OK I have an old 3g Iphone on Verizon that I wanted to give to my wife to replace her old flip phone on Tracfone. I read the reviews on the mini kit for bring your own phone.
To me tracfone did not make it clear as to whether I could do this. I finally found some references in the reviews where someone had activated a 3g iphone. I pulled the trigger on the $1 kit. It was actually $1.48 They had to collect the 911 fee.
I did not need any of the sim cards in the package. I did need the CDMA Network Access Code. I read the red START HERE paper and followed the instruction to go to TracFoneBYOP an register the phone. I entered the MEID number and the Network Access Code. All went well and I got a confirmation the phone was registered.
I then proceeded to Activate your service instructions. I already have a TracFone account so did not need airtime card. I again entered the MEID number and the phone number of the account but thats where it stopped. Said activation failed call customer support.
I called support and the person checked that the phone was registered and only needed activated and that he would be glad to help me with that. H e sent me a text message to my then current phone to verify identity and then proceeded. The only thing he did different was he used the IMEI instead of the MEID number.
After he did his thing, I called *22890 and after about 20 seconds I got a recording saying congratulations my phone was activated.
The rep then had me make a call and also pull a web page to verify that I had data. All went well. He checked and talk, text and data carried over and all is good.
Some have said that theirs worked for a couple of days and then stopped. If this happens I will post but all are now working. Good luck with yours. Thanks Roger
I would recommend this to a friend!
