This film is borderline idiotic. The story is childish, the choice of actors seems to be, for the most part, and effort to employ the unemployed and movie is about one hour and 40 minutes too long.
Then why two stars? The 4k disk quality, while not true 4k, is good.

An outstanding science fiction film with virtually no violence and an incredible ending. Amy Adams is terrific. Jeremy Renner is perfectly understated. If you go to the movies only for light entertainment, don't buy this film. If you enjoy movies that require your undivided attention, this is for you. Saw this beautifully directed and acted film in the theater and never wondered how much time is left. I won't say much more. The movie is loaded with hints as to how it will end. You'll miss many if not all of them. But once it ends you'll think back and realize why all the things you thought made no sense or thought were a mistake weren't either. An exceptional film that I'll buy and watch many times.

Polk products have, for years, been considered an excellent value. Their 3.1 soundbar is no exception. The only negative is the dopey remote. It's much too small and takes time to access changes in volume, base and center voice. That being said, the remote is manageable and should not be a reason to purchase another product. I've listened too many 3.1 sound bars and, if you find one better for the price of the Polk, buy it.
Marginally acted. 4k picture quality varies from one scene to another. Would rate at the bottom of the most recent Stars Trek films. Either don't buy or buy the normal Blu-ray version. Not worth the higher 4k price.

I've spent more than 25 years in consumer electronics marketing. I have sold audio and video products, owned three 4k TVs and unfortunately, in the case of the Samsung K8500, have already owned two 4k blu ray players.
I've been studying the UB 900 for a year. It's been in Europe for that long. Reviews have been the highest I've read for virtually any consumer electronics product; 10 out of 10 and 5 out of 5.
The UB 900 is first and, most importantly, the only currently available 4k player compatible with any make of 4k TV. The Samsung k8500 as admitted by Samsung Technical Service, a member of Best Buys Geek Squad and two Magnolia store employees and myself ,is not. The K8500 will modify your TVs picture settings so many can't be used.
Now back to the UB 900. It uses the VP9 up scaling system; by far the most advanced up scaling system to date. It's 4k picture is far superior to any 4k blu-ray player I have seen. It contains virtually every sound option available. You can modify your picture and sound via the player on any medium played through the UB900 i.e disks, Netflix, YouTube etc. The K8500 let's you modify the picture ,not sound, only on a disk.
The UB 900 is well built and throughly tested for more than a year before being introduced to the US market.
The UB 900 at its current $699.99 price is expensive but compared to other current and already reviewed upcoming models, it is far superior and well worth the price. And, if you want to be able to adjust a non Samsung TVs picture settings, all of them, the UB 900 is your only choice.
Don't make the mistake that I did and buy the Samsung K8500. If you do, as I did, and then are exposed to Panasonic's UB 900, you'll wish you had waited.
Really didn't care for film but was more annoyed for having paid more for the 4k version. Picture barely better than normal blu-ray disk. Although the disk doesn't state this; must have been remastered .

Great TV Poor K8500 interaction

The TV gives me everything I want from a 4k TV; excellent picture, HDR compatible, ease of use. This is my second 4k TV. Both TVS have had problems caused by the lack of complete compatibility with the Samsung K8500 4k blu-ray player. I would imagine that this could happen with any other than Samsung TV. I would recommend waiting to purchase a 4k blu-ray player for this TV until additional options are available. The 10 out of 10 rated Panasonic UB 900 is due out in September and the Phillips unit is due out in October. Both have been rated far superior to the K8500. Wait.

Replaced a Belkin router when I purchased a new 4k TV. The Bellkin couldn't maintain a steady signal to the TV. The NETGEAR router maintains an excellent signal and was well worth the purchase.
Good movie but you have to sit through a boring hour before it gets going. Second half is a totally different movie. Regarding the 4k version, save your money. The upscale picture from a normal Blu ray will be just as good.
Owned the HD version of Sicario but bought the 4k disk.
Thought a better picture for a film that I enjoyed would be worth the price.
It isn't. Being a film with little, if any CGI footage, makes for a film that is no better in 4k. Don't spend the additional money on the 4k disk. You will notice virtually no difference between it and the HD version.

Research before you buy
By25yearsinconsumerelectron
The pros-good, but not great 4k picture. Very easy to use.
Cons-average upscaling, actually my Panasonic upscaling blu ray player picture had far better picture. God awful remote, lots of Samsung apps but few worth downloading, cheap plastic construction, player's video settings only work on discs, can't modify picture settings on video streaming or on streaming 4k videos. Far superior products only a few months from initial sales.
I'm an early adopter who's a perfect target for products like the k8500. However; after almost 30 years at a Senior management position managing a major CE brand, I should have known better. I have only myself to blame for this purchase.
What you and I should have done-wait for other players. For instance, the Panasonic UB900. It isn't available yet but it's less than a few months away.
Why wait-the UB900 has already received better reviews and comparisons against the Samsung K8500. It not only is compatible with the 2.2 decoder needed to play true 4k discs. It also contains the V9 decoder which is a far superior method of upscaling blu ray discs. It also will run every current audio option available today.
My review should not be considered a "pitch" for the Panasonic UB900. It should be viewed as an educated suggestion to wait before you buy a true 4k blu ray player. There are many far better units only months away.

Poor panel display and on/off lighting. Poor 4k streaming picture. Cheap plastic construction. Can't modify picture from any source other than disc. App store lacking; especially in the music, sports and news categories. Average, at best, upscaling capabilities. Difficult to move apps from Samsung apps to My Apps. Pros-good picture and very easy to use. If I didn't suffer from the early adopter syndrome, I would have waited for the availability of other players. The Panasonic 4k player which has, as of this date, no on sale date, has gotten far better professional reviews and comparison versus the k8500. Based upon the cheap plastic construction of this unit; I purchased the four year extended warranty. I think I'll need it. I should have waited.

You wouldn't be giving the K8500 five stars if you owned an other than Samsung TV or compared it to the UB900.
Where are the player's video settings on any format other than a disk? Is it THX certified? Where are the multiple audios settings? Where the VP9 up scaling capabilities? Where is the necessary player display information. And, if you like me, want to modify your picture settings, how's that working out?
When will corporations release the 4K blu-ray disc players
When will Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, Oppo, Pioneer, LG, Denon, Marantz, and others release 4K blu-ray machines?
Panasonic introduced the UB 900 on September 2. Phillips has one due out in October and Sony is expected to launch theirs in the first quarter of 2017.
Does Best Buy sell any Blue Ray Player that is PAL & NTSC playable?
Just wondering if there is any player available at Best Buy (in-store or online) that can play both PAL and NTSC formats? Most of the specifications online really do not indicate this, unless it is assumed that since I am in the US, I would want only an NTSC player.

Will this work on my TV?
I have a UN55HU7250 Samsung 4K TV will the HDMI inputs on this TV allow me to view the native 2160p resolution? Or am I SOL and need to purchase a newer TV, I understand that HDR is not supported on this model.
If you don't have an HDMI 2.1 port, or the ability to update your HDMI port to 2.1, you won't get the better contrast benefits that HDR offers. However, if you have and HDMI 2.0 port and a 2.2 decoder integrated into that port, you will be able to play true 4k disks from the 8500 to your TV. If you're not sure that your TV has what's needed to play a 4k disk, check your owners manual or call the TVs customer service line.
