I was looking for a 2-in-1 laptop that I could use for everything. I'm an engineering student who needs something portable, long-lasting, fast, and easy to write on with a stylus (for taking notes). This laptop not only has a beautiful design, but also can do whatever I need it to. The (included!) stylus input is superb and beginning next semester, I will be taking notes exclusively with this laptop. (I would begin immediately, but I'm already halfway through the spring semester with paper notebooks.) The battery life gets me through a full day or more of fairly constant web browsing, typing, and video playback. The display is beautiful, but be warned; a 4k screen will make you look at all other lower-quality displays as inferior. The aluminum build is thin, light, and every synonym you can think of for gorgeous. I would say it surpasses the Macbook line of laptops. The 360 hinge is well-designed and I haven't had any issues with it. The included leather sleeve is perfect to place under the keyboard when in tablet mode -- any dirt on a surface will quickly scratch up the keys and body.
Now to the downsides. While I praise this laptop for being thin, I miss my HDMI port and SD card slot. This issue has been remedied with about $30 of adapters, but I would be remiss without mentioning it. The aluminum scratches easily (no duh, it's aluminum) which just means you'll have to be a little more careful with it. There aren't many skins or wraps out yet for this device because it hasn't gained the necessary popularity yet, but hopefully companies will support it before I scuff mine for the first time. The trackpad is wide which will take getting used to. I'm not sure what HP's thinking was on this as it really is annoying wide. A graphics card would have been a nice addition, but so far I have been making do. I don't game too much, so that shouldn't be an issue, but I will update this once I've tried out Skyrim. CAD programs like Solidworks or AutoCAD should run OK so long as you're not designing anything crazy. The price is high, but you definitely get what you pay for. This laptop should last me quite a while, so I feel it was a wise investment.
Overall, I am pleased with this laptop. I think HP has stepped up their premium computer game and if this is a show of what is to come I can only see good things from them in the next few years. If you get a chance to see this laptop in person when making the critical decision, do so. It made my decision between this and the Surface Book much easier and I ended up buying this that same day. (Yes, it is that good-looking.)
I would recommend this to a friend!
