Great Value - BUT IMPORTANT HIDDEN CAVEAT!
on August 4, 2016

Overall, this printer is a fantastic value if you're willing to front the huge upfront cost for the initial investment.
The printer right away looks a lot like a cheaper version from Epson - but WITHOUT the Eco-Tank functionality, and it appears the bulk of your initial investment is from the ink that comes in the box. Right away, it's obvious that there is a LOT and I do mean a LOT of ink. You get your "initial" setup bottles, which fill all of your tanks to the very top on the side. Be careful - it's very easy to get this on your fingers. Fortunately for me, I have nitrile gloves at home, but not everyone will! Be careful not to confuse which bottle goes in which tank. Although the reservoirs are clearly marked, somebody who does not pay attention could spill the wrong color - and if you do, you're legitimately screwed because the mixed color will have "contaminated" the ink supply for that specific color reservoir and tank.
Now, alas, let's go to the nitty gritty. Overall, for double sided printing, it's pretty snappy for a home or home office use. If you're in a higher volume setting like a doctor's office, this could be an issue, because of the print speeds. Obviously this is an inkjet printer, and therefore you will be waiting on the printhead to print, line by line, your documents.
This has a SINGLE SIDED scanner, and the ability to double side scan does not exist. It's also slow - and although acceptable for a home user or home office user, it's nothing speed wise to write about.
Network connectivity is easy, and setting up the printer is fairly straightforward. After removing your usual packing materials, you load the ink into the reservoirs on the side and when you turn the printer on for the first time, you're supported to hold the "OK" to let the printer know you're ready for the 1st time priming. This process is initially very loud and lasts about 20 minutes or less. It should be noted that during this time, the printer will start siphoning ink from each reservoir to prime the lines for the first time.
One important thing you should keep in mind is that there is a small paper tray. I believe it holds only 100-150 sheets of paper, and although I did not pay attention to the exact number, know that this is a lower volume unit and if placed into any office capacity, you will refill the paper often.
THE IMPORTANT CAVEAT.... Epson does not make this initially obvious - but like their older generation printers, this printer does have an "END OF LIFE" internal counter inside that will eventually render the printer virtually useless. Unlike the newer Epson printers with a "Maintenance Box" that is replaceable in the back, this printer DOES NOT have one. Why is this important? If you are somebody who likes to hang onto a printer for a long time, it should be noted that there is an internal absorbent pad that absorbs waste ink for thinks like routine printer maintenance, borderless printing, printhead cleanings, etc. This pad does eventually get saturated and unlike Epson's newer Workforce printers Non EcoTank series (w/ exception to the RX Model) - they have a maintenance box that is replaceable when saturated and your can continue to print. This specific printer ET-4550 will eventually warn you down the road that the printer has reached its end of usable service life and will basically require you to junk the machine or have Epson assist you with a "reset" utility - which you can find via a search engine. This also means that you would need the internal pads to be replaced, and most people won't go thru this process.
Other than this very important caveat, this printer is still a great buy based on cost of ownership. I have prehistorically had print-head issues with former Epson machines, and I suspect it was because all of their inks have traditionally been Pigmented based ink but in the EcoTank series (NOT INCLUDING RX VERSION) - the Colors are dye based EXCEPT for the black ink in the printer. This is important because the fade resistance and water resistant qualities in TRADITIONAL, non EcoTank inks you do not get the same results with this machine. So, they sacrifice the ink to be dye based for the colors - which save them money and you have to be careful about not getting your prints moist. Although this won't be an issue for many people but if you print signage with this printer, this ink WILL fade when exposed to the UV rays of the sun in a window over time versus the formerly traditional pigmented based Epson inks.

WOW! Good things DO come in small packages!

Where do I begin!? Don't let the small size fool you. It can print 4x6 photos to the Legal sized paper with ease. This is by far very portable. A competing Canon mobile printer is smaller than this unit, but the Epson outperforms it in my opinion, and here's why.
This EPSON printer comes w/ a rechargeable battery built in. The Canon? It's optional! The HP competitor? It's OPTIONAL! Right out the box, you have the ability to print without being attached to power. That's huge for me because a MOBILE printer shouldn't have to be tied down to a power outlet . It saved my tail today because I was near no power and only had my laptop and the microUSB cable that came w/ the printer and the printing paper.
Sure - wifi is good, but something direct and reliable, you can't go wrong w/ USB and this printer not only uses a MICRO-USB cord, it can RECHARGE ITSELF from Micro USB, too! (ONLY CHARGES WHEN PRINTER IS OFF).... another down fall, the battery is BUILT IN and NON-REPLACEABLE. So, unlike the competitors, w/ a replaceable battery, this one does not.
The printer is no speed daemon. However, considering it's purpose, who's the complain!? This beats driving to a print shop ANY day and I don't have to rely on expensive Hotel printers anymore!!
One other thing - there's a "Maintenance Box" in this machine, it absorbs "waste ink" from functions like cleaning printheads, borderless photos, and daily operation. It WILL become full. Fortunately, the tank is like a few bucks. It will absorb the waste ink instead of risking it leaking into your printer bag when transported. All in all, I like but I do worry about the printhead reliability as w/ past EPSONs I've owned - they've all had clogged heads eventually unlike my former HP Mobile OfficeJet where you get a new head w/ each ink cartridge change. All in all - a good value, portable and powerhouse for its size.

Don't Understimate This Keurig!

I've owned a Keurig Mini, then a Keurig Elite, and now - Keurig Vue V700.... my oh my, what an upgrade!
1st off, this thing can make water very very HOT. I can bump it up to 197 degrees - and I'll use that water to make more than coffee - instant noodles, oatmeals, grits, etc - oh yessss.... it's versatile!
This is the 1st Keurig to my knowledge, that you can program to turn ON and OFF at your specified times! So, when I wake up - the water is hot and ready for brewing. It's got a generous water reservoir so I don't refill as often. The touch-screen on this thing is nice, and pretty cool to see!
Got a TRAVEL MUG? No prob! You can make up to 18oz at once, and it works well with the "Travel Size" Vue cups. Before, I was constantly using K Cups to fill a mug, and it was becoming hard to make it cost - effective. Now, with Vue - I still get convenience, and can fill my travel mug without using excessive Vue cup packs.
You can actually now, tell the brewer if you want a "STRONG" cup too! It'll slow down the brew just a little bit, and my oh my - the flavor extraction is wonderful.
Buying my Vue cups on their website isn't so bad, plus Keurig customer care gave me coupons to make up for not seeing it anywhere except Best Buy online and another local dept store vendor.
Sure, K Cup won't work in this brewer - OUT OF THE BOX, but if you search online, there are adapters on a major online retailer that allows you to use K Cups and also your own grounds, too - so "Not" having Vue cups readily accessible didn't bother me.
It's quiet, and I enjoy drinking my own coffee - I work for a medical company that gives me odd schedules, and having great coffee without having to drive to a nearby coffee shop - I'm hooked.
Try this machine - don't be scared, you'll be pleasantly surprised like I was!

Epson Is STEPPING It Up!
on October 20, 2012
Posted by: tuffstuff504
from New Orleans, LA
I use it for:Document printing
I print a LOT and especially in color. I have owned HPs over the years, then a Kodak printer (which bit the dust) and tried out Epson. Before this WF-3540, I purchased an Epson WorkForce 845 (the predecessor to this WF-3540 printer) which did okay in my opinion. This newer, stronger WF-3540 puts the WorkForce 845 to shame!
I got this WF-3540 because my previous Workforce 845 bit the dust recently. Since I had extra sets of ink from my previous Epson unit, I bought this unit because it also used the same inks (Epson 126/127 respectively) and therefore, eliminating need to waste my previously purchased cartridges.
Compared to the Workforce 845, this machine is literally an upgrade everywhere -- NO JOKE! Go and Google "Epson End of LIfe" -- you'll see a big difference. Epson's have been notorious for giving their printers a "self-destruct" mechanism, which after so many prints, the printers would "stop" as they'd reached their "End of Usable Life" -- rendering their unit useless. With this newer, WF-3540, Epson has apparently listened to consumers and now introducing the "Epson Maintenance Box" now. When that "end of life" is reached, simply replace "maintenance box" which contains waste ink absorbent from operations like nozzle cleanings, border-less photos, etc and then you're done -- and don't have to trash this printer! I checked the Epson site, this "box" is just over fifteen bucks.
Next, YES -- there's two paper trays, but now, there's a REAR FEED slot for photo paper, Envelopes (#10 for example) and other "special media" Epson likes to call it -- so now, unlike the previous Epson WF845, I don't have to take ALL of my paper out JUST to print ONE photo or envelope (purely annoying before!).
The touch-screen interface is way better than ever with a screen closely resembling that "Fruit Phone" if you know what I mean. It's easy to operate and navigate, too. Don't forget -- you can scan to Google drive and Evernote, now too -- if you program this unit correctly using "Epson Connect" software to tell your machine to program these shortcuts in there.
NEW! There's the "ID COPY" feature, so you can copy both sides of a card (like driver's license, insurance card, etc) WITHOUT having to re-feed the paper! It'll scan the 1st side then 2nd side then print your front and back's of cards on the same sheet of paper without flipping anything.
Don't forget -- now that machine is sturdier, and more durable, too! Compared to the previous generation, WorkForce 845, this machine looks and "feels" more finely built. Nothing is flimsy, and the machine is even faster than the previous unit, too.
Got kids? No prob. Print ruled "looseleaf" paper or graphing paper, too right from the touch-screen! Setup was a cinch on my WIndows 7 Ultimate notebook and it connected with no problems whatsoever.
This machine is fast even in "normal" mode, too. Don't let this small footprint fool you. If you think this machine is a "whimp" to other products like HP Officejet Pro series (which I honestly feel is directly competing with), think again! Honestly, I'm a hardcore HP fan, and after the Workforce 845, I wasn't so impressed until NOW. This Epson unit will give HP a run for it in my honest opinion -- oh yeah -- totally forgot that I can print with no problems from my iPhone and iPad, too!
There's so many things about this machine I can talk about. Photos aren't bad either, although I think a Canon or HP can make better photos (this machine is more 'business oriented' in my opinion) although this machine is really all about getting down and dirty to business.
2 paper trays NOW accommodate LEGAL size paper! A "guide" sticks out to adjust to insertion of Legal paper, so you can print with more options (like legal contracts, etc.) and more.
All in all, there's a lot I like about this machine - - and it seems to handle paper pretty well so far, too. If you're looking for something that'll get "down to business" and don't want to break your wallet or purse, this machine seriously needs a look.
What's great about it: Easy to use, feature packed and even better than ever!
What's not so great: Inks slightly pricier compared to another brand *Ahem!*

WOW... Don't Let This Item Slip Past You!
on August 26, 2011

from New Orleans, LA
I decided to get my car's CD player changed out since it was going out on me. I had decided to get a JVC CD Deck and this item was listed as a "compatible accessory" to make/take calls, stream Bluetooth audio, etc. My first impression was "Wow.. this tiny booger will be interesting..." but boy was I wrong! This little sucker picks up my voice even when I'm driving in a noisy environment! Callers still know I"m on "on my phone" but said they had NO issues hearing me at all and calls came through crystal clear from my Verizon iPhone 4. I effortlessly streamed Pandora, iTunes, and other music streaming with no issues and excellent quality. I HIGHLY recommend! Don't let this tiny thing deceive you into thinking it's "cheap." It really works! I attached the relavant product of the CD player I actually used this with!
What's great about it: Small, yet very effective!
What's not so great: You have to manually wire in BACK of stereo.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Will the scanner scan multiple pages or 1 page at a time?

It will scan multiples but it will not hold many sheets in the feeder. (10 sheets or so)
