Like them other bands, but with a subscription
on October 4, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
A very typical looking fitness band. Simple touchscreen display with a single area at the bottom for touching to go back. It has all the features most other fitness bands have but with the subscription, included for 1 year, it provides more.
It has all the things you would expect of a smart watch/fitness band. Time, heart rate, footsteps, calories, sleep monitor, notifications, audio control and exercise options. When paired with your phone you can get even more functions like guided exercise routines, scored activities, food plans and more details to each of the normal functions. However, even further with the subscription you can use their body composition toll to calculate body fat percentage and their tone monitoring that calculates the tone of your voice to determine where you are at on a scale of amused, content, reserved or displeased. Though I see these features offered, I feel a little uneasy letting an application take photos of my bare body and my watch listening to every word I say to determine my mood.
When I first pulled it out, it says to charge to 12%, but the charger is the strangest thing I have seen and there was no indication of it actually charging. It is like one of those little hair clips, but with a wire connected to it. Then I didn’t know how to put it on because I have never seen a watch band like this, but the app has a little video for it, so it makes sense. However, it is still awkward to adjust. I have the medium/large band as I have used that size before, but with only 7 holes I am keeping it on the tightest to the one before most of the time and I am having a hard time getting it tight enough. As awkward as it is to get on though, it seems to hold pretty well.
Tracking wise it seems to be doing just as good as my previous watches. I check on my stats each day and see that I really should be more active, but my sleep is usually good. The app is where you get the real details, but I feel like it is just so cluttered with stuff that it is hard to find exactly what you are looking for. Battery life has lasted over 5 days but it notes that if you enable the tone monitoring that it is only about 2 days.
Overall, it is a typical fitness watch with added features through the mobile app that you don’t see in others. I don’t think I will continue the subscription after a year, but we will see it come then.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Simple print/scan/copy
on September 24, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
This is meant to be wireless and you have a mobile device to set it up for the most part. It starts off by directing you to the app before you even put cartridges in. But, it does give decent step by step directions. It didn’t even print out a calibration page like most printers do, it was just ready to go after the cartridges were installed and primed. It does have a USB-B port, nothing else, if you need to be wired straight to a PC.
The display is easy enough to read, but since it is not touchscreen you have to use the directional buttons that felt very cheap. But, once it is set up, you can use the app for pretty much everything.
As for the app, it reminds me a lot of the Adobe Elements products, with a bunch of tabs giving a simple thing an entire page. For example Print Photos and Print Documents are separate tabs. I prefer to hit print, then decide what I am printing. At least with my computers, they recognized the printer on the network and didn’t need any additional software to work.
Quality is decent. A few photocopies looked a bit washed out in color, but direct files sent from devices were clear and sharp. Speed for an inkjet is decent and fairly quiet. Auto duplex is nice for conserving paper usage, but double sided and multi-page scanning requires you to flip and replace each page every time.
The paper tray comes out completely and has a flip down front so that you can use legal size paper. Overall build feels very cheap, but considering the price point, features outweigh the design. Ink is where they are going to get you back as the standard cartridges claim a yield of 210/185 but the initial cartridges are always less than ISO specs for install.
Overall, if you don’t plan on scanning multiple page documents often and looking for mainly a wireless printer for your network that can do duplex prints, this one is decent for the budget. With slow single page scanning and very small ink cartridges, I wouldn’t recommend this for busy home office work. But, for a single page scan/copy and some decently fast printing, this will get the job done.

Fair competitor to the other guys
on September 22, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
It has been quite some time since I have used an all AMD product and it is good to see they are staying up there in competitive power. This Lenovo Legion Slim 7 is surprisingly fast, has a huge sharp screen and my fingers aren’t getting cooked like some other high end laptops I have used. I think the only real downside to this system is the limited ability to upgrade it. With no second M.2 slot and only 1 replaceable RAM slot, you can’t expand much other than externally.
As with any new computer, you get through setup and perform all the latest Windows updates. Then, you have to grab the Radeon drivers because the ones Windows keeps installed are not the latest. Once you finish all that, everything is zipping right along. Had a couple crashes before I realized I didn’t have the latest Radeon drivers though. Also, I was about to drop it a star because I didn’t see the FN+Spacebar to enable the backlit keyboard with low/high/off toggle. The simple included manual just showed a symbol and I was looking all over the FN keys for that symbol. It is only white, but serves its purpose just fine.
Once I was updated I was playing games and everything ran really well. Colors in everything are vibrant and the 165hz refresh really shows. With some things I do, it was odd to have a different resolution of 2560x1600 instead of 1440, but most things pick up on it just fine. Besides, you can always change the resolution, you just get the black bars added in, still prefer the larger screen aspect though.
As with most slim laptops, ports are small as well. But, sufficient enough for most use and with USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Gen 1 you can use all kinds of expansion adapters. You have two USB type C with Display port 1.4 and two USB Type A ports, HDMI 2.1, SD card slot and 3.5mm headphone/mic port. It also has a 1080p webcam with a switch on the side to disable it. I personally prefer the physical covers because I can see it blocking the camera. This method, you just have to trust it is working.
Another thing most computers come with is their own special software, like this one has the Lenovo Vantage and Legion Arena that gives you more personalization. However, a couple times in the first few days I would get interrupted with a pop-up reminding me to register or the chance to upgrade. When you get into the Lenovo Vantage, there is pretty much an upgrade option or subscription for everything. Extended warranty, security, privacy and they all have added benefits. Then you also get the typical notifications from McAfee which is pre-installed.
The overall build of this laptop feels pretty rigid and tough. There isn’t much flex to the main body like I have seen on some and the bottom is made to maximize air flow. The cooling design really helps keep it cool as some I have had to keep fingers inside the keyboard at all times or risk feeling a bit cooked. However, it does make some fair fan noise. This can be changed through FN+Q or the Vantage software for a quiet mode, but you might get some throttling. The modes are also displayed by the color of the power button, which is also the fingerprint scanner. I found the placement visually pleasing, but functionally it feels awkward in the middle.
Overall, if you want to step away from the Intel/Nvidia combo, I feel this is right up there in comparison. The 3DMark and PCMark came in a little lower than my i7/3070, but that could also have to do with 3D Mark not having updated information for the Radeon RX 6800S yet as it said “Graphics card not recognized”. With the larger screen you also get a 96% style keyboard with a full number pad in a compact design. This computer is certainly worth considering when you are looking around this range of gaming laptops.

Not bad, but get the app to make them better
on September 20, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
I’ve had a few Turtle Beach headphones through my time and I’ve never raved about them. They are all usually mediocre in sound quality and simple in design. These are no exception as they look similar to a different brand of headphones but are like the cheaper version. To set up, they are fairly simple, just be sure to take them out, remove all protective bits and reset them in their case, close the case, open and remove and they should be ready to pair like any other Bluetooth headset.
Off the bat they were easy to use and not bad in sound quality, but not great either. I had a lot of issues with keeping them in my ears though and most of the time the default middle works best for me. But, I had to go to the larger tips and they were a bit tedious to replace, but it helped a bit. I wouldn’t trust using them if I was still active and sweating like I did when I was younger as the way the long tip design is on them, it just felt like it was causing them to come loose. With them being loose I would need to try and adjust them and the single touch to hang up a call is a bit annoying. Would have been better if it was a long touch to end the call.
Some of the issues with sound preference and button commands can be adjusted once you get the Turtle Beach Audio Hub. With that you can use their preset sounds and equalizer and change some functions of the touch feature, but not that single touch. Also, the first time using it may require a firmware update as it did me.
As for the gamer mode, I really didn’t notice much of a difference with it on and off. I even tried to see if just maybe gamer mode would be the thing that would make it so I could use Bluetooth headphones with the Oculus Quest 2 and it wasn’t. They worked, but there was just too much delay to really use them for VR gaming. On my Samsung Note 10+ they worked fine in both modes.
Considering the headphones each have a microphone, you can use one at a time and swap them out to extend your actual listening time. However, those microphones are super sensitive and pick up every sound in the room. I probably should have tried them while riding a bike or something because I am pretty sure the wind would just destroy your attempt at talking.
Overall, just for sitting around, playing on my phone or laptop they have been fine. If I was an audiophile I would probably avoid Turtle Beach in general, but for general use they are decent for the price point. The fit wasn’t right for me, but my son says he finds them comfortable and the seal keeps a good passive barrier. So, that is really dependent on your ear fit. Getting the app makes a bit of difference and who knows, maybe another firmware update will make them even better.

Tiny Boom is more like it
on September 14, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
For something that is a bit bigger than a softball, this thing puts out some sound. Compact enough to take with you just about anywhere and waterproof to boot. From just listening around the house to the beach, this thing can handle it and keep up with the amount of time you may be out there with 14 hours of battery life, depending on usage. I even tested out its claim of floating and even trying to sink it, it comes right back up. You might have to shake some water out of it to get the sound back to normal. But, it never stopped playing. Connect it just like any other Bluetooth device and off you go. The built in elastic band seems pretty tough to handle most hooks or even a handlebar on a bike, but it doesn’t stretch far enough to get around more than the end, so you may want a carabiner or something to clip to bigger areas. The environment button on the bottom makes a huge difference in sound, dropping bass for more highs. However, outside that makes it travel further and you really don’t notice unless you are up close to it. The volume buttons can’t be missed, but for as big as they are, they adjust the volume pretty slowly, which is fine for small adjustments, but when you want to turn the volume down quick, best to use the connected device itself.
Overall, I am really shocked at how loud, clear and rugged this Wonderboom 3 is. It will be going many places with me.

Without the USB, just basic comfy headphones
on August 12, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
For anything that has a 3.5mm port, these are just straight out headphones with a mic. Simple volume knob and flip up mic. The padding is comfortable for hours. I have been mostly using them while playing in VR as the attached rubber cord keeper helps keep the excess wire out of the way. The rest of the features come on a PC when using the USB to 3.5mm adapter and with iCue software installed. There you have voice prompts when features are enabled/disabled, adjust the equalizer and take advantage of Nvidia Broadcast technologies provided you have an Nvidia RTX2060 or higher.
Overall sound quality is decent, it sounds very balanced. It doesn’t have the “ear tickling lows” that I have had on other sets, even with the bass boost equalizer setting in iCue. But, it’s not like it is missing as you can certainly still hear the difference in range. Even noticed in one game I have been playing, a sound effect I wasn’t noticing on my other headset that was a very faint metallic sound on certain events. In using an audio test I was able to still hear the voice at 66 dB below full sound which is pretty impressive as my hearing might not be able to hear much less than that anyways. If you like simple wired headphone/mic with the ability to get 7.1 Dolby style effects on a PC, this is certainly one I would consider.

Keeping the temp stable
on August 10, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
It doesn't take an electrician to put in, as the directions they give you in the app make it a breeze. I had the old one removed and the new one up and running in no time flat. Took me longer to find a small enough flat head screwdriver to remove the old wires. It may seem complex when you first get into it, but they even provide little stickers so you can ensure you keep the wires the way they were when you removed them.
The physical device isn’t much different than a normal thermostat. Plain buttons to cycle modes and temp. Where the real features come in is when connected through the app. Simple display at first lance just shows the mode and current set temp. Go in further and you can see local temperature, humidity and additional options for the modes, fan, schedule and usage. I like the auto mode where it can control the heat and cool based on a min/max setting. That way when the weather starts changing, I’m not wondering why it is 80 during the day but 60 at night because I didn’t change the settings again. Scheduling allows for programmed or geofencing so you can let it get a little more uncomfortable when you aren’t home due to a normal schedule or when you physically leave the area. The usage stats are something new to me as you can see exactly how long your device is cooling/heating or just running the fan. Which is also an option where you can set a percentage of time to let the fan run for every hour of use, just to keep circulation going.
The thermostat has even more settings such that it allows you to restrict min/max points or lock out the panel all together so someone isn’t cranking it up to 80 because they feel cold. It has several efficiency settings to either maximize comfort by maintaining a close temperature control or allowing for a couple degrees of fluctuation. It even has a built-in reminder feature where you can set something as simple as reminding to replace the filter in 3 months or schedule service in another year.
Another feature that is dependent on your power company are energy savings programs. For example, my power company will give a $50 gift card and $5 a month, up to 5 months (May to Sep), if you allow your thermostat to make small, automatic adjustments during times of peak electric demand. Though it sounds enticing, I like keeping a steady temperature in my house.
So far, this has actually kept my house cooler than expected, even to the point I have it set 2 degrees higher than my old thermostat. I am looking forward to how it will work out during the season change and not waking up freezing in the morning because it was 80 during the day in December. Comparing my electric bill over the past week, since I haven’t really enabled any of the efficiency settings, it has looked about the same. Since I am home pretty much all day, every day, this is what I expected. Keeping the temperature right where I like it.

The Swann Professional 6K NVR Security System has crime-fighting features other security systems dream about, with deterrence and prevention at its core. The patented SwannForce technology responds when the cameras sense heat and motion to trigger red and blue flashing lights, spotlights, sirens, mobile alerts and more. This professional wired surveillance system features 6K or 12MP Mega HD video which has 50% more pixels than 4K from a 6mm camera lens showing a 65° field of view. This helps capture details like never before, and this evidence can make a huge impact when dealing with criminal activity. Plus there’s color night vision, two-way talk, Face Recognition, Person & Vehicle Detection, free recording and more. With PoE (Power over Ethernet) connections; power, video and audio run through a single Ethernet cable per camera, making installation simple. You’ll enjoy maximum reliability without the concerns of Wi-Fi connection drop interruptions, wireless static or bandwidth limitations. The cameras are sturdy yet lightweight, and they’re built for use indoors and outdoors. They can be the right mix of an overt security presence and discretion where required. Face Recognition can be set up simply to identify familiar faces and send personalized alerts when they are detected. Be notified when your child arrives home from school, when your cleaner has left for the day, when your employee has opened your business. There’s also Person & Vehicle Detection, and more Smart Video Analytics for accurate alerts. Everything is viewable on the Swann Security mobile app! View live video, receive alerts, turn the lights and siren on and off, change motion and heat sensitivity and more. You can also ‘speak to see’ with Alexa and Hey Google. Record video to the large hard drive and save footage to your Dropbox in the cloud. That’s the Professional 6K NVR Security System – Swann’s most advanced surveillance and crime prevention system.

Little more resolution, still the same issues.
on June 9, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
So, having had three different Swann systems over the past couple years I can say they are definitely improving the quality, but they still have issues that make me prefer a different system over theirs.
First, the positives, the new cameras compared to the older model record at 4096x3072 instead of 3840x2160. This gives a sharper picture, vibrant colors and helps with those details you need. The installation is simple with power over Ethernet as you have one connection and one wire per camera as opposed to the DVR systems and the large power blocks needed.
The issues I have with this system are similar to the previous models though. The fact they increased the resolution and left the NVR hardware the same, it is even more limiting as you can only view 1 camera at full resolution at a time without getting the “not enough resources” for the other screens. You can keep it in SD and view all 4 though. The increase in camera resolution did not increase the field of view. The camera only does 90 degrees while some other systems get up to 110. It really makes a difference when you are trying to cover a house with only 4 cameras.
The PIR option that is enabled by default is not reliable. It will catch anything from wind blowing the tree, bugs flying or a person, but it will miss the moment the person stands still for a second and not record again till a few seconds later or if they are too far away. This is why I always prefer 24/7 recording, which you can enable as “normal”, but then the app shows it as an event between events so you may have hour long recordings when all you want is a few seconds in the middle that you didn’t get a motion detection. At least you can check the playback on the NVR directly, but only 1 camera at time unless you drop the resolution. Of course the downside to having the normal recording on is that it will fill the harddrive and leave you with about 5.5 days worth of reviewable audio/video. While talking of playback, I really find their method of zooming in on the timeline annoying. Why not enable the scroll wheel like so many other applications do. As it is now, you have to select the area within the 24 hour timeline, say a purple section from PIR, then select the shortened time frame from where that marker is and hope you were close enough for that timeframe. The limitations of the hardware hold the system back as they have several options for detection, but you can only have one AI mode enabled at a time.
Overall I’m not saying this is a bad system, I am saying it could be better and over the past couple years it does look like they are improving. It does provide 24/7 coverage with decently clear, vibrant cameras and two-way audio. But, you can’t take full advantage of the system due to the NVR hardware limitations and the PIR is not as good as they try to make it out to be.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

2TB of storage without much worry
on May 26, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
One thing with most external drives is that they can be easy to damage. They slip off the edge at the wrong time and that spinning platter corrupts your project. Could be years worth of stuff gone because you bumped your knee on the table. Then you might choose a thumbdrive, but they are usually limited in size and the bigger they are, the slower they tend to get. This Samsung T7 kind of brings both of those examples together and keeps up the speed.
Straight out of the box and ready to go. This comes with USB-A to C and USB-C to C cables. Hooked it up to multiple Windows based PCs and Android phones and had files transferred everywhere in minutes. With 2 TB you can store a lot and with read/write speeds similar to some internal hard drives you can do it faster or work from it directly. Of course, this is all dependent on what your device is capable of as using a USB2 port will still work, just not give you the same speeds.
On the drive there is the application for Windows and Mac so that you can manage the security of the device by adding password and encryption. There is a link to the Google Play store of the Android app as well. Though not required, it is beneficial if you are traveling with sensitive information as this drive is meant to travel.
The rubber casing on this drive really makes it feel like you could throw it across the room and still be good to go. I’m not trying it myself, but it feels a whole lot safer than the plastic shells of most external drives and sturdier than a thumbdrive. The size is easy enough to keep in a pocket and with the grip, probably not just going to slip out like your phone without a case.
Overall, this drive is exactly what I need when working on the go. It relieves some of the anxiety other drives give me while giving the speed and capacity to work on practically anything digital. I feel that the only weak point would be the USB cables themselves over time and those can easily be replaced.

Simple office chair
on May 26, 2022
Posted by: DavidJr
This reminds me a lot of my office chair at work that I sat in for many hours over several years, but now I have it at home. Super simple to set up and plenty of adjustments to make it fit. However, there are some minor adjustments I feel are needed.
Out of the box there are no tools required, just set things in place and snap together and you are ready to sit down. The mesh back helps keep max air flow while still being firm enough to give support with an adjustable lumbar support. The seat is comfortable and allows you to adjust forwards and back to help relieve pressure under your legs for use with longer legs especially. The controls are pretty standard with the pneumatic height adjustment and a lock with 2 positions for back tension. One thing I found missing is that other chairs usually have a tension screw that allows you to get that specific tension while this has only two presets and a lock. The armrests are adjustable in height and the padding on top can be adjusted in multiple directions, but the main body of the arms are locked into position. Essentially you can only get so wide with them while the padding can come a little closer. The casters are clearly designed for carpet as they are a bit stiff and need the friction to make them roll smoothly.
Overall, this chair is simple and comfortable. It is mostly plastic, so the style might not be for everyone. Besides those minor adjustment points noted above I have sat in it without issue for many hours now. I wouldn’t say it looks like luxury, but does kind of have a modern style to it.

Very unhappy about not getting the GearVR programs
By Sunshower
I tried many different ways to find out how to download the Gear VR programs by going to Samsung and Oculus online. All unsuccessful!!

Once you connect the Gear VR to the phone it starts a download for the software. There appears to be no other way to initiate the install. Once the Oculus software is installed, games and applications can be purchased through the application or from inside the store while wearing the device.

Need certain phones to use this.
By Donna
Wasn't told at time of purchase that certain phones were required to use this device. After purchase was when this was discovered. During this time we purchased a new home and was moving. After the move, tried to return the item because I didn't want to purchase a new phone. The only way the store would accept this return was to give me a gift card. I didn't want a gift card that I would most likely not use. Not happy with this policy at all. Also have made posts to FB in regards to your policy. I will not EVER enter your store again or make another purchase from you online. This is NOT how you treat a customer and expect more business from them.
It is labeled on the box and the site details

It says on the front and back of the box, "Compatible with Note5/S6 edge+/S6/S6 edge" and anywhere you look online it says it as well.

Samsung Gear Fit2 Fitness Watch + Heart Rate: This fitness watch measures your heart rate, calories burned, distance traveled, steps taken and speed and features a Bluetooth 4.2 interface that lets you sync results with your compatible Samsung phone or tablet. Its smart notifications let you receive alerts and respond to calls from compatible Android and iOS smartphones¹ and a curved display makes it easy to view activity progress.

Each morning after being on charge, before I put on my wrist....calories burned always shows 300 or 400. How can I zero out this ...

The calories "burned" is based on a calculation of your current build and age. Just you being awake meant you burnt calories, so the watch has already accounted for what the average burnt should be without accounting for tracked activity. I have read that with people resetting their watch the calorie count will return.

Is this compatible with Samsung Galaxy S4 pjone?

From Samsung's site "Compatible with select devices using Android 4.4 and later with at least 1.5GB RAM. Supported devices may vary by carrier and device. Some features may not be available. For best results, connect with compatible Samsung Galaxy devices."

The Samsung Galaxy S4 should have 2GB of RAM and at least Android 4.4, if not higher if you kept it updated.

How far away can your phone be in order to still get notifications?

Bluetooth range can support up to100m/328ft. However, this all varies on a multitude of things. In my average 2 story home made of wood/drywall/vinyl siding I can keep range of my phone if I leave my phone on the first floor and I am upstairs or in the basement as well as just outside. By the time I make it into my car in the driveway is when I get a vibration that I lost connection, about 50 feet or so through walls.

How can you play games on it?

It depends on the game. Some games have minor input using the touchpad on the side of the Gear VR. Some simply require you to look at menu prompts to advance it. A couple of them require an external Bluetooth controller, additional purchase required.

I can't get the Netflix app to work and I feel like I have tried everything.

Your statement is so generic that it is not even a question. Netflix app has worked fine for me using Note 5. Maybe you can find an answer here https://help.netflix.com/en/node/38626

if I down load games , and later change head sets . will I run into any problems

The games are not specifically associated with the headset, but with the phone. If you use your account on a different phone, the games should transfer.
