Gives your 360 headsets life on Xbox One
on August 2, 2014
Posted by: Keyan
This cable along with the Xbox One chat adapter gave life to my Earforce Tango headset on the Xbox one. By setting the chat to game balance to all chat on the adapter you still hear game audio through the wireless Dolby digital base station and chat comes through the adapter. It works great, the only sad part is that I need a wire now and there is no bluetooth puck for the Xbox One, but at least I can use the headset again.

Great bluetooth headphones
on July 27, 2014

How Often Used:3-5 times a week
These headphones provide an excellent value for the money. Solid bluetooth sound quality, dual device paring (I can have them paired to a phone or PC for phone calls and my iPad for music, etc). Also includes device controls for playback and call control. Lightweight with excellent battery life.
They also include an audio cable for listening to non-bluetooth sources or for use when the battery has drained.
Overall I am very happy with my pair of them and the price is very good.

Incredible and surprising
on February 22, 2014

This speaker is amazing. While I don't call myself an "audiophile" by any means, I can still tell decent speakers from ones that are badly balanced or have poor sound quality. This speaker is the real deal, and at a good price too. I was in the store listening to the Bluetooth speakers and I saw this one at one end of the display. I thought to myself "TDK? Didn't my dad have a lot of those as VHS tapes in the 80's?" I dismissed it outright as yet another attempt to bring back some long lost label by a cheap knockoff company. Fortunately my 5 year old son was with me and while I was looking at other speakers pushed the audition button in front of a much larger speaker...turns out someone had moved the cable to this little guy. I was immediately impressed by the sound, and when I realized such a full sound was coming from this little speaker I was blown away. This thing is amazing. It is also solid as a brick, in part due to the rather large and heavy battery pack (which is actually user replaceable, a very rare thing in this age of sealed in batteries), and in part due to the solid construction. It feels tight and built like a tank with rubberized buttons with a good tactile response. It is splash and dust resistant when the side shield that covers the side ports is put into place, meaning you can use it outside without worry. It also has something very rare, light up LEDs to give you an idea of the sound level it is set to. This thing can get really loud.
The sound quality is great for such a small speaker. Of course it will not outperform large speakers in a home theater, but for its size and portability, this thing is really great. You can actually hear the bass line in your music, something that is often lost with these portable units, while mids and highs are also great quality and distortion free. The passive rear radiators really help open up the sound, while a dedicated third speaker for bass helps give your music a very full sound. Many of these portable units have two or maybe 4 speakers but they are all doing roughly the same thing, on this one the bass speaker isn't just a gimmick.
Of the portable speakers in this price range this one is by far the best, and it even holds its own against the larger systems from the major brands.

Good Tablet, but
on January 3, 2014
Posted by: Keyan
The new generation of Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 is here, and it is a good tablet for someone who is an Amazon Prime member and is looking for a budget friendly tablet. The screen is very good and it performs well.
Having all of the buttons on the back is kind of an odd choice. While it makes the screen very clean, it can get confusing to remember where the buttons are, especially for new users. Also, this thing has ads all over. Amazon is in the business of selling you everything under the sun, and you will be sure to know it with this tablet. Having to pay extra to get some of them to go away is annoying, especially since this tablet is not exactly super cheap. It is also locked to Amazon's App Store and media store, so you do not have all of the freedom of other android tablets.
My last comment is not as much about the tablet as it is Amazon's advertising of this tablet. They brag about it being 20% lighter than an iPad Air, which it is, however it is also considerably smaller with a screen size and ratio that means it is more rectangular with less surface area. The iPad Air is a 4:3 9.7" screen, while the HDX is a 16:9 8.9" screen, which equates to quite a bit less screen space. So it is no small wonder that it is lighter when it is smaller! Do not expect this tablet to provide the same amount of screen space as an iPad.

iPad Air is 20 percent thinner1 and weighs just one pound, so it feels unbelievably light in your hand. It comes with a 9.7-inch Retina display, the A7 chip with M7 motion coprocessor, ultrafast wireless, powerful apps, and up to 10 hours of battery life.2 And over 475,000 apps in the App Store are just a tap away.3

Best iPad yet
on December 28, 2013
Posted by: Keyan
Just switched up to the iPad Air from an iPad third generation (first one with retina display). What a difference the thinner bezel and weight reduction make in handing! It is now easy to hold for a long time or in one hand. Overall construction is excellent as is expected of an Apple product - with the premium in price comes the best construction and materials.
Compared to the mini with Retina I prefer the larger screen size for productivity and video watching. The Air is also slightly faster (higher clock speed) than the mini with retina, and it also displays a wider range of colors more accurately. I use my iPad for some light photo editing and review, so color accuracy and range are important to me.
The speakers are better than the previous generation, they are stereo but are so close together at the bottom that it isn't really effective at channel separation. They do seem to be slightly louder and have a wider range, but they won't replace headphones or a good speaker system.
Performance is top notch, with everything responding quickly. Infinity Blade 3 looks incredible, up to the quality of the previous console generation (Xbox 360/PS3), but not to the level of the new ones.
Overall this is the best iPad to date and one of the best tablets out there.

Incredible Evolution of the series
on October 1, 2013
Posted by: Keyan
As an owner of the Canon 60D (I actually wrote the featured review of that camera on this site), when Canon announced the 70D it checked every single box for an upgrade for me. It has a new sensor, 19 point all cross type phase autofocus when using the view finder, faster frames per second, a touch screen, wifi, and the most advanced video autofocus ever put into a DSLR to date.
First off, the sensor. It is a 20.2mp sensor with a new system Canon is calling Dual Pixel AF - what does that mean for you? It means that all of those pixels are actually split into two independent receptors that the camera uses to determine if the pixel is in focus or not using the same principles of light that the phase detect system through the viewfinder uses. This means that when using liveview and video that the camera locks focus on your subject and stays locked on as you or the subject move. With the touch screen, you can tap on the object you want the camera to follow during video and it will track that object with pretty good accuracy, even tracking kids running around. For stills, you can enable the touch shutter and just tap on what you want the subject to be, and the camera will instantly focus there and take the shot. It can also do autofocus down to f/11 - a huge advantage if you are using a slower lens and a teleconverter to get more reach. No longer do I need to haul around a camcorder or another camera to get autofocus during video, this one does it and does it extremely well. For best AF performance during video you should have an STM lens.
For stills, I still find that nothing beats the control and flexibility of the viewfinder on a DSLR, and the 70D does not disappoint there either. The viewfinder is nice and bright, although not quite as big as the 4 year old (and still more expensive) 7D and it does not display the entire frame, instead only showing 98%, which is still more than enough and an improvement over the 60D's 96%. The two big features here are the intelligent viewfinder and the 19 point all cross type AF system. The 70D has an intelligent viewfinder that only displays the active focus point, your metering area when using spot metering, your focus area when using all points or zone, grids can be optionally turned on or off, and one of the best features (that even the 7D lacks) is a full time horizontal level so you always know exactly where level is when taking a shot. This combined with an advanced (and customizable) focus tracking engine means excellent focus performance when tracking moving objects, as well as much more flexibility than the 60D offers on where the subject is in the frame and where you set the focus point.
Other features: The wifi is actually very useful, allowing for wireless transfers of images to your PC with the included software, or direct uploads to several web services. The other really cool feature is the ability to remotely control the camera using an Android or iOS device - the camera can even become its own hotspot, allowing for remote control even when out and away from more traditional wifi. The touchscreen makes using the menus a breeze, which is also important for entering text like the passphrase for a wireless network, no need to hunt and select single characters with a mess of key presses. The touchscreen is also integrated very well for liveview and video shooting. The screen itself is articulated, which, when combined with the touch focus and shutter options, allows for very effective use of the camera at odd shooting angles. Ergonomically, the 70D is a step up from the Rebel series with dual control wheels, a top LCD, and more direct access buttons for controlling settings.
Finally, image quality. The 70D has the best image quality of all of the Canon APS-C cameras, especially when shooting jpeg as the Digic5+ does a great job of cleaning up noise. ISO 6400 is perfectly useable, and even 12,800 looks good. It can also fire away at up to 7 frames per second, which is great for action shooting. The new sensor and processor combination leads to a camera that is excellent at being a camera..and a lot more.
Overall, the 70D is just a really great camera. It does so many things and does them all well. You really can't go wrong with one.

An excellent fridge
on May 31, 2013
Posted by: Keyan
The kitchen in our new home is all KitchenAid Architect Series II appliances so this was the natural choice of a fridge to match the other appliances. This fridge is great, large capacity and good features. The wide fridge drawer is great for platters or for kids snacks and it comes with a set of movable (or removable for large platters) dividers to help make the most of it. 2 gallons of milk can fit in the right side door on a single shelf, freeing up the rest of the fridge for the rest of your stuff.
One of the best features of this fridge is the fast and measured fill. The water from the filter tastes great and it fills your glasses much more quickly than most in the door fridges will. The best feature though is the measured fill mode. Need a cup of water for a recipe? Tell it you want a cup, and press dispense, and it will give you exactly a cup. You can set it to ounces, cups, or liters to meet any recipe or to fill your glasses or water bottles. This feature is something that will spoil you quickly. As far as I know only Whirlpool (KitchenAid is a Whirlpool brand) fridges can do this and it is a highlight feature.
Overall we are really pleased with this fridge and would recommend it.

Great display
on January 29, 2013
Posted by: Keyan
Wow, this display blows me away. It's surreal being able (and wanting) to touch the monitor with Windows 8. I use this on my custom built desktop, and it is a very new experience to touch the monitor. Touch response is accurate and a lot of fun.
Image quality is what you would expect from a high-end IPS monitor, bright, well saturated, and consistent images from corner to corner, which is key for things like photo editing and gaming. Overall it is a noticeable step up from my previous (and not shabby) Samsung edge-lit LED.
The integrated speakers are nothing to write home about, but they work to give you basic audio, and right now I am reducing my overall PC footprint so it's out with the Logitech 5.1 speakers and I am using these for basic stuff..for gaming I have a headset.
Every cable you could need is included, VGA, DVI, HDMI, Audio, and USB, which is required for the touch screen to function as the video cables do not carry data back to the PC. It also has a 3 port USB 3.0 hub, which is great for things like mobile devices and cameras, or to charge up wireless mice or keyboards. I have managed to declutter my space as I don't need a USB hub on my desk anymore either.
Overall this monitor looks great on the desk, nice clean lines. The kickstand takes a lot of force to get to lock into the first position, I find the first lock point to be perfect as the monitor sits just below eye level on my desk so the angle, for me, is dead on. It is also more natural for your wrist if the surface is inclined for the touch screen. If you really want it straight up, it supports standard VESA mounts so you can position it at any angle you want.
The glossy screen is necessary for touch and doesn't show finger prints too badly, especially when the display is on and not totally black. You will see some reflection in it, so in a strongly backlit area it may not work as well. I found that after a few minutes of using it I didn't notice the reflection anymore. As one other review mentioned, my first copy of this screen did have some debris stuck between the touch layer and the display glass. Check your display when you get one and look for stuff stuck between the layers. As always Best Buy exchanged it out for another one with no real hassle, and this one is clean.
Overall, I am very impressed with the display and am now getting used to having both a great display and the new aspect of touch to make my computing experience even more enjoyable and interactive.
What's great about it: Great image quality, 10 point multi-touch, every cable in the box
What's not so great: Check the glass....

How badly I wanted to like it..
on January 16, 2013
Posted by: Keyan
I really wanted to like this sound bar. It is one of the few that can actually replace a receiver and it has a ton of input options, 2 HDMI and two optical (and one analog RCA), letting you directly connect your components to it instead of relying on the TV to switch the audio (my older non-ARC TV will only pass stereo over it's optical link).
It also has Bluetooth and a front panel display so you can tell what is going with the unit, what volume level it is at, etc, which is another feature that most soundbars don't have.
The sound quality is decent on the unit, although the crossover for male voices between the sub and the sound bar is a little annoying, I found that in general male voices were about 75% in the main speakers and 25% out of the subwoofer, causing them to be somewhat muddled. Every time I change the channel on my cable the audio pops when the channel starts to change and pops again when the next channel comes up. It's not loud but it's noticeable.
The biggest downfall of the unit, for me, is that it simply refuses to work correctly with my Harmony One remote. There is no direct way for the remote to set the correct input on the Toshiba, so it has to cycle through each input until it gets to the right one. If this gets out of sync it will cause problems, and this is where the biggest issue comes in. The two simply don't work together. Commands are only accepted by the sound bar occasionally from the Harmony remote. I have tried to tweak all of the settings (delays, etc) that you can to get it to work right and the two just refuse to talk to each other reliably. This is the first device I have had that just won't work with a Harmony remote, and it is very disappointing that they won't work well together. The whole point of a Harmony remote is to get rid of extra ones, and in this case I can't use this unit and put its remote away.
Overall this is a decent option if you don't want it to work with a Harmony remote, but for me that combined with the audio popping during channel changes and the somewhat odd crossover for voices is a deal breaker and I'll be exchanging the unit for a different one if I can find one I like.
What's great about it: Connectivity all over
What's not so great: No IR direct input options, does not play nice with Harmony Remotes

$30 for a piece of plastic that broke.
By CmdrJones from New York, NY
Bought this in October when I bought my iPad.
It developed a crack within a few days, apparently because it installed and removed it a couple of times when I was applying a screen protector.
The other day it developed another crack that left a piece of plastic sticking out by the volume control. It's completely useless.
Emailed Belkin, they said I had to call, so I called. Spent 34 minutes on the phone and discovered they wouldn't replace it without a receipt.
I pointed out that I could send the thing to them (how would I have gotten it, right?) but, no.
Have to say I didn't expect a protective case to break, silly me.
So, the design or materials used thing are defective and I'm out $30.
No more Belkin products for me.

Should've been a Day 1 edition...
By kjk91
I like that it has a 1TB SSHD and comes with the new elite controller, but this really should've been a Day 1 edition for the next gen consoles. ESPECIALLY since with the xbox one you have to download all games onto the console even with a disk format compared to a direct purchase from the xbox store. I've had to uninstall and reinstall games over and over just to play a game that I want to because I have about 4-5 core games that I keep on there that I play regularly. 500GB HD on a next gen console is frustrating especially when we had it on the xbox 360.
Overall, I am thinking of getting this if only for the extra hard drive space to store games. If I can't trade in my old xbox one, I may be waiting to get this until the price drops and just dropping $100 on an external hard drive.
In regards to your space concerns
October 6, 2015
You know that you can just plug in an external HDD to your xbox one and store games and apps there, right? Just go get a portable external HDD, plug it into the back, and tuck it away behind your xbox and store your games on that.

I think this should of been day one edition .. This is good for people that are just getting a xbox one but also for hard core gamers for just the elite controller . New focus since Day One
October 6, 2015
The focus of the Xbox team prior to the launch of the XBO was as a media hub of which gaming was just one function. Unfortunately they miscalculated the effect that focus would have on their most vocal and dedicated fans. Since then they have rededicated their focus to gamers and gear heads who appreciate the options of a hybrid SSD and the elite controller. It's actually pretty remarkable what they have done in 2 years in terms of feature enhancements to the console and this new line of Elite console versions and accessories that are focused on the gaming community.

All of the interchangeable parts lock in magnetically, no friction tension parts to wear out, no wondering if it is going in the right way, they just lock into place and are secure but easy to remove when you want to customize the controller. The long throw sticks are perfect for driving games or other precision uses, and the two profiles allow for on the fly switching of sensitivity, a great feature for running around and then switching to a lower sensitivity mode for careful aiming. The mappable under paddles mean you can map buttons that would normally take your thumbs off of the sticks to your other fingers. The hair trigger locks are great, I tend to set the right one for hair trigger and the other for long throw for aiming.
I also like that this controller, like all of the other Xbox controllers, just uses two AA batteries. Sealed in batteries means that you can't just swap in new ones and keep going - and when they eventually wear out, it means a new controller. I use high capacity rechargeable batteries in mine. It also comes with a nice long braided USB cable if you need to use it wired.
This controller allowes for you to customize it exactly to your gaming style and it is the ultimate Xbox controller. Recommended for gamers who are looking for the very best and are willing to pay the price for this controller.
No I wasn't paid
October 29, 2015
Oh no, someone likes something on the Internet, they must be paid for it! No, I spent my own money on the controller and am just that impressed by it.
I did realize after posting that I didn't say anything negative and I was waiting for a comment like this to come along. If I had one negative it is the soft touch finish on the controller. It makes it feel great in the hands but it shows fingerprints if there is any oil at all on your hands, so it will need a wipe down with a microfiber cloth to keep the oils from breaking down the finish and to keep it from looking nasty.

Works but 3.5 HD is not very snug.

The speed is great but the drive sits in the case pretty loosely.

I found this too. I've had this with other enclosures by other manufacturers too, the solution I have found is to go to a hardware store and get a package of the "extreme" all weather heavy duty Velcro, cut a couple of small pads out of the "soft or fuzzy" side of the velcro, and stick them to the far end of the HDD that goes into the enclosure (over the platter area if you know where that is) - do not stick it to any exposed circuit boards or directly over the motor in the center of the platter area of the drive. That will act as both a sound dampener and it will fit in there very snugly. Makes the enclosure quieter and the drive won't rattle around.

The Smart Cover for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is constructed from a single piece of polyurethane to protect the front of your device. The Smart Cover automatically wakes your iPad when opened and puts it to sleep when closed. It folds into different positions to create a stand for reading, typing, or watching videos. And it’s easy to remove, so you can snap it on and off whenever you want.

It's a Smart Cover...
By Keyan
It does exactly what you would expect it to. As some others have mentioned it slightly overlaps the edges of the Pro - this is by design as Apple seems to assume you are going to also get the silicone back cover. With the back cover it fits perfectly to form a complete cover for the iPad Pro. One nice change in this generation is that the Smart Cover will magnically lock to the back of the iPad when it is folded open - although I don't like that my hands are against the felt the entire time it is flipped open as it will probably get dirty over time. I usually just pull it off when I am using the iPad and want it out of the way. The cover has a nice feel that matches the back shield cover. Overall it is exactly what you would expect. It and the back shield add up to a ridiculous price though, coming in at about $110 for little more than scratch protection.
Slight correction

It's closer to $120 for both covers....

Can only do what the source can output
July 29, 2016
A 4K monitor, just like a 4K TV, can only run at the resolution the source device can output and is also potentially limited by the cables used between the devices. An Xbox cannot output 4K yet - only the Xbox One S will be able to output at 4k, and it will require that any devices between the TV and the Xbox (such has a receiver) support 4K, along with the cables between components.
As someone who owns this monitor, I can tell you that it supports 4K just fine, and performs very well.

Enjoy desktop gaming power on your Alienware laptop with this Alienware 452BBRG graphics amplifier, which supports most full-length, dual-wide PCI-Express x16 graphics cards. The 4 USB 3.0 ports provide room for additional accessories.

Love it.

Its great. Setup was easy. I have a 1070 in it right now. The 1070 will play just about anything at 1080p with ultra settings. Don't use the amp as a docking station or you will hinder performance in games. Looking at youtube videos you can expect to attain about 70 to 85 percent of the cards power. Still its better than the 970m or 980m. The locking mechanism is really bad though. Hard to open and when you do it makes a sound like you broke it.
Why no docking station
August 1, 2016
Looking at the riser card and how this registers to the system, I'm pretty sure the USB portions of the Amp have dedicated conductors in the cable, meaning they will be on a separate path from the 4 PCIe 3.0 lanes that feed the graphics card. It shouldn't make any difference in game performance at all. What source did you find that indicates otherwise?

MY dog chewed up the antenna for the x-box live. Can that be replaced?

You will probably just need to buy another wireless adapter if it's not working anymore.

can you play any games of xbox with only a 4g hard drive

Yes, you can play just about every game, I think the only one that might not work is Halo Reach if you want to play Co-Op mode as it requires a hard drive to be present. It's a bug but I am not sure if it is fixed. You will be limited on what downloadable content you can store on the console and there is not enough space to install games which lowers their load time and stops the optical drive from spinning. You can either add up to a 16gb flash drive (make sure it's a compatible version) to the console for more storage or add the 250gb harddrive for $130 later.
