Could be great... or awful depending on LG service

Easy and intuitive controls and seemed to function very well for the first few weeks of ownership. I like the steam option. After a few weeks the machine began to make a squealing noise whenever I used it, like a belt or some other moving part was not in alignment. I've owned several pairs of washers / dryers and have only needed repairs or replacement of the dryers; usually it's needing to periodically replace the felt gasket around the drum or some other rotation related part that wears out or begins to corrode. So a squealing noise strikes me as the harbinger of premature misery and death for this machine. I tried to submit a request on line to LG for service but was unable as the website gave me a "invalid model number" error message when I tried to submit their form. This despite the model number being correctly selected from the drop down menu on the form. I then called their service number which is an off shore call center. The first time I called I spoke with an articulate and efficient rep who moved through the obligatory script fairly quickly and scheduled an appointment time and date with a local service while I waited on the line. I received an email confirmation of appointment within a few hours. On the day of appointment, however, no one showed up, so I called the repair service office. The person answering told me she had no record of the appointment and then went on to say that their computers went down and they lost all their information. I rescheduled for a couple of days later. Since this did not inspire a lot of confidence in the repair service provider, I called LG back to see if there was an alternative. This time I spoke with someone who had trouble understanding anything I was saying. Despite speaking as clearly as I could and spelling each word and number out slowly and distinctly, almost every bit of information had to be repeated 3-5 times. I asked if she could identify a different service provider than the one that had no-showed but she either did not understand or did not have the option to do so. She also stated there was no record of my original scheduled appointment, despite my having received the confirmation. The call itself took close to an hour and I have nothing to show for it. Had I known this was how LG handled service, I would have opted for Best Buy's extended service plan so I could deal with someone local. As it is, I will arrange for another day off work to wait for the service guy/gal and hope that this time they show up and can fix the problem. I chose the LG brand in part based on their having such a large share of the market, I thought getting service would be straightforward. Wrong.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
