Expand your network and add network devices with this Linksys five-port gigabit switch, letting you transfer 10 times faster than Fast Ethernet. Five ports offer 5X Ethernet so you can plug and play without missing a beat. Power is reduced to unused ports on this Linksys five-port gigabit switch, saving you money by reducing energy costs.

ES3005: A great way to expand your network
on April 10, 2016

Fantastic device! I received a sample unit of the SE3005 from Linksys at their cost in order to test and write a report on my experience using the Hub. I tried several configurations in order to see how the SE3005 performed and found outstanding results in each scenario.
The device is used to extend your Ethernet network effortlessly without any perceptible transmission delay. It works right out of box (it took me 2 minutes to unbox, connect to the network and have it running - Plug and Play at its best) without any setup. You just plug it in and connect one end of an Ethernet cable to any of its 5 Gigabit ports and the other end to your router, network extender, or other hub. You're now ready to connect up to 4 more Ethernet devices onto your network without any parameter setups.
The first trial, I connected the SE3005 directly to my E4200 Linksys router and connected 2 computers and a printer to the Hub. First I ran speedtest.net on the SE3005- connected HP laptop computer to establish a benchmark for throughput speeds. Then, I ran a program on the connected HP desktop to loop continuously while accessing a large file on a networked NAS connect to the router. Finally, I used a third computer connected directly to the E4200 to send a very large print job to the SE3005 connected printer while simultaneously using the HP Laptop computer to re-run Speedtest.net and determine impact on its internet and local network transmission speeds. I was pleased to see that there was no perceptible difference in speed between the two tests. Following are the results of this trial (note that I ran the test on a rated 60Mbps download, 6Mbps upload internet connection):
Speedtest w/o Printjob....................................... Speedtest with Printjob
23 ms ping ....................................................................25 ms ping
57 Mbps Download .....................................................57 Mbps Download
6 Mbps Upload ...............................................................6 Mbps Upload
My conclusion is that I can use the ES3005 as HUB on my network without any perceptible slowdown in network traffic to connected devices.
The second trial, I had an older 5-port 10/100 hub connected to the Ethernet connection on a WIFI network extender. I replaced the 10/100 with the SE3005 Gigabyte hub.
Two computers and a printer were connected by Ethernet to the hub, and the router, two cellphones and a printer used the WIFI connection on the extender. I used the HUB connect computers to access the network NAS and I observed a dramatic improvement in speed compared to the 10/100 hub. Similarly, the observed speed of webpage access was significant and downloads of large files from both the local network and internet were nicely improved.
The third trial, I connected the SE3005 to the ES4200 as in the first trial above. This time I tried streaming very large videos from the network NAS on one computer and also from the internet on the other computer and to my surprise, they both played flawlessly with no hesitation or pixelization.
I'm sold on the SE3005 and am recommending it as a great way to expand your network.
