Perfect for my needs, easy setup, reliable signal

This is a review of a free product received from TP-LINK as part of the review program.
I'm very happy with the performance of this TPLink C9 AC1900 dual band router, and found it to be an inexpensive solution to boost my wireless signal to the dead areas of my house that my ISP's router couldn't reach. I plugged it in, logged in through a web browser, and in only a few minutes it was connected to the Internet and broadcasting a strong signal. I reviewed the setup through the mobile Tether app, just to test that method, and both were incredibly easy. My ISP's gateway only provides a single band, but the C9 router automatically set up dual bands of 2.4 and 5 GHz. I compared the connection speed using speedtest.net at various spots in the house between the router and the dead area, and found it to be more than double the speed I was getting before. This was reproducible on several devices. By trial and error, I adjusted the three antennas to better direct the signal toward the dead areas of my house. Although the speed dropped a bit, the signal was good and uninterrupted to about 75 feet away. Previously I had tried a range extender from a different brand, but I couldn't get a reliable signal to the dead area. There are 4 gigabit ethernet ports and 2 USB ports. I attached a printer to the USB 2.0 port and external drive to the USB 3.0 port, getting good transfer rates for documents and images without any errors. I especially like the guest network, so visitors can connect to the Internet without compromising the security of my own network. I also like the build quality and design of the router, the convenient location of the LEDs and ports, and upright orientation which makes a small footprint.

Take your connected home one step further. This TP-LINK router lets everyone in the house enjoy a steady, continuous Wi-Fi signal at the same time. Download the Tether app to get started, set parental controls, and much more.

I am very pleased with the performance of the TP-Link C8 AC1750 Dual Band router, and highly recommend it. The Quick Installation Guide made it very easy for me to set it up through a web browser with my laptop. My gateway only has a single band, but the C8 router automatically set up dual bands of 2.4 and 5 GHz. I used speedtest.net to compare the connection speed at a midpoint in the house between the router and the dead area, and found it to be more than double the speed of the previous wireless connection to my gateway. This was reproducible on 4 devices. By trial and error, I adjusted the three optional antennas to better direct the signal to the dead areas of my house. Although the speed dropped a bit, the signal was good and uninterrupted. Previously I had tried a range extender, but I was unable to get a reliable signal to the dead area. The USB ports are a nice bonus, so I can attach both my Seagate Central and my Lyve Studio to the router, getting good transfer rates for documents and images without any errors. Previously I had problems timing out during file transfers using my gateway and the range extender. I especially like the guest network, so visitors can connect to the Internet and I can still maintain the security of my own network. I also like the quality and design of the router as well as the location of the LEDs and ports.
