it has used about 10% on my most active camera. Of course I have played live video a good bit just playing around with it and showing it off as well. But, at this rate it should last almost 2 months without a charge. If you only use 2 cameras like I have, one can remain plugged up indoors and the battery can easily be swapped with the other when in need of a charge. I now feel more comfortable around my house knowing that I have a way to see what’s going on when I’m not there.

The Redcat Racing - Cyclone XB10 is an entry level hobby style R/C car. The parts list breaks down to the finest of screws. The body parts have pins like the higher grade hobby cars and the suspension is oil filled and tuneable. There is also an included sticker sheet to give it some of your own flair.
This thing is zippy and capable off road, so long as the terrain is not too rough, as tall grass stopped it in its tracks due to the fairly low clearance underneath. I had a blast running it through puddles without being worried it was going to short out on me. The controller is basic, but includes trim controls and a reverse switch for the steering, in case you want to inverse the right/left of the wheel. It comes with two 2000mAh batteries, which it needs if you want to play for more than 10 minutes. At full charge, full throttle on an oval track, I would begin to notice power loss at about 6 minutes, at 8 minutes it is pretty much dead. There are larger batteries for separate purchase, however, the biggest issue I have with the Cylclone XB10 is the process to exchange the battery. Removal of four body pins to remove the main body and one more pin to remove the bracket that holds the battery in place. Each time I felt like I was going to damage the body cover and the fun diminished as I fumbled with all these little pins. However, the included charger would give a full charge in about an hour.
I have a gas powered Red Cat RC car and this is a good electrical comparison to that. Unlike the gas powered version, I’m not worried about blowing out the motor, again, or having the right fuel mixture. This thing is plug and go with a professional feel. It has taken some full speed hits to a curb with minimal damage, which I feared the worse as I saw a part dangling, but it snapped back in and we were back in business. Worst case, we could get the part number from the manual and order it from the redcatracing website.

Good starter robot for keeping things touched up

I’ve always wanted to get one of these robot vacuums, but the price has always been rather steep. This Shark ION Robot is among the lowest priced. With that, it’s not the “best” on the market, but for the price it gets the job done. With having pets in the house, this thing is even more useful as it can get fur and dander up while you sleep. It works great on hard floor and carpet and has had no issue transitioning between the two. The app controlled 750 model allows you to schedule a time per day, initiate clean and dock from your phone, from anywhere, once you have it connected to your home Wi-Fi. The app setup and connection is simple, however, be aware that the ION Robot only works on the 2.4 Ghz band and may require some network changes if you have a newer router that uses a single SSID for both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands if you don’t see it as an option when setting it up.
The Shark ION Robot does have smart sensor navigation and is fun to watch it avoid some objects. It will avoid falling down stairs on its own and with the included magnetic strip you can force it to avoid other open areas as well. However, in tight spaces it will bump its way around till it finds an opening which can get its self stuck under the edge of furniture. Such in my case under the end table it would get stuck on the back edge of my couch sometimes. However, with the app it will provide a notification that it is stuck and you can locate the robot with an audible beep.
This robot does not map your house out and does not appear to even understand the shape of a room. It will drive at an angle till it gets to an object and move to a new angle from there. This may result in some spots in a large area being missed, however, as I have a schedule set for every night, it eventually has covered the entire floor, to include under some tables I rarely get to myself. Every once in a while I will take it upstairs and force a clean by pressing the button, in which it will run for about an hour and cut itself off. On my main floor where the docking station is, it will return to the dock, bumping itself along till it gets in line of site with it, which can take a good while on its own. The Spot clean option will attempt to clean in a circular pattern, provided no walls are nearby. However, I attempted a spot clean on some dry dog food on a hard floor and the outside brushes pushed it around more than it looked like it picked up, making a nice clear circle with dog food all over the place around it.
For the price it is worth it. This robot has saved me a lot of time and helped keep my house in a cleaner state than it usually is. It has also provided a little bit of entertainment watching the animals react to it.

This little trimmer is designed to trim every hair on your body, from head to toe. The metal body gives it a nice sturdy feel with a little weight, but not too much to handle. There are five included trimmer heads for various purposes and several trimming guards that easily snap on and off. Each guard is labeled with its size and one for eyebrow, which I didn’t realize was a unique measurement. Each of the heads snap on and off easily except the foil shaver, which has a cover over it for cleaning and comes off when trying to remove it. The plastic cover on it felt really cheap, as if it was just something they threw in as an extra option and I fear it may break over time, though I don’t use this attachment often.
The included bag holds everything in a compact space making it easy to take anywhere with you. The head can be cleaned with water, however, it is not listed as waterproof and it came with a small brush. The trimmer heads all cut really smooth without any snagging and they state that the self-sharpening should remain after three years of use. Only time will tell, but I haven’t seen any degradation in the uses that I have given it.

Huge pitcher, simple use

This blender can handle over a half gallon of material with its huge 72oz pitcher. It feels like it is designed for commercial use with the suction cup feet holding it to your counter, the locking pitcher base and snap locks for the lid. It has loads of power, but with great power comes great noise. The Auto-iQ feature is pretty neat as it pulses at various speeds to give the texture of the product selected. I have made several iced beverages using the iQ setting for it and as long as I used the included tamper for the full minute, the drink came out perfect. Without using the tamper, there were large chunks of ice remaining, even after running the program multiple times. Cleanup is a snap, simply adding hot water to the mark on the picture, a couple drops of dish washing liquid and a push of the clean button. I usually ran it a few times, just to be sure, but it has come out clean every time. It has the capability to use the Double-walled to-go tumbler (24 oz.), and supposed to recognize the difference between that and the picture, but it is sold separately and I did not get to try it out. If you have the need to make large quantities of blended products with ease, but don’t mind a bit of excessive noise, then this is certainly a great option.

If you like a glass of wine from time to time, but hate to possibly waste a whole bottle by opening it and not drinking it, then the Coravin Model Two meets that purpose. It is easy to setup, the needle goes through the cork smooth and it is easy to pour a glass or two while maintaining the corks integrity on the bottle. However, for the price of the device and the requirement of the Argon canisters, I find it hard to bite. With proper practice to avoid waste of the gas, you can get fifteen 5 oz. pours per capsule. This then leads to some very slow pours as you realize that when you tip the bottle up you may be wasting gas and when you are about 2 glasses left on a bottle, you might as well open it with a corkscrew as you are guaranteed to waste more gas then.
If you drink wine often and go through a bottle within a short timeframe, all this is doing is adding a cost per glass. Though I am not a wine connoisseur, I don’t think the oxidization is going to destroy the wine in a day. But, if you want a glass of a specific bottle today, and then a glass of the same bottle next week, this will certainly preserve that flavor for you and extend the life of the wine. Take note that this will only work on bottles with real cork wood corks and not synthetic or rubber corks.

Bright and light.

Sharp, clear and incredibly bright. This lightweight projector is one of the brightest I have ever seen, especially considering the size. It has all the major input options so that you can hook it up to pretty much anything, even two inputs at the same time with a split screen option. It has a built in speakers, which isn’t the best or loudest, but it gets the job done if you just need to project something off or a portable device. It has auto keystone which is pretty accurate, a zoom and focus dial on the lens and a feature I haven’t seen before that allows you to angle the projection, in case the projector can’t be pointed straight at the flat surface. It boots up relatively fast and there is no extended cool down period, it is ready to unplug as soon as it is powered down. There is a huge set of options through the menu to get the specific image that you are looking for and strangely, I guess the software is default, it has network setting which is not capable on the VS355S. This is an amazing projector whether it is for work or play, as you can see from the image of the 24 foot wide screen I set up in my back yard.

Simple and quick

Doesn’t require an app, like many recent routers, yet it has one (QRS app) only for router setup. Once plugged up, it was 4 clicks and up and running, I didn’t even have to attach any antennas. However, there was a firmware update which required me to go through the setup process again, which froze and required multiple reboots for it to finally complete. Once I made it past that point everything was up and running without issue. Of all the router menu systems I have seen I like how theirs is displayed. Most features were easily configured, a few required going to a menu within a menu, but those weren’t something typically used. There is easy guest setup, VPN options and DLNA file share capability with USB 3.0 on the front and 2.0 on the back. There are also built in parental controls so that you can set times or only permit or block specific sites. The Smart Connect feature allowed for both the 2.4 Ghz and 5GHz band to show as one SSID, however, you can change this to be two separate bands if you like, both methods worked fine. Overall, simple and effective, gets you up in running in minutes while providing plenty of coverage and bandwidth for the modern home.

I tried many different ways to find out how to download the Gear VR programs by going to Samsung and Oculus online. All unsuccessful!!

Once you connect the Gear VR to the phone it starts a download for the software. There appears to be no other way to initiate the install. Once the Oculus software is installed, games and applications can be purchased through the application or from inside the store while wearing the device.

Wasn't told at time of purchase that certain phones were required to use this device. After purchase was when this was discovered. During this time we purchased a new home and was moving. After the move, tried to return the item because I didn't want to purchase a new phone. The only way the store would accept this return was to give me a gift card. I didn't want a gift card that I would most likely not use. Not happy with this policy at all. Also have made posts to FB in regards to your policy. I will not EVER enter your store again or make another purchase from you online. This is NOT how you treat a customer and expect more business from them.

What phone are you using and is it up to date? The Samsung Gear VR is only compatible with Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and a software update from your carrier is required for S6 edge+ and Note 5.

Has anyone played any games on this unit ? I know it’s not a gaming system , however just wondering if anyone has tried any games.
For an example, I tried to play Battlefield V, which I was surprised that it loaded, but quickly crashes. I kind of expected this as their minimum requirements are for a higher graphics card, which this one has an integrated Intel UHD 630. Games like Sims 4 and other less intensive games work just fine. With the HDMI input, you can always just hook up a PS/Xbox.

You cannot pair another pair of headphones with the base station. However, you could use a second set with the RCA cables. There is an IN and OUT on the base station, so you could essentially take the audio from your device, like a TV, to one base station using RCA cables and OUT to the the IN of the other base station.

Samsung's website indicates this TV comes with "OneRemote" technology that automatically detects and controls your connected devices and content with no manual programming required. What are the limitations? What types of devices does this work with?
The One Remote will automatically work with devices that it identifies through HDMI, especially other Samsung products. However, if it does not recognize the device and gives a generic device, you can manually set it to possibly provide some functionality. Most common cable/satellite boxes, all in one sound systems, media players and DVD/Blu-ray players will get basic functionality such as volume, play/pause while some use the colored button function.
