Very Good microwave

Most people have no idea how to correctly use a microwave. They think the highest wattage and fastest cooking time is what is important and that causes all kinds of problems. Breville takes a completely different approach. The problem with other microwaves is you cook something and part of the dish is really hot and another part is cold. Or the food ends up kind of crunchy or rubbery. Or the microwave makes some stuff really well but other stuff comes out like goo. The consistency problem comes from people using them wrong. Americans want everything bigger and faster so manufacturers set most microwaves to turbo, cooking everything way too fast and using too much power so results are often iffy. This microwave automatically reduces the power and adds in pauses during cooking cycles (completely hidden from the user as the countdown is continuous and the interior remains lit) so the temperature of the dish has time to even out and the dish comes out much more uniformly. This works incredibly well and I've never had anything not come out perfectly or nearly perfectly. You can melt butter, melt chocolate, make popcorn, make microwave frozen meals, baked potatoes, warm leftovers, make hot beverages - all just using the preset settings.
The reviewer complaining that this microwave doesn't have a numeric pad to enter time is the perfect example of what not to do when using microwaves. Its the same kind of person who cooks stuff for 3 minutes no matter what the dish is and then removes it at 2:45 because of impatience and then complains the food is terrible. Minimal effort = minimal results.
So why didn't I give this 5 stars? Two big reasons - first - the build quality does feel kind of cheap. The display and dial are very nice, but the exterior is cheap feeling and you are paying a premium price so it should have a better build. The second reason is a matter of choice between convenience and affordability. This microwave costs substantially more than similar microwaves. Once you figure out that you need to a) lower the power b) cook things slightly longer and c) add pauses while cooking, almost any microwave can cook as well as this one. But, you have to be willing to adjust the settings yourself and, unfortunately, changing the power level on most microwaves isn't intuitive. There are combo buttons to press and you have to enter the commands in a certain order which varies based on make and model of the unit. And you have to know what power level to use and how long to pause for each dish. In contrast, this microwave makes everything super easy. You just turn two knobs to select what you are cooking and how much the item weighs (approximate is OK) and then just wait for perfect results.

Most of your comments are ridiculous
August 30, 2013
Almost no one would want digital cable and OTA recording at the same time. The only time you would need it would be when the cable company and the local stations are fighting and that is only every 2-3 years and it only lasts for a week or two. That's not worth the expense of another tuner/connection.
Why on earth would you want to connect a very expensive set top box to a TV using a junky composite cable? HDMI is the only way to get HD picture and digital sound. HDTVs with HDMI connections are really cheap these days so there is no excuse to keep using composite or other analog connections. If you cannot afford a TV with HDMI, there's not point of purchasing a TIVO. You can't fault TIVO for not supporting your junk TV from 30 years ago.
There isn't a need for gigabit Ethernet. If your router supports 1000 mbit, it also supports 10/100, so again, why would they bother incorporating a more expensive connection that won't need? You'll never need to transfer data that fast on a TIVO. This isn't a computer.
MoCA is only needed if you have more than one TIVO, which, I'm inferring you probably don't even own one. TIVO now has Wifi built in for getting guide data. MoCA is only useful if you are wirelessly transferring videos from one TIVO box to another. If you do decide you need it after you purchase the basic TIVO, you can get an adapter. Otherwise, think about your decision and get the higher end version.
The remote finder feature would be nice, but you need to remember this is the entry level TIVO. Does Apple TV or ROKU or any other set top box have it? Nope. The Roamio Plus and Pro do include this feature.
Your one star review is ridiculous. What you are saying is you want a higher end model at a cheaper price and that obviously can't happen. TIVO (the company) is still limping along and needs to make a profit on things other than patents in order to survive. As of 2013, they are still losing money when royalties are excluded from their income. No company can survive losing money.
The only alternatives to TIVO are satellite/cable box DVRs (generally atrocious), and Windows Media Center PCs, which if yours is like mine, it crashes constantly. Also, WMC is on death watch anyway as it is very likely Microsoft is going to drop the support of WMC soon because it doesn't generate a profit thus there's no reason to keep it around.
Best Buy should have a way that users can remove bogus reviews such as yours. It is clear you don't own this product nor do you know what you are talking about.
