Purchased 5 of these plugs to control my various Christmas lights. I have an Android phone (Note 5). The Android app is very flaky and crashes constantly when trying to do initial setup. After numerous attempts with multiple plugs, I was never successful doing initial setup with the Android app. I switched to my daughter's Apple iPhone 6s to see if it would be any better at getting the initial setup completed. Once I switched to the Apple app, the initial setup went OK for 4 of the 5 plugs. One of the plugs will not configure. I spent multiple hours trying to get the plugs to work because of the Android app and the one plug that would never configure. After the initial configuration, I am able to use the android app on my phone for control and scheduling setup. I primarily wanted these plugs to do scheduled ON and OFF times. I have configured the schedules and am waiting a few days to see if they work reliably. As others have stated, these plugs DO NOT work with any home automation and control devices (e.g. Amazon Echo or Dot, Google Home, IFTTT, etc). The only control you can do to the plugs is with the Best Buy's Insignia application. Also, you HAVE TO create an account with Best Buy to use the app and devices. If you have an iPhone and only want to do simple ON and OFF control of something (with the Best Buy Insignia app) or scheduled On and OFF times, then these are the devices for you.
Pros: Seemingly solid physical design. LED indicator can be disabled. Easy configuration (with Apple iPhone app). Easy Scheduling setup. Price ($20)
Cons: Response times to manual ON and OFF control can be slow (laggy). One plug (out of 5) appears to be DOA (dead on arrival). Forced to create a Best Buy's account to use app. Android app flaky and unsuccessful at initial configuration. No way to manually add a plug to app if auto-detect wizard fails.
