So far so good

Just purchased the Skulpt Chisel. I have had multiple dexascans, with the most recent one approximately 3 weeks ago. My last dexa came in at 10.9%. My first Chisel recording came in at 6%, which I knew was pure fantasy and caused me immediate concern. I then went back and did 5 more fully body measurements. The range in results was from 10.9% to 11.6%. The device also averages your results provided they are in close proximity. I doubt my body composition has changed much in the 3 weeks since the last dexa, so the Chisel looks to be pretty accurate compared to the dexa, which many refer to as the gold standard. The individual muscle readings were also fairly in line with the dexa results. The devise is easy to use. It is a little annoying having to repeatedly spray the electrodes, but certainly not a deal breaker. To get a basic body fat measurement requires that you take 3 measurements - the bicep, the abs, and the quad. Bicep and abs are fairly unobtrusive, but the quad requires you to either pull down your pants or, at a minimum, loosen them. Not a big deal unless you and some friends are trying to settle a bet on who has lower body fat and are in a public place where you are uncomfortable sticking your hands down your pants. In terms of full body measurements, that takes about 5 minutes and you will get a little wet, but nothing major. Device paired easily with the iPhone and the interface on the iPhone is easy to understand. Not a lot of bells and whistles. You get both a Muscle Quality readout and a BF % readout (illustration attached). Not really sure about the MQ readout as I have no basis for comparison, but I do not believe my muscles are as quality as the numbers indicate so I would take those with a grain of salt. The app offers some workout and diet guidelines based upon your measurements and goals but they are rudimentary and of little value, at least right now. Can't speak to longevity issues, but the quality of build seems solid. If you 1) are into fitness tracking and 2) have $99 plus tax lying around, this is a useful device.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Have been using the Chisel for a few months now. Device can be a bit glitchy at times in terms of getting a reading, but software updates appear to be making things better. Device is fairly consistent alhtough at times there can be a variuance of about 1% (in absolute numbers). Just went in for another dexa scan. Happy to say that the Chisel is remarkably close to the dexa scan results, both overall and on a body part basis.
