Noisy, turns items into solid ice, costs double

The freezer arrive dented in back. I straightened it all out in an hour or so.
It makes weird noises. Since it is only about 15 feet away from our main TV area, this is an issue.
It is manual defrost. I knew that. I realized I was going to have to defrost it occasionally. However,....
Items such as a tupperware container of ice cubes turn into a solid brick of ice after a few days.
Ice cream containers, even when double bagged in freezer bags, acquire an armor of ice on the top surface of the ice cream after a week or so.
Bags of frozen veggies turn into a solid ball of ice after a week or so.
I want to trade in this freezer for an auto defrost freezer.
One other item that bugs me is that now Best Buy carries this same freezer for half the price with an Insignia label on it. Apparently Best Buy is having Danby build this freezer for them with a Best Buy label and charging waaaaayyyyyy less for it.
"I would recommend this to a friend" No only no but he*l no.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

On the 8.5 Danny freezer upright - how often to defrost? Do you need to put the food in another freezer to defrost this one ?

It needed to be defrosted after a month or so. We will defrost ours every quarter or so. You do something with your frozen food while you defrost this freezer.

Can it be kept in a hot garage?

How does it work in an Arizona summer? How does the unit work in room temperatures above 80 (house) or 90 degrees (garage) F?
It will work okay outside, but if it is 110 degrees and sitting in the sun, it might not keep things frozen.

Freezer in garage

May this freezer be kept in the garage? I've heard that newer refrigerators can not be kept in the garage due to a thermostat that turns the frig off if it falls below a certain temperature.
Thanks, Betty
Yes, it can be kept in a garage.
