Poor quality, design

I purchased the ASUS Zenbook ux303ub laptop after reading the good reviews on here. I would be going from a lifelong Dell laptop owner to ASUS solely due to the fact this 13" model had a NVIDIA card. That was not an option on the Dell XPS 13. I have regretted my decision from day 1. The first thing I noticed after opening the box is the laptop didn't sit flat. If you hold it up and look at the keyboard from the front edge it is warped a bit on the right. I thought that was odd. The second issue was the touchpad. It is horrible. Between not detecting subtle movements to false clicks the thing is maddening. I was starting to think the warped body and touchpad issues were related. After finally accepting the fact I was going to have to live with a crooked laptop and horrible touchpad the right hinge started to make a popping sound when the lid was opened and closed. Eventually, the hinge on that side completely detached. I read numerous reviews other places about poorly designed hinges on the Zenbooks. Most of those reviews were for earlier models so I just assumed they would have had to have redesigned the hinges on this latest model. Apparently not.
I contacted ASUS and they sent me back a nice form letter about how accidental damage is covered under their warranty. Accidental damage? I use this laptop just as frequently as I have used every Dell I have owned in the past. Those computers lasted years... this one broke in 3 months. to rub salt in the wound ASUS makes YOU spend the money to ship it back to California for repairs. With insurance using UPS ground that was $46. They also keep your laptop for 5-10 days. That means I am out about fifty bucks and I won't have a computer I rely on for business for about 2 weeks all at no fault of my own. If I could go back in time I would buy the Dell XPS 13 without hesitation. Partnering with ASUS has been a truly horrible experience. Beware.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

How is the hinge design on this unit? Is it the same with the earlier ASUS laptops from the UX303 line? I read somewhere that those hinges were not as durable because of some design flaw.

Horrible... steer clear of this model (ux303ub) and company for that matter. Check out my review. My right hinge broke completely off the LCD side after just 3 months of daily use. I called ASUS and they made me pay to ship it back to them in California for repairs. This is a poorly designed machine.
