Great TV / Better than Lower Tier 4K Sets
on December 28, 2016
Posted by: Gilbert
4K might be the standard one day, but it won't happen till some time. A lot of Manufactures are phasing out 1080's, but there will be a use for them for years to come. No worries, this tv won't become obsolete. The transition will take time. A lot is being said right now like Broadcasting never converting to 4K because it would be so expensive and the logistics being a nightmare. Depending what you want to believe, it's a world of possibilities.
*Sound: Decent, play with the settings until you find something that suits you best. The Default Sound Settings are too low. This isn't a Hisense or JVC entry-level HDTV. You don't need to go out and buy a sound bar.
*Apps: Netflix is decent. Some people say they get disconnected from Netflix. It hasn't happened to me (yet). The Youtube app isn't very good. It's slow and it doesn't connect at the same speeds like the ps4 or roku youtube apps. Vudu works flawless and offers many "Free" movies. Not all the apps are the same. Some are better than others. You could always get roku if it's that much of an issue.
I purchased a 4K tv and the picture quality was bad when not streaming. This TV is good all-around. It does everything well and the picture is just stunning.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Watch movies with extra enjoyment on this Hisense 4K TV with HDR. Its 55-inch screen draws you in, and its self-lighting screen pixels are individually controlled to optimize color contrast. This internet-enabled Hisense 4K TV lets you binge your favorite television shows, and the Energy Star rating helps you keep utility bills in check.

Excellent 4K and HD Streaming Quality Pic
on December 25, 2016
Posted by: Gilbert
The Good
*Mostly, everything, streamed in HD looked great. Netflix 4K and regular HD looked awesome. The Youtube videos streaming in 4K were excellent regardless of color settings.
*TV is very responsive. I read that the apps were sluggish, but, I found it to be the opposite. The Apps played smoothly and there was hardly a delay between switching apps. Netflix worked a little faster than youtube for me. I really like how Netflix worked on this TV overall.
The Bad
*Cable TV and Over The Air Antenna Television looked bad, pretty bad (Regardless if the channels were HD or not). I don't know if this was the up conversion or not, but they looked bad, I turned off all the features like Noise reduction, Clear Motion and played with the color settings, nothing seemed to work for me. The colors looked faded, washed out when viewing them over the air or HDMI Cable Box.
Conclusion:
If you're going to use this TV mostly for streaming, I think it's a really good set. If you're going to use it for HD Cable, Satellite or over the air, I don't think it will work very good. I been reading online and this seems to be an issue with a lot 4K TVs. A lot of them don't show 1080 content very good. Most TV stations aren't going to up their game to 4K anytime soon. It's being said that a lot of them won't convert to 4K at all and will wait till the next UHD resolution which could be 8K, 10K or whatever else it might be called. I'm going to leave it up to you. Make your research and ask around about Network channels played over the air or cable/satellite. I called Bright House Spectrum to help me out, but I got no answer from them,
Internet Speed: Bright House 30 Mbps
Cable TV: Bright House
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good but far from Perfect
By Viper32
For the price this is a decent choice on the outside. The big issue this TV has is viewing angles. If you sit to the side at all of this TV like 10 degrees or more the picture washes out something terribly. Colors are good but skin tones are not the best even after calibration.
It is advertised as having Fald and the best I can tell it has like 10 zones and the internal controls for them are lacking. You will get some judder with this TV but nothing near as bad as the lower end Samsung 4K units, this occurs much more with sattelite, OTA feeds. If you are like me and you are bothered by Motion/Judder issues then you better stay away from this TV. Also the ARC implementation has issues with Sony and LG Sound bars.
I really wanted to like this TV but at the end of the day I even struggled to give it a 3 for a rating. The price is great but the poor viewing angle and other issues kills it for me.
I bought both the 50" and 55" so this review applies to both. I will be returning them both as they are not to my standards.

Same Issues with OTA and Cable TV
December 25, 2016
Matt, I had the same issues with over the air and cable tv. The 1080 content looked bad. I try playing with the settings, but I soon realized it was an issue that I wasn't going to be able to fix. Football games looked soft, washed out colors and overall it just didn't look good. That said, Netflix, MLB TV, WWE Network, Drama Fever and content from other streaming apps looked awesome/spectacular. My issue was with OTA and Cable channels. I turned off all the features like Contrast Control, Noise Reduction and so on and it made no difference. I hate returning the tv, but I do watch a lot ota and cable.

Great TV for the price
By Nobody
The refresh rate is what makes the model awesome. Blu-ray comes to life like I have never seen. Sports are like being at field level. I can't imagine 4K being better than this. I have seen floor models, but it's not like having it at home, so I can't tell if 4K is better. Love this picture!!

Apologies, I accidentally thumb down your comment. I found it helpful, not the other way around. 4K tv's are so picky. U need to sit very close to them to get the 4K benefit. If you sit 10-14 feet away from the TV, you need to get like 70-80 inch TV to get the 4K benefit. If you sit 10-14 feet away with a 60 inch, you will lose that benefit and only see 1080 quality. 4K's are so picky with different sources, it's a mess. 4K is great for streaming right now. Other than that they could be a headache. Sport Games don't look very good on 4K.

Great 4k HDR TV with a great price tag
By Gadget
Picture without a cable box and only a cable wire directly connected was fantastic. No comparison to the old flat panels. If you don't believe me look at the demo on the floor at best buy. This compares to a SONY high dollar 4k HDR hands down. Great job Hisense you have a new buyer.

The Demo is very misleading. When I first turned on my Hisense and registered my TV, it took me to the Demo. The Demo looked so great, I quickly became excited. When I started setting up my TV, I quickly noticed the upscale of 480, 720 and even 1080 wasn't very good. For a whole day, I try playing with the settings, but, I never got them to work with over the air nor cable. I end up returning my this tv and got a Sony. Much better tv (at least for me). I'm not going to lie. The Hisense looks great playing 4K content. The Demo looks awesome, as you say. My issue was with the upscale of non 4K content. I don't think your comment about watching the demo is very helpful, since it will look good everywhere. The Demo is a recorded video stored into the tv and it was made to the tv's standards. I like it how it was in the old days where all TV's were hooked up to the same video source.

Best Deal

Actual 120 refresh rate and deep rich color. Sony quality for $699
All my friends have fake 120 refresh and fake 4K
If you understand everything I just wrote, then this is the gaming TV for you. Wait another year or so before you start shopping for a 4K for the new game systems.(wink)

It's pointless getting a 4K TV until Networks start broadcasting in 4K, Lower tier 4K TV's have upscale issues. As of right now, it's only some of the Higher end models that have decent upscale. Vizio E Series TV's all have horrible upscale. Hisense TV's might come with a 20 year warranty (sarcasm), but are all horrible at upscale from non streaming devices. Even the lower end LG and Samsung 4K sets have the same issue. If all you're going to do is stream, a lower end 4K set is fine. If you're going to watch anything in broadcast whether it's Over the air or cable, you will have issues with 4K tv's unless you have one of the good ones. It's said that Networks won't broadcast in 4K because of logistics issues. Others are predicting couple years away. If either is correct, they better fix the upscale on the lower end 4K sets. Whatever way you see it, it's pointless getting a 4K TV right now (for most people).

Can anyone who has purchased this TV comment on the quality of the screen image when watching from an angle? I would assume there would be some loss of contrast/color, but is it very noticeable?

If you're watching a scene with high brightness, 10 feet, dead center, it looks the sharpest. If you go five feet straight right, the clarity will diminish as you move from the center. Yes, it's noticeable. In high contrast dark scenes, it will just look dull. Dead Center is the sweet spot for this tv.
