Solid Metal Build and Good GUI Configuration
on April 26, 2017
Posted by: Nylon
I bought this at another online retailer but thought I'd give my 2 cents anyway. I had multiple devices in my entertainment centre some of which connected wirelessly. This included:
1. Sony Android TV
2. PS4
3. XBOX One S
4. DROBO 5N
5. Apple TV 4
6. Sonos Playbar/Sub/2 x Play One's (5.1 setup)
7. 4k DVR/Cable Box (receives signal via ethernet)
8. Router
Even though I have gigabit fibre optic internet in my home I noticed that some of the devices such as the Apple TV/Android TV and game consoles didn't perform at their best. They weren't getting the best speeds via a wireless connection.
My router didn't have enough ethernet ports to wire everything so I decided to buy this switch. It has dramatically sped up all devices, simplified my setup and freed up the wireless spectrum in the home.
The switch itself is a solid piece of metal with some heft to it. It feels like a high quality product. The configuration GUI for the switch is also excellent and simple to use and setup. Each port on the switch can connect at a maximum of 1 Gigabit and each port operates independently meaning even if you connect a device that maxes out at a 100 Megabits it will not slow down other Gigabit enabled devices to the slower speed. All in all the device is worth the premium over the standard 8 port switch.
P.S. Make sure to update the firmware when you first set it up and use quality CAT 6 ethernet cables.
My Best Buy number: 4308540237

OLED technology and 4K resolutions combine in this 55-inch Sony Bravia TV. It produces deeper contrasts than ever before thanks to its OLED technology, and you get exquisite detail and impressive responses that look seriously realistic. Added to that is smart technology that lets you access online content, which makes this Sony Bravia TV a media powerhouse.

Unbelievable!

I picked up my 55" on Easter Monday 2017 and have been testing it all week. To be honest, I've never seen anything like it!
Let's start with the design even though it's subjective. The A1E has very minimalistic design. It seems Sony looked to a Bauhaus design credo when designing the set i.e. "form follows function". Sony obviously wants you to focus on the picture and the picture only. That's why there is virtually no bezel. In fact there is virtually no bulk to the TV. The TV disappears behind the screen. The stand is very well designed, heavy and solidly built. You will never feel like the TV is going to tip over. The connections are thoughtfully designed and cable management is fantastic with clips that keep cables together just below where they connect to the TV on the rear stand. The angle on the screen is so minimal that I barely noticed.
As far as picture quality is concerned, it's the best I've seen since the days of the Pioneer Kuro plasma's. This TV has picture quality that rivals and in some cases surpasses those Plasma's. The motion processing of the TV and it's 4k upscale capability far surpasses any LG OLED I have ever scene. HD sources are beautifully upscaled but I would say that one definitely needs to calibrate the TV in order to get the best out of it. I also have a 4K PVR at home and Broadcast 4K looks phenomenal, especially sports. Netflix 4k UHD and Amazon Prime 4k UHD also look amazing. I tested "The Grand Tour" on Amazon Prime, the episode where they are in dune buggies in Namibia and it felt like I was there. I also tested out an Alien Bluray 4k transfer which is probably one of the best contrast torture tests you can give a TV. All I can say is it was phenomenal.
As far as sound is concerned the TV has fantastic sound out of the box. While I use a Sonos Playbar setup, I did still test the sound out the speakers of the TV initially. I was shocked. The soundstage from the acoustic surface speakers is surprisingly large. Secondly it actually feels like noise is coming out of the characters mouths on this TV instead of from a speaker below.
So all in all I would say that Sony has hit it out of the park for their first OLED. I am ecstatic. This is my first jump into 4K and into OLED and I won't be looking back. No regrets at spending the money.

The base of the TV's rear stand is heavily weighted so theres no chance of it moving. And I'm not in earthquake land.

Re: Motionflow
April 26, 2017
The Sony OLED has multiple configurations for motion. This includes presets under Motionflow as well as Cinemotion. There is also a custom setting. Prior XBR's produced a soap opera effect on enabling even a little Motion processing, The biggest improvement on the Sony OLED is how well it handles motion. Now if you turn the setting all the way up on the custom setting you will still get.a soap opera effect. It is best to experiment to see what works for you. I have it on the custom preset with a setting of 2 or 3 (out of 5)
