Sharp Pictures, Quality Document Output
on October 14, 2016

This is a review for the Epson ET-3600 EcoTank that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.
All in all, this product meets my needs. I've been testing this printer for over a week now. While there are downsides that you need to take into consideration, the upsides meet or exceed them. So without further ado, I'll review the negative aspects of the printer, the indifferent, and then the positive aspects.
Negatively, I wish there was a feeder for documents that I wanted to scan. Placing each page individually on the flatbed became cumbersome. I also did not like the fact that there was no separate photo tray. I typically print just as many photos as I print documents so having to always switch between the two became a task. Lastly, filling up the ink tanks could become a cleaner process. I did make sure I was prepared in the event I did spill some ink, which I did. It wasn't much but you do need to be careful.
I was indifferent with the size of the printer. Although it had a wider footprint than my existing printer because of the ink tanks, I still had room in the cabinet to place the printer. The smaller height of this allowed for me to not have to pull the printer out to do scans. The interface also needs more to be desired. It's definitely simple and not complex but some might find it to be too simple or just want a touch screen instead of using arrows keys to navigate the interface.
On the positive side, even though I mentioned it as a negative, I enjoy the fact that that I can refill each of the tanks. The waste and overhead costs of always having to buy cartridges is particularly cumbersome and costly over time. I wish you could tell ink levels from the app instead of visually. It remains to be seen if the "2 year" ink supplied with the printer will live up to that. I, however, can vouch for the fact regarding the speed and clarity of the printed output. Not only were the documents crisp, clean, and sharp, but the pictures printed on glassy photo better turned out better than my old printer. The pictures turned out very sharp and detailed. I was very impressed. Add to the fact, that the simplicity of printing from my iPad Pro or my iPhone was seamless and printing from each was quick.
Overall, although the price of the printer might detract some from purchasing this product, if you factor in the cost of print cartridges for a traditional ink jet printer, over time you'll pay more for a traditional ink jet printer. I would recommend purchasing this product based on that fact. I should have taken this into consideration with my previous printer and will in the future. Combine this with the fact that the quality of the prints are exceptional and the speed to print them are quick is why I recommend it. Epson is synonymous with building quality printers and delivering quality documents and prints.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Setup, Config - Easy; Signal, Throughput - Ok
on January 28, 2016

Disclaimer: I received this product for free as part of Belkin's Friends + Family Program.
I replaced my existing AC1900 router with this one and ran it through its paces over the course of a few weeks. What I describe in the following sections is my unbiased review of the router as it pertains to my environment at home.
Setup was relatively simple. Within a matter of 30 minutes or so, I had the router configured and connected to the internet. The quick start guide, the clearly, labeled ports on the back of the router, the included cables, and the user interface all made for a seamless setup. Even the firmware upgrade went quickly and smoothly. I was impressed with the ability to easily give static IPs to devices connected using the web interface. Other routers, I’ve had to manually enter in the MAC address to do this. This feature was definitely welcomed.
In the area of performance, this is where the router failed to meet my expectations. Out of the box, I expected this router to perform better than it did. I do want to preface this by saying that I placed this router in the exact same spot (in the middle of my house in a closed cabinet) as the router I replaced it with and used the default configuration.
Over the course of the few weeks I used the router, I did notice that the signal strength and throughput were significantly slower and weaker than the previous router I was using. I noticed some delays in bringing up content on my phone and tablet and others experienced similar issues in different parts of the house. I rely on a good, solid data connection because I work from home at times. I place calls through the computer and also do a lot of presenting. There were numerous times that the call quality was impacted. I also expected a strong signal in my backyard where I tend to sit and peruse the web at my leisure. I noticed speed and some latency issues here as well.
The one positive aspect is that the router remained stable during the full time I had with it. My previous router would requires occasional restarts. Over an extended period of time you can see how these occasional restarts can be bothersome.
Can my performance issues be improved? Of course they probably could, but that would mean having to place my router outside of the cabinet, adjust the antennas, find the best wireless channel, use apps, and other configuration changes to get the most optimal signal strength and throughput out of the router. As you can see, to the average consumer this can be a tedious and arduous tasks and is problem the main reason why routers are returned. It would be nice if this was just an automatic feature of the router that did this fine tuning for you.
In my circumstances, the router just didn’t meet my expectations for improved performance. An extra antenna, faster processor, performance antennas, and beamforming technology didn’t improve things for me the way I would have liked. It just might for you.
Other features included a mobile app which was nice to have the power to control the router right at your fingertips. It came in handy for me quickly setting up guest access and seeing other router details when I needed it. Another additional feature was that it was open source ready. This is a great feature to have, but if there isn’t any production open source package to apply to it, then it’s really not a feature I can utilize right now. Hopefully new open source firmware packages will be coming on the horizon so that the router can be customized and optimized more than you can out-of-the-box.
In conclusion, detailed information on the packaging of the product would have convinced me to purchase the router. The router was easy to set up, configure, and connect to the Internet. I saw issues with signal strength and data throughput given the location where I installed my router. This varies greatly given different environments and can be made better with an optimal location in the house with few obstructions and fine tuning configuration parameters in the router administration console. Overall stability was good and no reboots were needed throughout the review period. If you have an open, unobstructed area in the middle of your house, then I would recommend this product. Give it consideration otherwise if you think this router will be behind cabinet doors. With the right amount of fine tuning, I think most will be impressed with its feature set.
I would recommend this to a friend!
