Excellent wifi device

I don't remember where I purchased this one from, but it's definitely a great deal and the price is right!
Yes it is a newer revision with a different chipset being using. Yes it does work very well in Linux, I have personally got it to have full signal and throughput in Ubuntu and Mint. Others say that it can also be done in Fedora as well. It is NOT a problem with the actual device, it's a problem with lack of support for the chipset due to the manufacture doesn't fully support open source.
Quick easy fix to get it going:

Great little low cost computer

This is a very capable machine considering it's low power and lower than average specs. The A4-6300 APU is 65 watt CPU and GPU combined as a dual core, most common CPUs are usually 95 watt or higher consumption. Always a win in my book when the system can do more work while using less power! The 4GB of preinstalled RAM is a single stick so there is still an available slot to add more RAM. Expansion is capable up to 32GB (like that much would ever be needed or ever really used), going up to 2 sticks of 4GB would be a great boost giving a total of 8GB and it would then run in dual channel mode (essentially doubling the effective throughput of data).
There's many great features including onboard HDMI output and even a PCIe x16 slot to add a dedicated graphics card.
The power supply is only 350 watt, but seems to hold up quite well on the stock setup. I personally would not even consider adding any other hardware unless the power supply were upgraded to one of much higher output and higher quality (Silverstone and PC Power & Cooling are tops on my list). The APU is able to be upgraded as high as an A10-7850K, which, is 4 CPU cores and 8 GPU cores with Radeon R7 graphics!
The only thing I could really say negatively towards this machine is the Windows 8.1 operating system. Of course it would be no problem for me to install Linux instead. It's probably alright for anyone who enjoys Windows 8.1 but personally, I hate this version of Windows more than any other previous version.
Also, I run Folding@Home 24/7 and haven't had any trouble at all with folding and doing other tasks simultaneously.

Just a quick update now that I've had it running for 6 months.
I'm no longer pleased with the product nor the manufacture or their "tech support". Actually had tech support hang up on me. At one point the machine underclocked as low as 2.8GHz, they had their nerve to tell me "it is NOT possible for the CPU speed to underclock".
Windows 8.1 is worthless trash and keeps dropping my wifi connection to 0 bps, it will sit showing a full connection but NO throughput for up to 10 minutes before it will start allowing connection to up or download info. Very infuriating to wait 10+ minutes for my email to show up.
For the total cost of this machine, I'm able to build my own custom rig with 8GB DDR3-1866, 1TB HDD, A6-6400K, Hyper 212 EVO cooler and 500w Seasonic 80+ Bronze active PFC power supply and still have $100 left in my pocket afterwards.
Better to not bother with these machines as they are a waste of money and break very quickly on their own. Do yourself the favour and just put the same amount of money into your own custom build.

Will this computer work to play Grand Theft Auto 5 for the pc?

Trying to find what options I have with either upgrading my computer that I have a Gateway with AMD Dual-Core E1-1500APU or buying a PlayStation 4 or to just get a gaming computer and also what would be a better bargain.
According to Can you run it, they say no due to lack of VRAM and system memory. GTA 5 requires 1GB of VRAM and 4GB of system memory, but the utility sees 3.3GB due to the 768MB that is dedicated for use as VRAM.

Theoretically, you probably could play it with all the settings at lowest possible. That however, would leave the game not looking as nice.

Adding in a PCIe graphics card would of course change that.

will it work with windows 8.1?

i need internet because my motherboard doesn't automatically have it, and i need to know if this product will work with windows 8.
Yes it will work fine in Windows 8.1
Just install driver from the included CD-ROM and when it asks if you wish to use the Asus utility choose no and use the Windows utility instead.
