I'm giving this monitor 5 stars, taking into account the price. Compromises had to be made to reach this price point, and if you can't accept those compromises for the money you'll save, then be prepared to spend hundreds more.
The stand is metal reinforced plastic, and has no swivel, pivot, or height adjustments - only tilt. Put the monitor on a lightweight table or desk, and bump that table/desk, the monitor might wobble a bit - it might even wobble a little when adjusting the picture. It doesn't have G-Sync. There is no USB hub...
Buy this monitor, and you are paying for the IPS panel, which is as good as many in far more expensive monitors. Thank goodness LG didn't compromise where it really matters - the panel. As do all IPS panels, it has its weaknesses - blacks could be darker, contrast could be better, and there is some IPS glow - but that's true of all IPS panels.
What you do get is much better color, and viewing angles. Color and gamma do not shift if you move your head, and are the same at the edges of the screen as they are at the center. Overall, the picture just looks better than any TN screen. Until someone releases a UHD VA panel monitor with good viewing angles, or an OLED monitor, this is the best we have.
The monitor claims to be calibrated, but I found the picture too green, and way too bright - of course, that can be adjusted. And, I didn't see any backlight bleed - just the usual IPS glow - but that can vary, sample to sample.
If you are like me, and are going to take this monitor home, set it up on a reasonably sturdy surface, adjust the tilt and be done with it, save yourself some money and buy this monitor. If you truly need or want a really sturdy stand with lots of adjustments, a USB hub, and G-Sync, pony up $1,000, and don't complain!

Good, but With One Important Compromise
on December 29, 2015

These go on sale in the $150 to $160 range, and I ordered them from Best Buy while on sale. For the money, they are excellent headphones, but at this price level, you can expect at least one compromise, but it is a serious one for many.
First, the clarity, smoothness, sound stage, detail, etc, is excellent. Many say no other set of headphones for less than $300 comes close. But, about that compromise... Bass, while detailed, is rather weak. There is no sub-bass to speak of, so things like bass drums and orchestral hits just don't have any punch. This seems to be an issue with open backed headphones, but these seem worse than most others.
Also, there is only one cable, and it has a 1/4" end. With the supplied 1/4" to 1/8" adapter attached, the end is long and cumbersome when connected to small devices. I bought a complete cord assembly that terminates with a 1/8" end on eBay for $20. It works fine.
If you care about high fidelity, and can live with the lack of bass, these do sound great. If you listen to music that relies on bass punch, these are not going to please you. If you listen to classical, you'll likely love them, considering the price.

You Won't Mistake It For An IPS Monitor
on December 2, 2014

For the price, this is a decent monitor, but you will never mistake it for an IPS panel monitor, but then, neither will your bank account. The screen is capable of blinding brightness, but contrast is typical TN panel fare. And if you open a full screen, white window, you will notice some color variation from top to bottom.
Calibration out of the box is too heavy on the green. All whites have a greenish tint. I used an old Pantone HueyPro to calibrate, and have a much better picture as a result. A basic colorimeter might be worth it, if you are picky, and can't afford an IPS monitor. Or, as a compromise, just turn down the green.
The monitor is a single stream monitor, and you need a DisplayPort 1.2 card to run it properly, but you'll get full resolution at 60 Hz, and the monitor will not show up as two monitors in Windows, as some older UHD monitors do.

Anyone using this for video editing?

Hi,

I would like to use this monitor to do some video editing on it. I would think that this a good choice for the task. However, maybe someone did use it for editing and found it to be not so great?!

thanks.
I have this monitor, and it's fine for daily use and gaming, but it is not considered color accurate enough for critical video editing. If you are editing for a hobby, you can adjust the monitor color and get a reasonable picture, but if your work is color critical, look for a well calibrated IPS monitor.
